Safety instructions
1. General
Please read, observe and follow the following safety instructions. Please save the
operating anual. Observe all the warning notices on the device and
in the operating
anual.
. Proper use
Connect the product as indicated in the operating anual. Only use the cables and
accessories provided by the anufacturer. Use only appropriate stands, brackets,
shelves and other devices for the attach ent and sup
port of the products. When
oving the support surfaces upon which products are placed, be very careful in order
to avoid injuries and da age resulting fro falling products.
3. Moisture
Select a location for the product which does no
t have a high level of relative hu idity.
Never use this device near water. Wetness can bypass the electrical insulation and
thus present a fatal danger, as it can for all devices not specially designed to be
water-resistant. The devices ay not be exposed
to dripping or sprayed water. No
objects ay be placed on the devices, especially those which are filled with water or
other liquids (e.g. vases, etc.).
4. Protecting the product
Do not under any circu stances expose the devices to high levels of hu idit
y.
Extre e te perature fluctuations, hu idity and extended exposure to light can
da age the devices and alter their appearance. Make sure that no foreign objects
or liquids enter the device.
5. Positioning
Do not position the product near sources of he
at, heaters, heating valves, ovens or
other devices which generate heat. Never block the ventilation slots on the devices.
The devices ay only be stored and operated in a te perature range fro +15 to
+30°C.
The device heats up during operation. To prevent unnecessary activation of the over-
te perature shutdown feature, the device ust be allowed proper air circulation.
Products without a agnetic shield ay discolour or distort a nearby television. A
distance of 0.5 or greater is nor ally sufficient to
prevent such disturbances. Most
televisions have a built-
in correction circuit for such occurrences. When these devices
are switched off and switched on again a few inutes later, the picture should be
largely corrected.
Do not place credit cards or oth
er agnetic data carriers on the device; the
infor ation saved on the could be destroyed.

6. Grounding / Earthing
Caution! The decoupling filters of the AC-
A3016 cause increased heat losses. For
this reason, the device ust only be plugged into sockets (grounded/earthed
outlets) with a properly functioning protective earth!
7. Connection
The device ay only be connected to the ains voltage which is indicated on the
device (pos. 6)! I proper handling of the ains voltage ay cause fatal injuries!
All cables ust be positioned in such a wa
y that there is no danger of the being
da aged (e.g. being stepped on, placed under furniture or spikes underneath
loudspeakers). Never re ove cables by pulling the cable; instead, always hold
the plug when disconnecting.
When the device is in stand-by
ode, it is not co pletely disconnected fro the
ains, as is indicated on the LED on the front. In order to avoid unnecessary
risks and energy consu ption during extended absences, the ains switch on
the back of the device should be switched off and the
ains plug should be
disconnected.
The ains plug and the ains on/off switch for the device should be easily
accessible.
8. Overload
In cases of extre e overload, it is possible for individual co ponents to burn
through despite ultiple fuses. It is also
theoretically possible (although we are
not aware of any such incidents) that such overload could cause a fire to ignite
inside of the device. Therefore, you should not leave the devices unattended
when operating an at extre ely high level.
9. Maintenance
All service work on the devices should be perfor ed exclusively by service
personnel. Servicing is necessary for all types of da age, i.e. if cables and plugs
are da aged, if liquid spills into or objects fall onto the device, if the device is
dropped or
falls down, if foreign objects enter the device, if the device is exposed
to rain or hu idity or if any other influences should i pair the device fro
functioning properly.
Opening the housing is strictly prohibited, as the co ponents and conductors
ay carry potentially fatal voltage!

10. Fuses
All necessary fuses have been integrated in the device. These fuses ay only be
changed by qualified service technicians. In doing so, all specified fuse values
ust be observed. If the replaced fuse blows i ediately, the device sho
uld be
handed in to be serviced. No liability is accepted for da age caused by
unauthorised intervention or incorrect fuse types.
11. Care
Unplug the active power distributor before cleaning it. Always clean the product

Connection
CAUTION: The active power distributor is equipped with safety features (see pages11- 12)
which ay
cause all connected co ponents to be switched off suddenly! In certain circu stances, this could
da age co ponents or result in the loss of data. It is IMPERATIVE that table 1 on page 10
is observed
in order to deter ine which co ponents ay not be suitable for use with the device or which ay be
at risk of being da aged.
1. Before connecting the AC-
A3016 active power distributor, please switch off all co ponents
and un-plug the respective ains plugs.
2. If your syste already has a power strip, please re ove it.
3.
Position the active power distributor next to your other co ponents. The active power
distributor ay not be covered and should be sufficiently ventilated (refer to Set-
up
on page 6). Note the length of the cables of the other co ponents which will be connected
to the active power distributor. The cables should be sufficient in length and ay not be
cri ped, crushed or stretched under too uch tension.
4. The AC-A3016 is equipped with 4 groups, each with 2 sockets (ite s 7-
10). Every group
can be assigned to a special filter (page 14) perfectly tailored to device characteristics.
The following filters are available: Filter Off | High Power | Analogue |
Digital | Group D |
Video. The groups can also be switched off individually (page 15).
Please note that socket groups B, C and D can each be loaded with a axi u of 4 a pere
(4A / 920 W in total - distributed to two sockets)..
The device categories ar
e described in ore detail on page 10. You can find an exa ple
on page 21 and a table where you can plan the device connections and the preset
configurations on page 23.
The voltage regulators for groups B - C – D can be loaded with a axi u of 920 W/4
A.
The peak current here is 25 a pere.
5. Plug the ains power cable (ite 4) of the active power distributor into a wall socket.
CAUTION: It is imperative that the phase orientation on the mains plug is observed!
The pin on the SAFETY socket with
the white indicator dot MUST be connected in
phase. Non-
compliance will significantly reduce the functionality and performance
of the active power distributor.
An active screening tester has been supplied in order to deter ine the phase of the power
socket (see page 13). If in doubt, please consult a qualified electrician.
6. Before you start running all co ponents now, please check again the whole installation of
your co ponents.

Power rating
The active power distributor was developed for the operation of hi-
fi and video devices. Its core co ponent
is a sophisticated power controller, which stabilises the voltage to the plug sockets (pos. 7 –
10). In
principle, the controller (group A) regulates outputs of up to 3600 W / 16A. The controller can even handle
short current spikes exceeding 100 a ps, which ay be produced when connected co ponents are
switched on. The voltage regulators for groups B-C-D can be loaded with a axi u of 920 W/4
A.
The peak current here is 25 a pere.
Heat which is generated during continuous high-
output operation is largely dissipated through an integrated
cooling syste . The axi u average power output of the active p
ower distributor is dependent on the
a bient air te perature, ventilation and the effective ains voltage. Prolonged, extre ely high-
output
operation (i.e. average power output too high) can cause the power distributor to reach the te perature
li it, at which point it will switch off ( ore under Safety features on page 12).
The following diagra is
intended to provide a better understanding of how the active power distributor's power-
handling capacity is
dependent on ti e:
Devices have different perfor ance characteristics. We differentiate be
tween devices with high and low, as
well as constant and dyna ic power consu ption. For exa ple, the power consu ption of a plifiers is high
but dyna ic. Thus, the average power output of a 1000 W a plifier ay “only” a ount to 100 W at very
high levels. I
n other words, large a plifiers have lower power consu ption and nor ally do not pose a
proble , even during prolonged operation. In contrast, a hotplate has a high and constant power output,
which eans it has a high average power output. These perfor ance characteristics are shown in table 1
on
page 10
(household appliances and electric achines have been listed in order to help provide a better
understanding).

Operating
After you have ade all connections and inspected the , switch-on the AC-
A3016 active
power distributor at the ain switch (pos. 5). The device is now in stand-
by ode and the
red LED (pos. 2) is lit. Activate the power distributor by pressing the stand-by button (
pos.
1), the red LED goes out. The blinking of the green LED indicator (pos. 1) signals the switch
-
on delay. After approx. one inute,
the active power distributor's power sockets are switched
on and the connected co ponents are supplied with power.
Note:
The active power distributor requires approx. 15
inutes after a cold start (first ti e it is
switched on after being disconnected fro the ains) in order to reach its operating
te perature, to bias all electronic operation points and to stabilise the output voltage
at the
plug sockets (pos. 7 – 10) to 230 V.
Only then will the active power distributor have reached its full perfor ance level. To
facilitate this process, the active power distributor is equipped with an integrated heater
which helps to stabilise the internal voltage reference in ter s of te perature.
During the war -
up phase, the voltage at the plug sockets on the active power distributor
can be slightly higher than 230V, but still within standard ains tolerance. This poses no
proble for the connected devices.
If you would like to ake an A-
B co parison with another ains distributor (e.g. your old
power strip), you should first allow the AC-
A2016 active power distributor to reach its
operating te perature..
Safety features
The active power distributor has various process-
controlled safety features, which protect
both the connected devices as well as the active power distributor itself.
1. Normal operation:
The LED indicator (pos. 3) continuously lights up in green during nor al operation.
. Over-voltage protection:
The active power distributor suppresses short voltage spikes, and thus protects the connected
devices. Caution: The active power distributor is NOT equipped with a lightning arrestor!
If the ains voltage fro the wall socket is too high over a prolonged period
(>245V),
thus putting the active power distributor and connected devices at risk, the active
power distributor will switch off the plug sockets (pos. 7 – 10).
The essage "Mains voltage too high" appears in the display (ite 11).

12
Operating anual
AC
-
A3016
3. Under-voltage protection:
If the ains voltage fro the wall socket is too low over a prolonged period (< 215V),
thus
co pro ising the perfor ance of the active power distributor, the device will switch off the
plug sockets (pos. 7 – 10).
The essage "Mains voltage too low" appears in the display (ite
11).
4. Over-temperature protection:
The active power distributor is equipped with a fan to facilitate the dissipation of heat during
high-
output operation. This fan is regulated by the te perature of the device. If the fan cannot
provide sufficient cooling because the operating te perature is too high, the device is not
properly positioned or output is too high over a prolonged period (diagra 1, page 9), the
active power distributor can switch off. In order to allow counter easures to be carried out
(e.g. switching off co ponents not in use, lowerin
g the volu e), fro 65°C the te perature is
auto atically indicated. If, however, the active power distributor still beco es too hot
(>75°C), the sockets are switched off and the essage "Device too hot" appears in the
display. Once the te perature drops below 65°C, the sockets switch on again and the device
can be operated nor ally.
5. Overload protection:
If the active power distributor reaches its axi u output li it, it will switch off. This ay
result fro connecting too any devices when the overall output exceeds 3600 W or if the
active power distributor has to co pensate for excessive differences in voltage due to
insufficient power supply fro the wall socket. In this case, the essage "Output too high"
appears in the display.
6. Current-limit control:
If devices are connected which require a starting current that is too high (> 100 A ps), the
active power distributor will atte pt to activate the connected device via the integrated
current li iter. You ay hear the internal relays clicking when this happens. If this atte pt
should fail, the active power distributor switches the sockets off and the essage "Current too
high" appears in the display.
7. Bridge mode:
The power distributor is equipped with a bridge ode to protect the voltage regulators fro
critical loads. It is auto atically activated if the axi u per issible peak current is
exceeded, e.g. when a large a plifier is connected. The active power distributor returns to
nor al operation after approxi ately 3 in.
This ode is also active for 3 in. after switching on the syste .
