Adjust the Lens
1. Before the operation, ensure that the camera is powered off. Loosen the screws on the lens base,
and push the lens and the base towards the viewing window carefully and slowly until the gap
between the front end of the lens and the inner side of the viewing window is around 2 mm (without
occludingthe lens). Then tighten the screws on the base.
Note:
To use P-Iris for a super low-light checkpoint camera, select a Huawei certified P-Iris lens. Connect to the IRIS port when installing an auto iris lens.

2. Adjust the camera's aperture for optimal
image brightness. Loosen the screw on the
aperture ring and adjust the aperture to
F1.8 to F2.2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to
tighten the screw on the side of the lens.

Checkpoint cameras are mainly installed in urban roads, highways, and other places far away
from intersections. Before site survey and installation, ensure that the installation environment
meets the following requirements:
Illumination: at least 50 lux (can be measured by an illuminometer).
The outdoor illuminationmay be too high under direct sunlight.Therefore, try to avoid direct sunlight.
The illumination on urban roads at night is insufficient. To clearly capture images at night, you need to
install external illuminators for the camera.
Light direction: even illumination, no backlight or highlight
Lane requirements:
Ensure that the road section within 50 m in front of and behind the camera is straight. Ensure that there
are no traffic lights within 200 m in front of or behind the camera. Otherwise, vehicles may queue up.
At some intersections, there are multiple lanes for diverting vehicles with different driving directions. In
this case, it is recommended that cameras be installed some distance away from the intersection in a
location where there are fewer lanes to facilitate license plate capture and recognition.
Avoid capturing bus stations in the camera view. Vehicles may occlude each other at bus stations,
which affects license plate capture and recognition.
If there are street lamps and other light sources at the test site, avoid sodium lamps and strobe or flash
lights that are not controlled by your camera.
Avoid capturing irrelevant objects, such as leaves and billboards, as well as highlyreflective objects
such as glass in the camera view.
Others:
Ensure that the pole or beam can withstand at least four times the total weight of the camera, housing,
and bracket.
Take waterproofing measures to prevent water from entering your camera.

This document applies to a scenario where standard
checkpoint cameras are installed on poles with a height of
around 6 m (±0.5 m).
In the case of a non-standard scenario, contact Huawei
engineers to evaluate the feasibility of the scheme.

This document uses an X2391-20-T camera as an example.
A 9-megapixel super low-light checkpoint camera has four groups of RS-485 ports (D1+/D1-, D2+/D2-, D3+/D3-, and D4+/D4-). Both three-in-one intelligent traffic
illuminators (or smart LED illuminators) and radar detectors need to connect to RS-485 ports. In three-lane or four-lane detection schemes, three radar detectors are
used to measure vehicle speed and three illuminators are used to compensate light during in-vehicle target capture. However, there are only four groups of RS-485
ports. If both radar detectors and three-in-one intelligent traffic illuminators (or smart LED illuminators) need to be connected, the two-lane detection scheme is
recommended. If RS-485 loop vehicle detectors are used, the number of RS-485 ports may also be insufficient.

The three-in-one intelligent traffic illuminator is a three-in-one xenon LED integrated strobe/flash light and is used with super low-light checkpoint
cameras. The following figures and table show the appearance, cable connections, and schematic diagram of such illuminators.

The smart LED illuminator is used with super low-light checkpoint cameras. The following figures and table show the appearance, cable
connections, and schematic diagram of such smart LED illuminators.

•A FANG QIAN three-in-one intelligent traffic illuminator needs to connect to two groups of
TTL signal cables, so it can be applied only to two-lane detection scenarios. RS-485 signal
cables are connected to optimize the illuminator brightness.

1. Install the radar detectoron the beam and connectcables.
Connectthe radar detector to the RS-485portof thecamera using theRS-485cable. If a
prime lens camera is to be connected,the 12 V DC port of the camera can be directly
used for power supply. If a zoom camera is to be connected,independentpower supplyis
required and therequired power supply portis 12 V DC. The following figure shows the
cable connection.

2. Adjustthe bubblelevel. Whenthebubbleis in thecenter, theradar is horizontal. At this
time, record the initial tilt angle θ1.
3. Determine the radar tilt angle α by referring to the following table and taking into
account the radar installation heightand capturedirection (vehicle driving direction).
For example, if the installation height is 6 m and the capturedistanceis 24 m, the tilt
angle for capturingapproachingvehicles is 14°.

4. Calculate the value of θ2 by using the following formula: θ2 = θ1 + α. Then adjust the
radar detector's tilt angle to θ2 by referring to thetilt angle dial.

1. Power on thecamera.
2. Use a network cable to connectthecamera to the commissioninglaptop(or a video securitytester).
3. Change the laptop IP addressto be in the same network segmentas the camera IP address.
The default values of ETH0 and ETH1are 192.168.0.120and 192.168.1.120 respectively for the camera.
If the camera is not directly connectedto thenetwork or you have logged in to thecamera before, you
can use theSimsLite(or iClient SDC) to search for the camera IP address.
4. Open InternetExplorer as an administratorand enter the default camera IP address in the address box.
6. Configure text overlay on theimage.
•Choose Settings > Video/Audio/Image> OSD.
•
Click Add OSD or theedit icon in the Operationcolumn and add the camera
installation location to the Content column,as shown in the following figure.
5. Change the IP address of the camera as planned.
•Choose Settings > Network > TCP/IP.
•You need to configure IP addresses for the two network ports respectively.

Log in to thecamera web system and adjust the camera angle based on thevideo.
Adjustthe camera's shootingangle and zoom level (applicable to zoom ITS cameras), as
shown in the figure below, to ensurethat the following requirementsare met:
•The camera view captures all lanes.
•The dwell timeof a vehicle in theimage is at least 1s, and thelicense plate is horizontal
in the image.
•The horizontal resolution of the license plate of a vehicle parkedat thecaptureposition
is at least 120 pixels.
•For urban roads with regulated vehicle speed less than 80 km/h,the captureposition
(namely the detection line) is 25 m away from the pole.

Adjustthe focus ring for optimal imageclarity. Loosen the screw on the focus ring
(labeled Near/Far or ∞), and rotate the focus ring until the image is as sharp as
possible. Use a flat-head screwdriver to tightenthe screw on the side of thelens.
Check thesharpnessof a cone (or a real vehicle) in theimage.
3. Check the live video. If thebrightnessis too high,loosen thescrew on the aperture
ring, decrease theaperture to reduce thebrightness,and then retightenthe screw.

Note:
You can calculate the focal length of a zoom camera if you know the optical zoom ratio. To check the optical zoom ratio, choose Settings > System > Visible Area
in the camera web system, click Lens Info, and check the value of Optical zoom ratio. If the focal length of an ITS camera ranges from 11 mm to 40 mm, an
optical zoom ratio of 1x indicates that the focal length is 11 mm, 2x indicates that the focal length is 22 mm, and so on.
The horizontal resolution of the license plate mustbe at least 120 pixels. On the View page,click ,
frame the license plate on thelive video image, and check its resolution in thelower part of thepage.

4. Set thetotal numberof associated lanes, parametersof each lane, as well as
external lights associated with the lanes. Click Save.

1. Draw detection lines and license plate recognition areas as required. The figure on
the right shows an example.
•For thecamera web system of the 9.0.0.SPC6xxversion, choose Settings > ITS
Configuration> Application,and click the Scene Configurationtab.
•For thecamera web system of versions earlier than 9.0.0.SPC600,choose
IntelligentTransportation> SceneConfiguration.
2. Set external device parametersas required. For example, set the parameters of loop
vehicle detectors and radar detectors.
•For thecamera web system of the 9.0.0.SPC6xxversion, choose Settings> ITS
Configuration> Application,and click the ExternalDevicestab.
•For thecamera web system of versions earlier than 9.0.0.SPC600,choose
IntelligentTransportation> ExternalDevice.
3. Go to the View or Traffic Snapshots pageand click Enable Real-timeCapture or
Manual.The camera will then start detectingand taking snapshots,while real-time
results are displayed on theright of and below thevideo pane.

1. Set illuminatorparameters.(The smart LED illuminator is used as an example.)
•For the camerawebsystem of versions earlier than 9.0.0.SPC600, choose Settings > ITS
Configuration > Snapshot, and click the Illuminator Settings tab.
•For the camerawebsystem of versions earlier than 9.0.0.SPC600,chooseSettings > Snapshot
> Illuminator Settings.
2. Set parametersfor the smartLED illuminatoras required, as shownin the figure on the right.
a. Set Work mode to On for both the strobe light and flash light,and checkwhether the onsite
illuminatorflashes(turns on and off alternately).
If so, the cable connectionis incorrectand mustbe corrected; if not, cable connectionis correct.
b. Set Work mode to Auto for both the strobe lightand flash light,and set other parameterssuch as
Pulse width (us) (for whichvalue 1500 is recommended)and Frequency (Hz).
Set Delay (us) to 38000 when the frequency is 50 Hz, 75 Hz, or 100 Hz.
Set Delay (us) to 31300 when the frequency is 60 Hz, 90 Hz, or 120 Hz.
3. Go to the View or Traffic Snapshots page and click Enable Real-time Capture or Manual.
Check the positionof the light spot and the brightnessof the licenseplate and vehicle in the snapshot,
as shown in the followingfigure.
If the licenseplate is too dark, adjust the illuminatorangle to ensure that the light spot is close to the
vehicle rear. If the licenseplate is overexposed, move the light spot to a positionfurther away from the
vehicle rear.
Note:
1. When you adjust an illuminator, you are advised to also disable the illuminators for other lanes.
When you adjust the angle of the illuminator, the visibility of license plates may be affected. You can adjust the
brightness of the illuminator to compensate by performing the following operations:
Choose Service > Extension Interface > RS485 Setting, enable the RS-485 port, select the flash or strobe light
of the smart LED illuminator as required, and adjust the brightness.
2. If a LITE-ON three-in-one intelligent traffic illuminator is used onsite, you need to set flash light parameters for
IO(F) and smart LED illuminator parameters forIO(T) in the camera web system. If a FANG QIAN three-in-one
intelligent trafficilluminator is used onsite, you need to set flash light parameters for IO(F) and parameters of two
groups of LED flash lights for IO(T) in the camera web system. The parameter settings are similar to those of the
smart LED illuminator.
