InvoTek BlueTalk User manual

BlueTalk User Manual
Thank you for purchasing BlueTalk! BlueTalk is a Bluetooth hub which,
when paired with InvoTek’s MultiAccess Android app, enables the user
to control up to two personal electronic devices via one input device.
The Android input device runs InvoTek’s MultiAccess Android app. This
app provides an on-screen keyboard and cursor control and enables
the user to select which connected device to control. When the user
makes a keyboard selection or cursor movement in MultiAccess, the
command is sent via Bluetooth to the selected device through
BlueTalk. To the connected devices, BlueTalk looks like a normal
Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse. In addition,
BlueTalk displays text from MultiAccess on a
forward-facing LCD and plays text-to-speech
through the built-in speakers.
Left Side of BlueTalk 2
Input Switches
There are two switch jacks and buttons labeled SW1 and SW2. Users
can connect input switches here to perform switch scanning within the
MultiAccess app. MultiAccess provides sophisticated settings to
improve switch access for a user. BlueTalk accepts any 3.5mm mono
switch output, such as a push-button switch or the output of a Sip-and-
Puff switch. The small buttons beside each switch jack are there for
convenience to test the functionality of switches during setup –
pressing a button is identical to activating its associated switch.

Relay Output
The jack labeled “Relay” allows the user to connect wired devices such
as a nurse call button. The relay is activated through the MultiAccess
app. The relay supports a maximum of 1 amp of current and 30 volts
DC. Exceeding these specifications may damage BlueTalk.
Audio Jack
The jack labeled “Audio” is a 3.5mm headphone jack. When
headphones are connected, all audio is routed to the headphones
instead of through the built-in speakers. By using headphones,
communication between partners can become more private.
Charging Port
The Micro-B USB jack labeled “CHG” is used to charge the device.
When the provided USB cable is connected and powered, the device
will charge. On the front of BlueTalk is a battery symbol with four LEDs
that display the current battery status. When the device is charging,
the battery LED corresponding to the charge level will blink.
On/Off Switch
The switch labeled “ON” is the on/off switch. To turn the device on,
slide the switch upward.

Vol+/Vol- Buttons
These buttons control the volume of the built-in speakers and
headphones when connected. The current volume setting is displayed
on the LCD when a button is pressed.
Contrast
The “Contrast” knob adjusts the contrast of the front LCD panel.
Unpair Button
This button is used to disconnect BlueTalk from all Bluetooth devices.
This includes forgetting all the devices which BlueTalk attempts to
reconnect to on power up. To do so, hold down the Unpair button for
three seconds until a long beep is heard.

Built-In Speakers
BlueTalk has two built-in, forward facing speakers which can be used
to play text-to-speech from MultiAccess. BlueTalk supports dynamic
volume control, which automatically adjusts the volume of the
speakers to keep the audio output at a constant level above the
ambient noise. This can be enabled in MultiAccess.
Bluetooth Logo LED
An LED behind the Bluetooth logo will glow blue when BlueTalk is
paired and connected to MultiAccess.
Battery Symbol
The battery symbol has four LEDs that display the battery power status.
When the device is charging, the LED corresponding to the charge level
will blink.

Pairing BlueTalk to Devices 6
1) Turn on BlueTalk.
2) On your phone/tablet/computer, navigate to the device’s
Bluetooth settings. Ensure your device’s Bluetooth is turned on.
3) In your device’s settings, scan for available Bluetooth devices.
Look for a device named “BlueTalk”and select it.
If “BlueTalk”fails to show up as an available device, turn
your device’s Bluetooth off then back on. Then re-scan
for available devices.
If that doesn’t work, turn BlueTalk off then back on and
re-scan for available Bluetooth devices on your device.
4) If you are connecting to a device that will be controlled with
MultiAccess, the connecting process is complete. If you are
connecting to your input device running MultiAccess, finish the
connection process by opening MultiAccess. In the top right
corner, click the three dots for the menu. In the menu, click
“Connect to BlueTalk”. At this point, the Bluetooth logo LED on
the front of BlueTalk will glow blue and within a few seconds
any devices connected to BlueTalk will be listed in the device
bar in MultiAccess (e.g, Nexus 7, ERIK-THINK, and BlueTalk in
Figure 5).
Using BlueTalk with MultiAccess 7
BlueTalk works seamlessly with MultiAccess to enable you to control
multiple personal electronic devices using one input device. Start by
connecting the devices to be controlled by following the steps listed in
the Pairing BlueTalk to Devices section. Then open MultiAccess on your
input device. The names of the devices you connected will be shown in
the device list. Figure 5 shows a screen shot of MultiAccess with three
connected devices: Nexus 7, ERIK-THINK, and BlueTalk. BlueTalk is
selected as the device to control, indicated by green highlighting. Any
keyboard selections will be sent to the BlueTalk LCD. The Relay button,
found next to the space bar, will activate BlueTalk’s relay output. The
Vol+ and Vol- keys, located on the right side of the keyboard, control
the volume of BlueTalk’s built-in speakers or headphones if connected.
BlueTalk supports sophisticated switch input filtering, including
recognizing a switch activation on switch press or release and requiring
a minimum switch press or release time before recognizing a switch
activation. The switch control options for BlueTalk are in the
MultiAccess menu, accessible by the three dots in the upper right
corner of the app under the menu option “Set Switch Settings”.
