Preface
iv Intermec EasyLAN Network Setup—User's Guide
Introduction
The EasyLAN Network Setup is a PC configuration wizard that
facilitates the connection of an EasyCoder printer to a wired or wireless
network. In simple terms, what you can do is this:
• Connect a printer to the PC via a serial communication channel.
• Start the wizard.
• Select or find out which type of firmware the printer is using
(Fingerprint or IPL).
• Establish the communication (port, baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and
parity).
• Set up parameters for wireless communication.
• Set up the printer’s IP parameters (applies to both Ethernet and
wireless communication).
• Review the settings.
• Upload the settings to the printer and, optionally, save the
configuration on a CompactFlash memory card inserted in the
printer.
Supported Platforms
The EasyLAN Network Setup wizard supports these platforms:
• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
• Microsoft Windows XP
• Microsoft Windows 2000
• Microsoft Windows NT 4
• Microsoft Windows Me
• Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 (or higher) is required
Printer Firmware and Hardware
The printer must either be running Intermec Fingerprint v8.10 (or later)
or IPL v2.10 (or later). An EasyLAN Ethernet or EasyLAN Wireless
interface must be installed.

Chapter 2—Running the EasyLAN Network Setup
Establish a Serial Communication
• Select the type of firmware (IPL or Fingerprint), port, and baud
rate in the drop-down list boxes. If you do not know the baud rate
in Fingerprint, select “Don't know” and the wizard will check it
automatically.
• If you have selected IPL, or if you have selected Fingerprint and
checked the Advanced box, you must enter the exact parameters.
To read the communication setup, press the <i> key on the printer’s
keyboard, also see the User’s Guide of the printer.

• Next, the “Login” screen is shown.
If the printer accepts the credentials entered by the user, which screen
will be shown next depends on the type of EasyLAN:
- EasyLAN Ethernet: “Set IP Parameters” (see page 16)
- EasyLAN Wireless: “Use Configuration on CompactFlash”
or “Set SSID and WEP Keys” (see page 12)
depending on configuration
• Place the cursor in the appropriate text boxes and type your User

Use Configuration on CompactFlash
• The EasyLAN Network Setup wizard allows configuration files to be
stored on CompactFlash memory cards, see later in this chapter. If
such a card is detected in the printer, it is possible to load the file and
reuse the settings.
Set SSID and WEP Keys
• This screen is used for configuration of parameters related to wireless
communication (IEEE 802.11b).
The following parameters and options are available:
- SSID (Service Set Identifier):
A 32-character unique identifier that differentiates one wireless
LAN from another when they overlap in regard of frequency and
coverage area. Default is INTERMEC.
- Enable WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy):
If checked, the “WEP key 1-4”, the “Active key”, and the option
“Keys entered in hexadecimal format” are enabled.

Intermec EasyLAN Network Setup—User's Guide 13
Chapter 2—Running the EasyLAN Network Setup
- Keys entered in hexadecimal format:
Specifies if “WEP keys 1-4” are to be entered in hexadecimal
format instead of alphanumeric.
- WEP key 1-4:
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is a data encryption method used
to protect the transmission between IEEE 802.11b wireless stations
and access points. Here you can configure four different encryption
keys. Both WEP 64 and WEP 128 are supported.
- Active key:
Select which WEP key that is going to be used in transmissions. By
default, WEP is disabled and no keys are configured.
• Click Next> to continue.

is located, check the Set Country/Region box and select the desired
Country/Region in the drop-down list box. Enter the secret unlock
code (authorized personnel only) and click Next>.
The EasyLAN Wireless radio module is country/region
specific and must be set for the correct country/region. Use
in any other region may violate applicable law.

supports DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and/or
BOOTP (Bootstrap Protocol), or you can specify the IP Address,
Network Mask, Default Router, and Name Server manually. Then
click the Next> button.
