About this guide
IBM System Storage™DS8000 is ahigh-performance, high-capacity series of disk
storage that is designed to support continuous operations. This publication
provides information that allows you to effectively use the DS8000 storage unit.
Included among this information are procedures and guidelines for performing the
following tasks:
vInstalling the DS8000 Storage Manager on aWindows or Linux operating system
vUsing the management console to access the DS8000 Storage Manager
vUsing the optional features supported on the storage unit
vMigrating data to or between storage units
vHandling disaster recovery

This unit contains recyclable materials.
This unit must be recycled or discarded according to applicable local and national
regulations. IBM®encourages owners of information technology (IT) equipment to

concerning waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The Directive
determines the framework for the return and recycling of used appliances as

Battery return program
This product may contain asealed lead acid, nickel cadmium, nickel metal
hydride, lithium, or lithium ion battery. Consult your user manual or service
manual for specific battery information. The battery must be recycled or disposed
of properly. Recycling facilities may not be available in your area. For information
on disposal of batteries outside the United States, go to http://www.ibm.com/
ibm/environment/products/index.shtml or contact your local waste disposal
facility.
In the United States, IBM has established areturn process for reuse, recycling, or
proper disposal of used IBM sealed lead acid, nickel cadmium, nickel metal
hydride, and other battery packs from IBM Equipment. For information on proper
disposal of these batteries, contact IBM at 1-800-426-4333. Please have the IBM part
