Super CAESAR
Instantaneous wall-hung room
sealed fan-assisted water heater.
Super CAESAR
General features.
Super CAESAR is a room-sealed water heater featuring an
electronic flame modulation system that optimally regulates the
temperature thanks to a microprocessor-controlled modulation
board and flow and temperature sensors.
Super CAESAR features standard electronic burner ignition
and a wet combustion chamber copper exchanger.
Notwithstanding its very compact size, the appliance has a
power of 29.8 kW (25,650 Kcal/h) corresponding to a flow
-rate of 17 l/min with a temperature increase of 25°C.
Super CAESAR is factory set for connecting to the broad range
of couple-on extraction and exhaust kits with silicone seals
and, thanks to a special cover kit (optional), it can be installed
outdoors in a partly protected area.
It is also fitted with a standard antifreeze safety device that
protects it at temperatures of -5°C and another optional anti-
freeze safety device is available to protect it against temperatures
as low as -15°C.

Hydraulic circuit.
e hydraulic circuit with relevant control and safety devices
is engaged every time there is a request for domestic hot
water.
Operation.
Drawing at least 2.5 l/min of domestic hot water means a
flow of cold water inside the flow meter (13) and consequent
enabling of operation.
Following this, the adjustment circuit ignites the burner.
is way the heat generated by the flame and contained in the
fumes produced by combustion is absorbed by the copper fins
of the water-gas exchanger (3) which in turn transfers the heat
to the water flowing inside.
Heat exchanger (1).
is is a water-gas exchanger (1) with pipes and fins in cop-
per at the exit of which is positioned the overheating safety
thermostat (2).
It is of the so-called “wet chamber” type because the lower part
(3) around which is wrapped the hot water outlet pipe (4),
represents in fact the combustion chamber.
NOTE: to maintain the characteristics of efficiency of the
exchanger, we recommend installing a “anti-scale” kit if the
water is hard and scale deposits on the pipes (recommended
when water hardness exceeds 25 French degrees).
Safety devices and controls.
Flow meter (1).
is is a rotating magnetic sensor fitted at the cold water flow
inlet.
By means of a three-pole connector (2) it is electrically con-
nected to the adjustment board, allowing this to measure the
flow of water to determine minimum ignition value (2.5 l/min)
and optimise temperature adjustment. A 12 l/min flow limiter
(3) is fitted at the flow meter outlet (1).
10 bar safety valve unit (1).
It prevents safety pressure (10 bar) being exceeded in the hy-
draulic circuit of the water heater.
It is connected to the cold water inlet pipe and located at the
exchanger inlet.
A one-way valve is fitted inside that prevents the return of hot
water towards the water supply pipeline.

e circuit consists of an atmospheric burner and a modulat-
ing type valve for gas combustion and gas flow adjustment
respectively.
Operation.
When the main coils (3) are energised, both inner valve shutters
open, allowing the gas to flow towards the burner.
e flow rate/outlet pressure is regulated by means of the gas
valve stabiliser and the modulation coil (1).
By means of the burner nozzles (6), the fuel is injected into
the horizontal Venturi pipes (ramps) inside which the air-gas
mix is obtained .
e mixture is ignited by the ignition electrode spark (5).
Modulating Gas Valve.
e gas valve (SIT 845) features two main coils (3) and a
modulation coil (1) controlled by the integrated board.
e maximum and minimum outlet pressure settings can be
made on this valve (see gas adjustments).
Main electrical coils (3).
Two ON-OFF coils supplied (230Vac) by the integrated board
when the burner has to be ignited.
ese are electrically connected in parallel and supplied by
mains voltage through a special connector (2).
Modulation coil (1).
This is a low-voltage coil controlled by the modulation
board.
is controls the gas valve stabiliser and permits changing the
outlet pressure in a way proportionate to the DC signal that
runs through it.
Gas Circuit.
Burner.
e burner consists of 15 horizontal Venturi pipes (4) in which
the gas is injected by an equal number of nozzles (6) mounted
on the special manifold (7). e nozzles diameter varies accord-
ing to the type of gas used (see the technical data).
Ignition occurs by means of an integrated board (IGNITION
SECTION) which controls the ignition/detection electrode
(5).
Ignition and detection electrode (5).
During ignition, the electrode is controlled by the integrated
board (IGNITION SECTION) which produces an electrical
discharge between its end and the burner surface that ignites
the air-gas mix.
When the burner is on, the electrode also detects the flame on
the burner enabling the board to conclude the ignition cycle
and change the gas pressure according to need.
is is positioned on the front of the burner in line with the
middle ramp.

Gas adjustments.
Maximum and minimum gas pressure adjustments can be
made by means of the gas valve respecting the values shown
in the tables relating to the type of corresponding gas (see the
technical data).
Measurements are made using a differential pressure gauge
whose positive pressure point is connected to gas valve outlet
(4) while the negative pressure point is connected, tanks to an
"Y" hose union, to the small silicone pipe that goes from the
gas valve to the sealed chamber.
Gas valve SIT 845.
Maximum pressure setting.
Draw d.h.w. after setting the temperature selector knob at
maximum.
Turn the brass nut (3) clockwise to increase the pressure to the
burner and anticlockwise to decrease it.
Minimum pressure setting.
(to be done after adjusting max pressure).
After interrupting supply to the modulation coil, turn the
crosshead screw (2) clockwise to increase pressure to the burner
and anticlockwise to decrease it.
Changing the type of gas.
Adaptation to a type of gas different to that for which the boiler
is intended, can be done by using the special kits (natural gas
or LPG).
e changeover consists in replacing the burner nozzles and
in moving the “NATURAL GAS- LPG” (S1) jumper on the
modulation board.
e minimum and maximum pressures are set afterwards on
the gas valve in the way described above.
e burner ignition pressure is not regulated because the
type of board operation does not require such a setting (see
modulation board operation).
NOTE: if you have to change to gas type G110 (town gas),
besides using the special nozzle kit and following the steps
described above, you will also have to shift the selector “S1”
jumper to selector “S2” which is on the electronic board (see
modulation board settings).

Fumes circuit.
Operation.
e products of combustion, after hitting the water-gas ex-
changer (3), are conveyed to a draught diverter (5) on top of
which the fumes extractor (fan) (1) is fitted.
Fan operation ensures forced expulsion of the fumes and, at
the same time, creates a vacuum in the sealed chamber (2) so
the combustion air can be extracted from outside.
Correct fumes extraction is controlled by a differential pres-
sure switch (4), the operation of which enables or prevents the
burner from igniting.
Flue pressure switch (4).
Positioned in the top inner part of the sealed chamber, it
detects, by means of special pressure points, the pressure
difference between fan output and the inside of the sealed
chamber.
Triggering of this switch causes a contact (S6) to close. is
affects the integrated board and either enables or prevents
burner ignition.

Fan (1).
e extractor operates downstream from the combustion
chamber and is fitted vertically in the top part of the draught
diverter (5).
e fan extracts the fumes and conveys them into the exhaust
pipes to which the boiler is connected.
e fan guarantees the flow of air inside the sealed chamber
at the same time.
It is controlled by the integrated board and its operation co-
incides with that of the burner.

Intake and exhaust systems.
(see intake and exhaust kits instructions).
Super CAESAR is set for connecting to the push fitting intake/
exhaust kits and can be installed outdoors as well as indoors (in
a partially protected area) in the following configurations:
Outdoors:
- a sealed chamber fan-assisted configuration with direct air
intake (type C) using the special covering kit;
- a sealed chamber fan-assisted configuration (type C).
Indoors:
- an open chamber fan-assisted configuration (type B) using
the special covering kit;
- a sealed chamber fan-assisted configuration (type C).
As regards the load losses relating to each accessory, the vari-
ous possible combinations and the use of diaphragms to be
fitted according to the length of the pipes, see the intake
and exhaust kits instructions(Super CAESAR instruction
booklet).
Accessories (bends, extensions and flue terminals) are push-fitting
type and the seal is provided by special silicone lip seals.
Sealed chamber and fan-assisted configuration
with direct air intake (type C) for installation
outdoors in a partially protected area (see il-
lustration beside).
Using a special cover (4) to position on the top part of the
sealed chamber, the Super CAESAR appliance can be installed
outdoors in a partially protected area.
Intake.
To fit the cover (4), the two caps (1) that close the holes in the
top part of the sealed chamber must be removed.
e combustion air is extracted directly from the environment
exploiting the free space between the lower part of the cover
(4) and the upper part of the boiler.
Exhaust.
e connection between the flue hood and the Ø80 flue pipe
is obtained by means of a flange (3) used in the twin pipe
systems.
e use of special accessories permits horizontal type (A) or
vertical type (B) exhaust.
To avoid condensate problems, the exhaust pipe must be
restricted to 5 metres.
Open chamber fan-assisted configuration (type
B) for indoor installation (see figure beside).
Use the covering kit described previously.
By removing the side caps from the sealed chamber, the air is
extracted directly from the room the water heater is installed
in.
e fumes are extracted through specific Ø80 flue pipes in a
chimney or directly outside.

Sealed chamber fan-assisted configuration
(type C).
Exhaust.
Connection to the exhaust pipes is obtained by means of a
flange (1) or a flanged bend to be fitted on the central hole (6)
on the top section of the sealed chamber, placing in between
a special shaped seal (5).
is flange differs according to whether the twin pipe or con-
centric system is used.
In the former case, the duct for the combustion air (8) is closed,
while in the latter case it is used.
To ensure correct appliance operation, a diaphragm (7) will
have to be fitted between the exhaust duct (6) and the flange
used (1).
Diaphragms are envisaged of different diameter which must
be fitted according to the type of flue pipe and its length (see
the Super CAESAR instruction booklet).
Intake.
Using the twin pipe system, connection to the air intake pipes
is done in the same way as for the exhaust pipes, linking up
to one of the two holes with diameter 80 mm (2) on the top
section of the sealed chamber.
e hole which is not used is closed using one of the caps
(3), placing in between the relevant seal (4) featured on the
appliance.
If concentric pipes are used, intake is done by exploiting the
external concentric duct (8).
Intake and Exhaust Kits.
e kits with the relevant accessories make it possible to use
two concentric systems and a twin pipe system.
As regards flow resistance relating to each accessory, for the
various possible combinations and use of the diaphragms to
be installed according to the length of the pipes, see the intake
and exhaust kits instructions (Super CAESAR instruction
booklet).
e accessories (bends, extensions and end flue terminals)
are connected by means of push-fitting couplings and seal is
ensured by means of silicone-lip seals.
Horizontal concentric kit Ø 60/100.
e exhaust pipe ( Ø 60 mm) is fitted inside the intake pipe
(Ø 100 mm).
Connection to the appliance is by means of a 90° (2) fully
adjustable bend which, by means of the necessary extensions,
must be connected to the intake and exhaust flue terminal
(3).
e maximum overall length allowed beyond the first bend
(2) is 3 straight horizontal metres.

Ø 60/100 vertical concentric kit.
e exhaust pipe (Ø 60 mm) is fitted inside the intake pipe
(Ø 100 mm).
Connection to the appliance is by means of a flange (2) which,
by means of the necessary extensions, must be connected to the
intake and exhaust flue terminal (5) with aluminium tile (4).
e maximum overall length allowed is 4.7 straight vertical
metres.
Ø 80/80 twin pipe.
e pipes both have a diameter of 80 mm.
Connections to the appliance are by means of two special
flanges for exhaust (4) from the central duct and for intake
(3) from one of the two side holes.
e maximum length allowed (intake + exhaust) is 33 straight
horizontal metres and 41 straight vertical metres.
To avoid problems of condensate, the exhaust pipe should be
restricted to a max of 5 m.

Electrical circuit.
e electrical circuit of the Super CAESAR appliance is fully
controlled by an electronic board which controls all generator
functions and to which are connected the electrical devices of
230 V AC circuit.
Safety devices and controls.

Electrical circuit.
Operation.
When the functioning knob (S4) is in ON position, it supplies
the low-voltage circuit and enables appliance operation.
If hot water is run the d.h.w. flow meter (B6) trips and this
gives the signal for burner ignition.
Afterwards, if the temperature detected by the d.h.w. NTC
probe (B2) is below than the set one on the control panel (S4),
the board starts the fan (M20) by means of the relay K3.
e consequent closing of the flue pressure switch (S6) results
in the adjustment circuit powering relay K4.
is way the ignition circuit of the integrated board is enabled
(IGNITION SECTION) which first of all commands the
ignition/detection electrode (E3) and then excites relay K2.
With the overheating safety thermostat (E4) conctact closed,
relay K2 contact supplies both main coils of the gas valve
(Y1).
Burner ignition is detected by the ignition/detection electrode
(E3).

Modulation board.
Inside the Super CAESAR control panel is fitted a micro-
processor driven electronic board that integrates the ignition
and modulation functions and, by means of LED, shows
the operating condition of the appliance and the tripping of
safety devices.
Operation.
When the functioning knob (S4) is in ON position it supplies
the low-voltage circuit and enables appliance operation.
If hot water is run the d.h.w. flow meter device (B6) trips and
this gives to the board the signal for burner ignition.
Afterwards, if the temperature detected by the d.h.w. NTC
probe (B2) is below than the set one on the control panel (S4),
the board starts the fan (M20) by means of the relay K3.
e consequent operation of fan (M20) results in closing of
the flue pressure switch contact (S6) thereby allowing the
adjustment circuit to excite relay K4.
us the integrated board’s ignition circuit is enabled (IGNI-
TION SECTION) which, first of all commands the ignition/
detection electrode (E3) and then energises relay K2.
When the signal is given by the overheating safety thermostat
(E4), the closing of relay K2’s contact supplies both main coils
of the gas valve (Y1).
During the ignition phase, the current to the modulation (Y2)
coil is gradually taken, in just 8 seconds, from minimum to
50% of maximum.
Afterwards, the signal is increased so as to immediately reach
(if required) the maximum value set on the gas valve.
During operation, flame modulation occurs with reference
to the difference between the temperature set with the d.h.w.
potentiometer (d.h.w. regulator) and the temperature read by
the d.h.w. NTC probe (B2).
When the set value is exceeded, the burner is kept running at
the minimum d.h.w. power (6.600 kcal/h) and the contact
of relay K4 is opened (burner off) only when the d.h.w. NTC
probe (B2) reads a temperature above 66°C (whatever the set
temperature is).
In this situation, the burner is turned on and off at a variable
frequency in a way inversely proportionate to the flow of water
read by the d.h.w. flow meter in order to keep the temperature
constant.
If the water temperature drops below 54°C or a considerable
variation in flow is detected (about 1l/min), burner ignition
and switchoff occur with reference to the temperature read by
the d.h.w. NTC probe (B2) instead of the flow of water.
e modulation range (maximum and minimum) during
operation is regulated on the gas valve (see gas adjust-
ments).












Inputs.
It enables the integrated board’s ignition circuit to detect the flame on the burner.
If this does not happen, the no ignition lock trips, signalled by the lighting up of red
LED H2.

is is a positive square-wave signal with variable On-Off ratio (duty-cycle) that controls
the modulation coil of the gas valve and makes possible to change gas pressure to the
burner.

is is a high voltage signal (about 16 kV) for energising the ignition electrode on the
appliance.

Safety devices.
If, within 10 seconds from the start of the ignition cycle, the detection electrode (E3) fails
to detect the flame on the burner, the appliance operation is stopped.
To start the appliance again, the functioning knob (S4) has to be moved to “OFF” and
afterwards, after putting the selector back to “ON”, run the hot water.
e tripping of the safety devices is indicated by the lighting up of red LED H2.
No ignition block
In the event of the overheating safety thermostat contact (E4) opening, the appliance is
stopped.
To start the appliance again, the functioning knob (S4) has to be moved to “OFF” and
afterwards, after putting the selector back to “ON”, run the hot water.
e tripping of the safety device is indicated by the flashing of red LED H2.
Overheating block
