reused or returned to the raw material system.
1. General safety information
Caution! When using electric tools it is imperati-
ve to take the following basic safety precautions
in order to reduce the risk of electric shock,
injury and fire. Read and take note of these
instructions before you use this tool.
1. Keep your work area tidy
- An untidy work area invites accidents.
2. Check the working conditions
- Do not expose electric tools to rain. Never use
electric tools in damp or wet locations. Make sure
there is good lighting. Do not use electric tools
near flammable liquids or gases.
3. Guard against electric shock

5. Store tools in a safe place
- When tools are not in use they should be stored
in a dry, locked room out of children’s reach.
6. Do not overload your tools
- Tools work better and safer when used within
their quoted capacity range.
7. Use the right tool
- Never use tools or attachments with insufficient
power for the job in hand. Never use tools on
jobs for which they were not intended.
8. Wear suitable work clothes
- Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they
may get caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves
and non-slip shoes are recommended when wor-

you stand squarely and keep your balance at all
times.
12. Look after your tools
- Keep your tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow the instructions for
maintenance work and for changing any attach-
ments. Check the plug and cable regularly and, if
damaged, have them replaced by an authorized
specialist. Check the extension cable regularly
and replace it if damaged. Keep handles dry and
free from oil and grease.
13. Always pull out the power plug
- when the tool is not being used, before carrying
out any maintenance work and when changing
attachments such as blades, bits and cutters of
any kind.
14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches
- Make sure that all keys and adjusting wrenches
are removed from the tool before switching it on.
15. Avoid unintentional starting
- Never carry a tool with your finger on the switch

17. Be alert at all times
- Watch what you are doing. Use common sense.
Do not operate the tool if your mind is not on your
work.

wear ear-muffs or similar.
Keep these safety instructions in a safe
place.
Specific safety information

for use carefully and be sure to follow the instructions
to the letter.
1. Always remove the power plug from the socket-
outlet before you perform any work on the
hedge trimmer, e.g.
- repairing a damaged cable
- cleaning the blades

or before leaving the tool unattended.
2. The hedge trimmer can cause serious injuries!
Read the directions for use carefully in order to
acquaint yourself with the correct way to hand-

branches or the like, switch off and unplug the
hedge trimmer immediately. Only then are you
to remove the cause of the obstruction.
19. Keep the hedge trimmer in a dry place out of
children’s reach.
20. During transportation and storage of the hedge

blades in pairs. If the hedge trimmer suffers any
damage from impact (falling on hard ground
etc.), have it checked immediately by a specia-
list.
24. Look after your hedge trimmer carefully. Keep it
clean and sharp to ensure efficient and safe
cutting. Follow the maintenance and cleaning
instructions.
25. Do not use the hedge trimmer with a damaged
or excessively worn cutting system.
26. Never try to work with an incomplete machine
or a machine with unapproved modifications.
27. Check your surroundings and take note of any
potential dangers which you may not be able
hear due to the machine’s noise.
28. It is advisable not to use the hedge trimmer
when other persons, and particularly children,
are nearby.
29. Noise at the workplace may exceed 85 dB(A).
In this case, the operator must wear ear-muffs
or similar. The noise level of this electric tool is

6. Voltage
The machine can only be run on single-phase alter-
nating current with 230V ~ 50Hz a.c. voltage. Before
you use the machine for the first time, check that the
mains voltage is the same as the operating voltage
shown on the machine rating plate.
7. Using for the first time and operation
Important! This hedge trimmer is designed for the
trimming of hedges, bushes and shrubs. If it is used
for any other purpose not expressly permitted by
these operating instructions there may be a risk of
damage to the hedge trimmer or serious injury to the
user. The hedge trimmer comes with a two-hand
safety switch. It only works if the switch on the guide
handle (Fig. 2 / Item 1) is pressed with one hand and
either the switch on top of the handle (Fig. 2 / Item 2)
or the switch below the handle (Fig. 2 / Item 3) is
pressed with the other hand.
Releasing any of the switches will bring the hedge
trimmer to a stop.
Please watch out for the cutters as they slow
down to a standstill.
- Please check that the cutters work properly.
The twin-bladed cutters rotate in opposite direc-
tions, thus guaranteeing high cutting perfor-
mance and smooth operation.
- Before use, fasten the extension cable in the
Anleitung GLH 661 GB 24.01.2006 8:50 Uhr Seite 7

8
cable strain relief clip (see Fig. 4).
- When working outdoors, use extension cables
that are approved for the purpose.
8. Tips on use
쎲The hedge trimmer can be used not only for trim-
ming hedges but for trimming shrubs and bushes
as well.
쎲For optimum trimming performance, guide the
blade teeth at an angle of approx. 15° to the
hedge (see Fig. 5).
쎲Since the blades cut on both sides and run in
opposite directions to each other, you can trim in
both directions (see Fig. 6).
쎲To achieve a hedge with a uniform height it is
recommended that you stretch a piece of string
along the edge of the hedge for guidance. Then
simply cut away all twigs projecting above the
line (see Fig. 7).
쎲The sides of the hedge should be trimmed with
arc-type movements from below upwards (see
Fig. 8).
9. Care, maintenance and storage
쎲Always switch off the machine and pull the plug
before you start to clean the machine.
쎲For optimum results at all times you should regu-
larly clean and lubricate the blades. Remove any
deposits with a brush and apply a light film of oil
(see Fig. 9).
Use biologically degradable oil.
쎲Clean the plastic body with gentle domestic clea-
ning agent and a damp cloth. Never use aggres-
sive media or solvents.
쎲It is imperative that you prevent water from pene-
trating the machine. Never spray the machine
down with water.
쎲For storage purposes the hedge trimmer can be
fastened to the wall with suitable screws and
dowels (see Fig. 10).
10. Faults
쎲The machine does not start: Check that the
power cable is correctly connected and check
the mains fuses. If the machine still does not
work even with connected voltage, please send it
to the specified customer services address.
11. Disposal
Important!
The hedge trimmer and its accessories are made of
a diversity of materials such as, e.g. metal and plas-
tic.
Defective parts must be disposed of as special
waste. Ask your specialist dealer or local authority for
details about where they can be disposed of!

cement parts:

Never place any electric tools in your household refuse.
To comply with European Directive 2002/96/EC concerning old electric and electronic equipment and its
implementation in national laws, old electric tools have to be separated from other waste and disposed of
in an environment-friendly fashion, e.g. by taking to a recycling depot.
Recycling alternative to the demand to return electrical devices:
As an alternative to returning the electrical device, the owner is obliged to cooperate in ensuring that the
device is properly recycled if ownership is relinquished. This can also be done by handing over the used
device to a returns center, which will dispose of it in accordance with national commercial and industrial
waste management legislation. This does not apply to the accessories and auxiliary equipment without
any electrical components which are included with the used device.
