Cordless
Riveter
Hire Shops
A powerful cordless riveter suitable
for steel, stainless steel and
aluminium blind rivets up to 5mm
diameter.
Operating & Safety Guide 977
Connect a charged battery to the riveter, simply
push into the rear of the handle until it clicks into
position.
Hold the units body with both hands, taking care
not to block any of the air vents in the process.
Adopt a stable stance that gives a good view of
the work.
Do not work in areas where you are forced to
stand on loose debris or on a slippery uneven
surface.
There are two ways in which the unit can be used.
You can place the rivet head into the pre-drilled
hole on the work then slide the riveter over the
rivet.
Alternatively, you can insert the rivet mandrel into
the riveter then offer the rivet to the work. If this
system is used take care not to operate the unit
unless the rivet is in the work.
NEVER point a loaded riveter at anything or
anybody.
Either way, keep the riveter square to the work
and apply just enough pressure to hold the rivet
against the work piece.
Never push the equipment beyond its design
limits. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease and speed, assume you have the wrong type of
riveter for the job. Contact your local HSS Hire Shop for
advice.
Keep the equipment clean - you will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Having finished with the unit, release the trigger
and remove the battery.
Unscrew the spent mandrel container, empty the
contents then re-fit it to the riveter.
Then give the unit a final clean up ready for
return, to your local HSS Hire Shop.

contact your local HSS Hire Shop.
There is a serious risk of personal injury if you do
not follow all instructions laid down in this guide.
The hirer has a responsibility to ensure that all
necessary risk assessments have been completed
prior to the use of this equipment.
This equipment should only be used by an operator
who has been deemed competent to do so by
his/her employer.
This equipment should be used by an able bodied,
competent adult who has read and understood these
instructions. Anyone with either a temporary or permanent
disability, should seek expert advice before using it.
Keep children, animals and bystanders away from
the work area. Cordon off a NO GO area using
cones and either barriers or tape, available for hire
from your local HSS Hire Shop.
Never use this equipment if you are ill,
feeling tired, or under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
Safety goggles MUST be worn by everyone in
the work area.
This equipment generates potentially harmful
noise levels. To comply with health and safety at
work regulations, ear defenders must be worn by
everyone in the vicinity.
Wear practical, protective clothing, gloves
and footwear. Avoid loose garments and
jewellery that could catch in moving parts, tie back
long hair.
Ensure the work area is well lit and ventilated, if in
doubt, ask about lighting and ventilation equipment at
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Do not work near flammable gases or liquids, petrol
or paint thinner fumes for example. Keep combustible
materials at a safe distance - at least 5m.
Check the condition of the equipment before use.
If it shows signs of damage or excessive wear, return it to
your local HSS Hire Shop.
The HSS Cordless Riveter is powered by a 12V Ni-
Cad battery, which can be effected by premature
charging. Only recharge the battery when fully
discharged.
The red LED lamp on the side of the handle will
illuminate when charging is required.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
GENERAL SAFETY The battery charger is
designed to plug
straight into a standard
240V 13A power socket,
however, power must
not be supplied from a
generator.
To remove the battery
from the Riveter, press
the lock tabs in with
finger and thumb and
pull the battery clear.
To recharge, insert the
battery pack into the
charger, it will only go in one way. Then plug the
charger into a suitable power supply and switch
the power ON, recharging is fully automatic.
The red indicator lamp will blink approximately
every 20 seconds once charging is complete.
The charger will recharge the battery in
approximately 1 hour.
Using the charger in very damp or wet conditions
can be dangerous.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a suitable
RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device) available from
your local HSS Hire Shop, or power the charger
from a mains circuit with a built-in RCD.
If the riveter fails, or if the chargers’power supply
cable or plug gets damaged, return it. Never try to
repair it yourself.
If an extension lead is used for the charger it
should be fully unwound and loosely coiled, away
from the equipment. Never run leads through
water, over sharp edges or where they could trip
someone.
Never carry or pull the charger by its power supply
cable.
The HSS cordless riveter is fitted with a rotating
nosepiece that can accommodate rivet diameters
of 3.2mm to 5mm.
To set the nosepiece for the size of rivet you are
using, firstly press and hold the trigger.
Push the nose collar towards the tool body and
turn the retainer to the size required, this is clearly
marked on the body of the retainer. Once the retainer
is in the correct position, release the nose collar.
There is a ‘spent mandrel’container fitted to the
rear of the unit. This is used to collect the spent
mandrels and helps to keep the workplace tidy.
GETTING STARTED
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES may the riveter be
used with the container removed. Spent mandrels
are occasionally projected at speed from the rear
of the unit and may cause the operator severe
injury.
To empty the container, turn the container anti-
clockwise and remove. Empty the contents and
replace the container turning it clockwise, ensuring it is
secure.
To start the riveter, simply squeeze and hold the
trigger until the rivets’mandrel breaks from the
rivet body.
Once riveting is completed, release the trigger and
the griping jaws inside the unit will return ready
for the next rivet.
Tilt the unit back to allow the spent mandrel to
slide to the rear of the unit and deposit itself into the
spent mandrel container.
