Keep children, animals and bystanders away from
the work area.
Never use this equipment if you are ill, feeling
tired, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This equipment should only be used by a
competent person who has read and understood
these instructions.
Check the equipment before use, if it shows signs
of damage or excessive wear, return it.
Safety goggles should be worn by everyone
in the work area.
NOTE: Some materials contain substances
which, when mixed, can be harmful to
health. A suitable mask must be worn when using
this equipment.
NOTE: This equipment generates potentially
harmful noise levels. To comply with Health &
Safety At Work regulations, ear defenders must be
worn by everyone in the vicinity.
Wear practical protective clothing, footwear
and gloves must be worn. Avoid loose garments
and jewellery that could catch in moving parts. Tie
back long hair.
Ensure that manufacturers’ processing instructions
for the material to be mixed are strictly adhered to.
Ensure work area is tidy, well lit and ventilated.
Most HSS equipment is designed to plug straight
into a standard 240V 13A power socket. However,
110V models (with a round yellow plug) must be
provided with a suitable 110V generated supply, or
powered from the mains via a suitable 110V transformer.
Keep flexes and extension leads out of harm’s way.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and
loosely coiled away from the equipment. Never run
them through water, over sharp edges, or where they
could trip someone.
Remember, using electrical equipment in very
damp or wet conditions can be dangerous.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Flash Point
Do not mix materials with a flash point below 21ºC.
GENERAL SAFETY To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a
suitable RCD (Residual Current Operated Device)
available from your local HSS Hire Shop, or power 240V
(not 110V) equipment from a mains circuit with a built in
RCD.
If the tool fails, or if its flex or plug gets damaged,
return it. Never try to repair it yourself.
Never carry or pull the tool by its flex.
Ensure the tool and the power socket are switched
OFF before plugging into the power supply.
Always switch OFF and unplug electrical
equipment before attempting to maintain or
adjust it in any way. Never leave electrical tools
unattended while they are plugged in and
switched ON.
Ensure the side handle is securely fitted. Do not
operate this machine without the side handle.
Attach the mixer paddle and adaptor by screwing
onto the drive spindle. Hold the drive spindle with a
spanner and tighten the paddle.
To start, switch on the power supply and then squeeze
the ON/OFF trigger and keep pressed.
To stop, release the ON/OFF trigger.
To lock on the trigger, press the ON/OFF trigger and
push the locking button upwards. To release the ‘lock on’
press the ON/OFF switch again and release.
The unit is fitted with a high and low gear selection
combined with a variable speed controlled via the
trigger. This ensures the most suitable speed for the work
to be performed.
BASIC TECHNIQUES
GETTING STARTED
Speed 1: Low RPM, high power –
for mixer paddles up to 200mm diameter.
Speed 2: High RPM, low power –
for mixer paddles up to 140mm diameter.
To reduce the risk of splash, locate the paddle into the
bottom of the bucket and squeeze the trigger lightly to
ensure a gentle start to the mixing.
The selection of the mixer paddle depends on the
material to be stirred. This machine can operate paddles
up to 200mm diameter.
Before mixing ensure the surrounding surfaces are
protected from splashing.
Never push the tool beyond its design limits. If it
will not do what you want with reasonable ease, assume
you have the wrong tool for the job. Ask at your local
HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Never let the motor over-heat. Stop work at frequent
intervals and run the tool for a minute or so, just holding
it in your hands. The air drawn in and round it will cool
everything down and prevent damage.
Regularly check that the air vents in the drill body
are clear. If these become blocked, return it to your local
HSS Hire Shop.
Keep the equipment clean. Even if you are taking only
a short break, clean it as thoroughly as if you were
returning it at the end of the hire period.
The mixer paddle should be cleaned between mixes to
prevent contamination.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Clean the equipment thoroughly, paying particular
attention to the mixer paddle.
The paddle should be cleaned with either water or the
appropriate solvent.
The drill body should be wiped over with a clean,
dry cloth.
Neatly coil cable ready for return to your local
HSS Hire Shop.

Speed Selector
Adjust the speed selector only when the machine is
in the idle position or at a standstill.
Siting an RCD
When used with a transformer an RCD will only
protect the user if fitted between the transformer and
the tool being used.
An RCD fitted between the power supply and the
transformer only protects up to the transformer.
