1 Intended Use
Operational safety of the equipment supplied is ensured only when used as intended.
The intended use includes following the regulations contained in these operating
instructions as well as compliance with all maintenance and service tasks.
The IMS cutter NANOeasy must only be used for cutting work for the restoration of
pressureless pipes or lines. The device can be used to open inliners after restoration
and remove obstacles (roots, protruding seals, minor offsets, or the like). The
machine may not be used for unintended purposes.
Unauthorised structural changes to the equipment may cause damage to the
machine thus representing a hazard to persons. IMS is not liable for resulting
damages. In the event of damage the operating company remains responsible and
responsibility cannot be transferred to IMS.

7
2 Safety regulations
2.1 General safety regulations
1.) The accident prevention instructions (German UVV/BGV A-D) must be complied
with when operating the device.
2.) The device must only be operated by personnel who have been instructed how
to use it and who have read and understood these operating instructions.
Inadequate knowledge may cause damages on the device and hazards for the
operator.
3.) The presence of persons inside the shaft and below the suspended load when
lowering the IMS NANOeasy cutter into shaft structures is prohibited.
4.) Observe all accident prevention regulations for working on pipelines, earth-
moving machines, winches and lifting and towing devices, as well as the safety

4 Operation
4.1 General
The IMS NANOeasy cutter is a device for performing cutting work for the purpose of
pressureless pipe or line renovation. The device can be used to open inliners after
renovation and remove obstacles (roots, protruding seals, minor offsets or the like).
To start up the IMS NANOeasy cutter first set up the cutter itself and the necessary
media. The cutter consists of the following assemblies:
1
Control wheel
2
Monitor
3
Chassis
4
Hose assembly with cutter drive and camera
5
Cable drum
6
Cutter motor

12
The device serial number is located on the chassis.
All assemblies have a minimum protection class of IP 54. This means that the
assemblies are protected against:
-Penetration of wires
-Dust
-surrounding splash water
The media must have the following properties:
Power supply: 100 –240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, max. 1.0 A
Supply air: Dirt-free (particles < 5 micrometres)
Temperature range 5 °C to max. 40 °C
(41 °F to max. 104 °F)
Residual water separated
Residual oil < 5 mg/m³
Supply line pressure 7 –10 bar (102 –145 PSI)
Min. volume flow 1 m³/min (35 CFM)

13
4.2 Extension DN 150 for NANOeasy (optional)
Due to an additional extension, the IMS cutter NANOeasy can be used in the nominal
diameter range of more than 100 mm up to 150 mm.
For this, the extension has to be pushed over the cutter drive from the cutting tool
side and fastened to the crimp sleeve of the cutter drive by means of 4 set screws
M4x6.
When using the extension DN 150, the NANOeasy tool extension must be installed!
Mounting direction
Fix the extension to the crimp sleeves of the cutter drive
using the 4 set screws M4x6

14
4.3 Start-up
-Attentively read these operating instructions
-Check the assemblies and accessories for completeness, and the media for the
required qualities
-Transport the chassis to the desired work location (shaft, inspection opening or
the like). Place the chassis in horizontal position. This is also the required
working position for the chassis, since the water separator will otherwise not
work correctly.
-Unwind the hose assembly from the cable drum (as far as necessary to be able
to apply the cutting operation); the hose assembly must not be pulled over
sharp edges or kinked
-Check the required cutter tool for imbalance (e.g. missing cutting edges; if OK,
then fasten cutter tool on the cutter motor (see 4.6.2 Changing the NANOeasy
cutter tool)
-Connect the control wheel to the cable drum (all switches on the control unit
must be switched OFF!)

control wheel

15
-The cable drum features an analogue and digital video output. Choosing
between analogue and digital video signal can be done with the changeover
switch. Attention! The analogue and digital video signal cannot be used
simultaneously. When switching to the digital video signal, neither the analogue
video socket nor the monitor on the control wheel can be used!

USB port (digital video output)

16
-Connecting the monitor to the control wheel
-Connect the cutter to the electrical supply; the LED (green) on the power supply
unit must light; otherwise the power supply assembly is defective (replacement
required)
-The camera light must be on
-Connect the supply line from the compressor to the coupling disc on the stand
-Insert the cutter drive into an auxiliary tube (approx. 0.50 m long, nominal
diameter 70 –100 mm)).
BNC video connection Monitor power supply

17
Operating the device without an auxiliary pipe may irreparably
damage the bracing bladder!
-All switches on the control wheel must be in the “Off” or “Stop” position.
-Switch the compressor ON
-Put on/insert ear protectors
-Switch on the air motor and check the function of the cutter motor
-Switch off the air motor.
-Deflect the lifting unit toward to top or button using the switch on the control
wheel
-Operate the switch on the control wheel to check the function of the bracing
bladder. To do so operate the switch for the bladder and wait until the bladder
has clamped. Once the bladder has clamped completely set the switch to relief
and wait until the bladder has relieved its tension. The middle position (stop) of
the switch for the bracing bladder fixes the current pressure and thus the actual
position.

4.4 Operation during work
4.4.1 Operating the IMS cutter NANOeasy
-Carefully insert the cutter drive into the pipe
-Push the cutter drive to the work location; when sliding through bends, turn the
cutter head in the direction of curvature by rotating the supply hose and then
deflect the lifting unit so that the bend can be pushed through without using
force; in case of new pipelines apply a lubricant (e.g. Prima lubricant for
connecting sleeve systems); creases in lined pipes should be removed prior to
insertion.
-If not yet done so, brace control wheel on supply hose
-Position at the cutting point without contacting the pipe
-Turn on the switch for the bracing bladder and centre the cutter in the pipe
-Switch the cutter motor ON
-Cut away material to be removed through slow rotation, swivelling, advancing
and retracting using the control wheel
4.4.2 Recovering the cutter in case of malfunction
Under certain conditions it may no longer be possible to pull the cutter out of the pipe
or to empty the lift when the bracing bladder is inflated.
Such malfunctions occur in case of:
-Defective control wheel
-Defect in the electric system of the cutter
-Defect of directional valve(s) of the cable drum
-Power failure
-Air supply failure

20
In such cases the lifting unit and the bracing bladder need to be emptied manually.
This is realised using direction valve 1 and directional valve 2. The directional valve
are marked accordingly.
The directional valves are located inside the cable drum. To get to the directional
valves, first remove the cover plate in the centre of the cable drum using the 3
countersunk screws M4×8.
