Micro iDSD
SmartPower®
Please feed the Meaty Monster
Short Answer:
The micro iDSD manual covers the lion’s share of charging eventualities. All that it requires is connection to a suitable USB power source and left
alone until the BLUE led is extinguished (length depends upon battery %). Thereafter, it is ready to play music.
If however for any reason the micro iDSD never reaches this state, the battery is likely to be operating on an empty tank – hence the various LED
states reported.

Unit turned on (includes any item being plugged into the charger port and charging:
LED Status Cause
Resolution: Gotcha’s:
Blinking Red
Unit has gone into “battery critical” shutdown. No
power source suitable to recharge is attached (e.g. an
iPhone is not “suitable” and so no current will be
drawn from the iPhone). All functions are off, current
draw is a few mA from the battery, LED will blink until
unit is turned off or the battery is exhausted, appx. 48
hours in this state. Until the battery is recharged by
about 15% the unit will remain “locked in shutdown”.
Turn unit off, attach a charger, make sure charging commences and leave
unit to charge until blue charge indication turns off. Depending on charger
and discharge state this may be between 8 and 24 hours. It is possible to
res ume use after parti al charge, but i t i s best to restore the battery to ful l .
At thi s poi nt the uni t attempts to protect
the battery from a deep discharge that
would reduce lifespan. If resolved in good
ti me, there i s no nega ti ve i mpa c t.
Blinking Red/Blue
Unit has gone into “battery critical” shutdown. As part
of the shutdown the iDSD micro tests if a power source
suitable to recharge is attached (e.g. an iPhone is not
“suitable” and so no current will be drawn from the
iPhone). Such a power source was detected and the iDSD
micro is in full shutdown but recharges from the USB
Power Port.
Turn unit off (at which point the LED will indicate charging by turning a
steady blue) and leave the unit to charge until blue charge indication
turns off. Depending on charger and discharge state this may be between 8
and 24 hours.
At thi s poi nt the uni t attempts to protect
the battery from a deep discharge that
would reduce lifespan. If resolved in good
ti me, there i s no nega ti ve i mpa c t.
Blinking Green
(very fas t)
The battery’s own protection circuitry has disconnected
the battery to prevent deep discharge that may cause
damage to the battery. The iDSD micro is inoperable
until the battery is res tored to heal thy s tatus .
Turn unit off (at which point the LED will blink blue very fast). At this point
the iDSD micro will charge the battery under USB charging standard “flat
battery provision” at very reduced rate to avoid damage. Afterwards the
battery can be charged normally again (normally will be the case within <
30 min) the unit will return to normal charging with a steady blue LED
indication and leave the unit to charge until blue charge indication turns
off. Depending on charger and discharge state this may be between 8 and
24 hours.
I n r ar e c as es (a ctua l l y s o fa r onl y theoreti c al , we ha ve not been a bl e to
provoke this in practice) the battery may be depleted so much that after
the expiry of the 30 minutes for “flat battery provision” the battery can
still not be charged normally. In this case the unit will shut off completely.
Then the iDSD micro must be un-plugged/re-plugged from the USB port to
res tart another 30 mi nutes “Flat Ba ttery” cycl e.
At thi s poi nt the uni t attempts to protect
the battery from damage. In this rare
instance, the impact if any is likely
minimal, but repeated cases of the
battery protection circuitry engaging may
impair battery life.
There is no other risk as the protection
ci rcuitry prevents battery states that may
result in damage.
Worst case scenario, have your micro
iDSD serviced by an authorised repair
centre - to excha nge the battery.

to heal thy status.
The iDSD micro will charge the battery
under USB charging standard flat battery
provision. Afterwards, the battery can be
charged normally again the unit returns to
normal charging with a steady blue LED
indication. Leave the unit to charge until
the blue charge indication turns off.
Depending on charger and discharge state,
this may be between 8 and 24 hours.
At thi s point the unit attempts to protect the
battery from damage. If this happens rarely the
impact is likely small, but repeated cases of the
battery protection circuitry engaging may impair
ba ttery l i fe. There i s no other ri s k (e.g. the ri s k of
rapid unintended disassembly) as the protection
circui try prevents battery s tates that may result in
damage.
Blue
(goes off a fter few s econds )
