Powermax45 Control Board Replacement Kit
Introduction
Purpose
This field service bulletin describes the steps necessary for replacing the Powermax45 control board.

Powermax45 Control Board Replacement Kit
Replace the control board
Use the following procedure to replace the control board in all Powermax45 systems. However, be sure to use the
replacement control board in kit number 228262 for all Powermax45 systems except for the 480 V CSA models, which
use kit number 428098.
1. Turn OFF the power, disconnect the power cord, and disconnect the gas supply.
2. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the 2 screws from the handle on the top of the power supply. Tip the end
panels back slightly so that you can get the edges of the handle out from underneath them. Lift the cover off the
power supply. Remove the Mylar®insulator that protects the power board.
3. Remove the amperage control knob by pulling it straight out from the end panel.
4. Remove the front end panel, or gently tilt it away from the base.
5. Detach the ribbon cable from the power
board at J7 (200 – 240 V CSA and 230 V
CE) or J8 (400 V CE and 480 V CSA).
6. Test the new control board before
installing it by attaching its ribbon cable to
the power board. Reconnect the power,
turn the system on, and verify that the start
LED on the control board is the only LED
illuminated. Also, the fault LEDs on the
front panel should be extinguished.
7. Disconnect the electrical power and the
ribbon cable again, and set aside the new
control board.
8. Remove the 3 retaining screws from the
old control board and lift it out of the
power supply.
9. Screw the new control board into place
with the 3 retaining screws and then
attach the ribbon cable.
10. Press the amperage control knob onto the
post. There is a flat side on the post.
Ensure that the flat side of the opening in
the knob aligns with the flat side on the
post.
11. Reposition the front end panel.
CAUTION!
Static electricity can damage circuit boards. Use proper precautions when handling printed circuit
boards.
– Store PC boards in anti-static containers.
– Wear a grounded wrist strap when handling PC boards.

12. Being careful not to pinch any of the wires, replace the Mylar barrier and slide the cover back onto the power supply.
Position the handle over the holes in the top of the cover, then use the 2 screws to secure the cover.
13. Reconnect the electrical power and the gas supply.

Remplacement du circuit imprimé de commande
Suivre les procédures suivantes pour le remplacement du circuit imprimé de commande de tous les systèmes
Powermax45. S’assurer cependant d’utiliser le circuit imprimé de commande de rechange du kit numéro 228262 pour
tous les systèmes Powermax45 à l’exception des modèles 480 V CSA, qui utilisent le kit numéro 428098.
1. Couper l’alimentation (OFF), débrancher le cordon d’alimentation et débrancher l’alimentation en gaz.
2. Utiliser un tournevis cruciforme n° 2 pour déposer les deux vis de la poignée située sur le dessus de la source
de courant. Basculer légèrement les panneaux d’extrémité de façon à en extraire les bords de la poignée d’en
dessous. Retirer le couvercle de la source de courant en le levant. Déposer l’isolateur Mylar®qui protège le circuit
imprimé d’alimentation.
3. Retirer le bouton de commande de l’intensité en le sortant vers le haut du panneau d’extrémité.
4. Retirer le panneau avant ou l’incliner doucement pour le retirer du socle.
5. Détacher le câble plat du circuit imprimé
d’alimentation au niveau de J7
(200 – 240 V CSA et 230 V CE) ou de J8
(400 V CE et 480 V CSA).
6. Tester le nouveau circuit imprimé
de commande avant de l’installer
en attachant le câble plat au circuit
imprimé d’alimentation. Rebrancher
l’alimentation, mettre le système sous
tension et vérifier que la DEL
de démarrage du circuit imprimé
de commande est la seule allumée.
De plus, les DEL de défaillance situées
sur le panneau avant doivent être éteintes.
7. Déconnecter l’alimentation électrique
et le câble plat, puis mettre de côté
le nouveau circuit imprimé de commande.
8. Retirer les trois vis de fixation de l’ancien
circuit imprimé de commande et le sortir
de la source de courant.
9. Installer et visser le nouveau circuit
imprimé de commande à l’aide des
trois vis de fixation, puis brancher le câble
plat.
ATTENTION !
L’électricité statique peut endommager les cartes de circuits imprimés. Les précautions qui s’imposent
doivent être respectées lors de la manipulation des cartes de circuits imprimés.
– Les cartes de circuits imprimés doivent être rangées dans des contenants antistatiques.
– L’utilisateur doit porter un bracelet antistatique lors de la manipulation des cartes de circuits
imprimés.

10. Appuyer le bouton de commande de l’intensité sur la tige. La tige possède un côté plat. Veiller à ce que le côté plat
de l’ouverture du bouton s’aligne avec le côté plat de la tige.
11. Repositionner le panneau avant.
12. En prenant garde de ne pas pincer les fils, replacer la barrière Mylar et faire coulisser le couvercle sur la source
de courant pour le remettre en place. Positionner la poignée sur les orifices de la partie supérieure du couvercle, puis
utiliser les deux vis pour fixer le couvercle.
13. Reconnecter l’alimentation électrique et l’alimentation en gaz.
