INSTRUCTIONS
• The U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect dia er software is pre oaded on the device.
• It is high y recommended that you read the safety precautions described in this manua before using the Wire ess Modem.
This User Guide is described for Windows-based users. User interfaces may be s ight y different for Macintosh.

■ PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Thank you for your purchase. The UML397 Wire ess Modem is a 4G LTE wire ess device that enab es high-speed wire ess communication from
your aptop or desktop computer. The UML397 Wire ess Modem is simp e to insta and use.
The Wire ess Modem is designed for your aptop or desktop computer’s USB port, which is avai ab e in most mode s. The Wire ess Modem can
be used to access the Internet, your company’s intranet, or you can use it to send and receive emai . It is extreme y usefu when you are away
from the office, on the road, or wherever a wired Internet access is not readi y avai ab e.
The fo owing figure shows the appearance of the Wire ess Modem. It is provided on y for your reference. The figure on the right
shows a product with its cover removed. The actua product may be different.
 Rotatable USB Connector
It connects the Wire ess Modem to a PC.

 RF Output Power Port
It connects an RF cab e to the Wire ess Modem for RF tests.
 Indicator
It indicates the status of the Wire ess Modem.
 Green, b inking twice every 2s: The Wire ess Modem is powered on.
 Green, b inking once every 0.2s: The U.S. Ce u ar
®
Broadband Connect of the Wire ess Modem is being upgraded.
 Green, b inking once every 2s: The Wire ess Modem is registering with a 1X network.
 B ue, b inking once every 2s: The Wire ess Modem is registering with a 3G network.
 Cyan, b inking once every 2s: The Wire ess Modem is registering with a 4G LTE network.
 Green, so id: The Wire ess Modem is connected to a 1X network.
 B ue, so id: The Wire ess Modem is connected to a 3G network.
 Cyan, so id: The Wire ess Modem is connected to a 4G LTE network.
 Off: The Wire ess Modem is removed.
 SIM Card Slot
It ho ds a Subscriber Identity Modu e (SIM) card.
 Button
Press the button to turn over the USB connector, as shown in the fo owing figure.
 microSD Card Slot
It ho ds a microSD card.
Getting Started
Installing the 4G LTE SIM Card
1. S ide the front cover off.
2. Insert the 4G LTE SIM card into the card s ot.
3. S ide the front cover back onto the Wire ess Modem unti it snaps into p ace.
Inserting the microSD Card
Insert the microSD card into the Wire ess Modem, as shown in the fo owing figure.

Note:
 The microSD card is an optiona accessory and may be purchased separate y.
 Ensure that the beve ed edge of the SIM card is proper y a igned with that of the SIM card s ot and the microSD card is inserted according to
the direction as abe ed on the microSD card s ot.
 Do not remove the microSD or SIM card when the card is in use. Otherwise, the card as we as your Wire ess Modem may get damaged and
the data stored on the card may be corrupted.

■ PRECAUTIONS
• Once the modem has been inserted into the aptop or desktop computer, do not remove it without first comp eting the unp ugging/ejection
process.
■ RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect operates in Windows ® XP, Vista, 7 or Mac environments.
Check the fo owing points in order to ensure the app ication works correct y:
• Minimum screen reso ution recommended: 800x600 256 co ors.
• 130MB or more of avai ab e hard disk space for PC and 15MB avai ab e hard disk space for Mac.
WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 OR HIGHER
• Minimum 300 MHz Processor.
• 512 MB of RAM recommended.
• Service Pack 2.
WINDOWS VISTA SERVICE PACK 1 OR HIGHER
• PC featuring a Pentium ® IV 2 GHz or better processor.
• 512 MB of RAM recommended.
WINDOWS 7
• PC featuring a Pentium IV 2 GHz or better processor.
• 512 MB of RAM recommended.
MAC OS X 10.5, 10.6, 10.7
■ INSTALLING U.S. Cellular Broadband Connect
INSTALLATION
• When you insta U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect, it wi insta the USB Driver for the UML397 Wire ess Modem. Fo ow the instructions
from the U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect for insta ation.
WARNINGS!
• Make sure to comp ete the unp ugging/ejection process BEFORE removing the UML397 Wire ess Modem. If you remove the device
improper y, the product may be damaged.
• If you have inserted the device proper y, Windows wi inform you of the new hardware. Wait unti Windows comp etes the “Found New Hardware” task. In
Windows XP, severa too tips simi ar to the “Found New Hardware” function wi appear and disappear in the system tray automatica y. In Windows Vista, severa
too tips simi ar to the “Insta ing device driver software” function wi appear and disappear in the system tray automatica y. Once hardware detection is comp ete,
you wi be prompted to start activation.
•For Mac OS, a device icon wi appear on the desktop. Before unp ugging the USB modem, be sure to move the icon to the trash for proper ejection.
• It is norma to hear a short beep sound each time you insert or remove the UML397 Wire ess Modem . It is an audib e notification that your aptop or desktop
computer recognizes the new hardware.

• When removing the UML397 Wire ess Modem a ways grip the top and bottom of the modem and push/pu carefu y.

SETUP

GETTING STARTED
This chapter wi guide you through the setup process for U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect. Before getting started, you shou d become fami iar
with the documentation that came with your wire ess device.
GETTING STARTED (WINDOWS)
Fo ow these steps to insta U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect:
1 Turn on your computer and c ose a app ications.
2 Insert the UML397 Wire ess Modem into the USB port.
3 If set up does not automatica y start:
a. C ick the Start Button.
b. Choose My Computer.
c. Find and doub e c ick on the drive icon (U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect) that represents the Wire ess Modem.
4 Fo ow the steps in the next section.
STEP 1: To insta on your hard drive, connect your device to your PC. The insta ation process wi start automatica y.
Se ect the anguage for the insta ation from the choices be ow – “Eng ish” or “Spanish” and c ick the “Next” button.
STEP 2: In the “U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect – License Agreement” screen, you wi see the Program User License Agreement. In order to
insta and use this product, you must agree with the terms of this agreement. Se ect “I agree” then c ick the “Next” button to continue. If you do
not agree with this agreement, c ick the “Cance ” button to exit.
STEP 3: After agreeing to the License Agreement, you wi see the “U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect – Setup Type” screen. You can se ect
from the two setup types – Express Insta or Custom Insta . It is recommended that you choose Express Insta . C ick the “Next” button to
continue.

BROADBAND CONNECT SETUP PROGRAM (MAC)
STEP 1: Doub e c ick the U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect setup program.
When the pop-up screen appears to confirm insta ing the U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect, c ick the “Continue” button to continue with the
insta ation process.
STEP 2: The “We come” screen appears. C ick the “Continue” button.
STEP 3: The “Info & Manua ” screen appears. C ick the “Continue” button
STEP 4: You are now ready to se ect the ocation on your computer where U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect shou d be insta ed.
STEP 5: During this step the components of U.S. Ce u ar Broadband Connect are being insta ed onto your computer. Insta ation wi occur to
the destination fo der specified in Step 4 above or you may change the insta ation ocation by pressing
