Rate Calculation
250ml to be infused in 2 hours 30 minutes.
When calculating rates, change the time of infusion into
minutes e.g. 2hours 30 mins = 150 mins, therefore to calculate
this rate: -
60 x 250 = 100 ml/hr
150
The rate of infusion is therefore 100ml/hr.

1000ml to be infused in 8 hour 30 minutes = 100ml/hr.
Again change the time of infusion into minutes, 8 hour 30
minutes = 510 minutes, to calculate this rate: -
60 x 1000 = 117.6 ml/hr
510
The rate of infusion is therefore 118 ml/hr

 Press the ON/OFF key (Circled in RED);
the pump will go through a short ‘self
test’ which is a power up sequence, wait
until the power up sequence has finished.
 The TOT VOL INF can be re-set at this
point by pressing the TOT VOL INF key
along with the 100’s down arrow (as
shown on the pump to clear; circled in
YELLOW). This will clear all the
previous total fluid volumes.

Identify the correct giving set.
Set the line as shown opposite
ensuring that the pressure
sensor is securely fitted, and
that the line passes over the
AIL detector (circled in RED).
During an AIL error code clean
the sensor this may clear the
error code.

Connect flow sensor (as seen below) if
required; ensure that the sensors are placed
on the ‘clear’ part of the drip chamber.
Ensuring that the flow sensor is clean will
lessen some error codes
Press Rate Key (key 11) and set rate to
155ml by pressing the UP/DOWN arrows
shown opposite circled in RED.

 Press VOL TO BE INF key (circled
in RED) and set it to 150ml.
 Press RUN key circled in YELLOW
and follow the instructions until
infusion begins.
 Once the infusion begins ensure that
the flow indicator bar (circled in
blue opposite) rotates during
infusion, and that it will change
from a rotating bar to a circle. Each
circle represents a drip being
detected.

To check how much volume has been infused
press the TOT VOL INF key, circled in RED.
To check what the pressure is press the ‘READ
PRES’ key, circled in YELLOW.
Once the infusion has completed, it will alarm
and the display screen will show INFUSION
COMPLETE KVO 5.0ml/HR.
The KVO (Keep Vein Open) indicates that the
pump will continue to infuse at 5ml/hl, to stop
the KVO press the hold key.

 Stop the infusion by pressing the
RUN/HOLD key.
 Remove the giving set from the patient.
 Turn the pump off by pressing the
On/Off key.
 Before storing the pump discard the
giving set safely as per hospital policy.
 Ensure that the pump is clean before
storing.
 Always ensure that the pump is plugged
into the mains socked so that the pump is
continually charging.
