Refreshing the Slate: If you notice that your drawing has incomplete or missing marks,
refresh the Slate by pressing and holding the Refresh button for 2-3 seconds (see
Technical Diagram) until the blue LED blinks red.
CHARGING THE SLATE
The Slate’s battery may be drained when you receive it. Be sure to charge the Slate
before using it for the first time.
Charge your Slate by connecting it a PC | Mac® with the included USB cable.
The time to charge a completely drained battery via USB connection is approximately
3 hours.

To determine the battery charge when turning on the Slate, check the upper LED:
Three orange blinks: battery charge between 66% and 100%
Two orange blinks: battery charge between 33% and 66%
One orange blink: battery charge between 0% and 33%
Rapid red blinks: battery critically low –below 10%
Your Slate only charges when connected to a PC | Mac that is switched on.
You can use your Slate when it is connected to a PC | Mac via USB cable. We
recommend:
Not using the Slate while it is charging for the first time
Charging the Slate completely via the included USB cable before using it for the
first time
UPDATING THE SLATE
For an optimal The Slate update takes place through the iSketchnote app
while your Slate is connected to your PC | Mac via USB.
The iskn team is working continuously to improve the Slate’s firmware in order to
provide you with a powerful and fluid user experience.
To check for the latest Slate update, follow the steps below.
Automatic update of your Slate from a PC | Mac:
1. Open the iSketchnote app.
2. Connect the Slate to your Mac or PC via the USB cable provided.
3. Switch on the Slate. Move the central slider to the upper USB | Bluetooth
connection position. The Slate is ready to use when the upper LED shines blue.

4. A pop-up will appear if an update is available. Click Yes to update the Slate.
5. Click OK to close the window when the update is complete.

INSTALLING THE iSKETCHNOTE APP
You must have an Internet connection in order to install the iSketchnote app.
To download the iSketchnote app on your iPad®, visit Apple’s App Store.
Three versions of the iSketchnote app have been developed:
iSketchnote App for iPad & iPad mini 3 and up available on the App Store
iSketchnote App for Windows
iSketchnote App for Mac
The iSketchnote app is regularly updated to correct bugs and add new features.

THE iSKETCHNOTE APP
The iSketchnote app has 3 modes:
Live
Use the app’s Live mode to see the
digitization of your drawings as you
write and draw on paper. You can also
change the color, thickness and opacity
of your pen, digitally erase unwanted
marks and share your creations with
friends and loved ones.
Helpful Tips: Live mode
When your pen is detected near the Slate, its color is automatically recognized and
appears on the sticker at the bottom left of the app
Discover the Magic Fill brush effect: a preview of the many brushes to come
There is no need to adjust your Slate’s position to your screen: with the Rotate function,
you can draw in portrait layout and see the result in landscape layout:

Post Production
Use Post Production mode to edit and
enhance your creations once you have
finished writing and drawing on paper.
Change elements of your drawing,
erase marks or blocks of text, and
share your creations with friends and
loved ones.
Helpful Tips: Post Production mode
Share your drawings in PNG or SVG format, or see a replay of your creative process and
export the video to MP4 format
Generate SVG files and import your drawings directly to 3rd-party graphic design
software
Share drawings via email or social networks
All Rolls
Use All Rolls mode to organize your
creations by managing the content of
your different rolls. Create a new roll,
reorganize a roll of drawings, move a
drawing from one roll to another, or
visualize and scroll through an entire
roll.

Export and share an entire roll as PNG files
Name and manage rolls using sticker colors and names

Set up your iPad
1. Place one corner of your iPad in a clamp.
2. Place the corner diagonal the first one in a second clamp.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the two remaining corners.

SETTING UP YOUR PAPER | NOTEBOOK
The Slate works with any kind of paper in A5 or equivalent format.
Your paper or notebook must be positioned between the four points indicating the
writing zone (see Technical Diagram). Use these points to quickly situate and position
your paper | notebook.
If your paper | notebook moves while you are using the Slate, we recommend
creating a new layer. You will then be able to adjust any resulting gaps in Post-
Production mode.

CONNECTING YOUR SLATE WITH YOUR iPad OR COMPUTER
1. CONNECTING THE SLATE TO YOUR iPad VIA BLUETOOTH
We recommend keeping the Slate and your iPad within 1 meter | 3 feet of each
other in for an optimal connection.
Make sure that your iPad’s Bluetooth® is activated.
Turn on the Slate by sliding the central button to the ON –USB | Bluetooth
Connection position until the blue LED shines continuously.
Open the iSketchnote app. The Slate and iPad will connect automatically and
the orange X will disappear from the icon:
If the Bluetooth connection between the two devices is lost, simply click the
Connection icon to reconnect them.

2. CONNECTING THE SLATE TO YOUR PC | MAC VIA USB
Switch on the Slate by placing the central slider in the ON-USB | Bluetooth
position (see Technical Diagram): the LEDs will blink.
Connect the Slate to your PC | Mac with the provided USB cable.
USING STAND-ALONE MODE
1.SETTING UP THE SLATE IN STAND-ALONE MODE
Stand-Alone mode allows you to use the Slate without an iPad or PC.
The Slate functions in Stand-Alone mode thanks to a battery and embedded
memory (extensible with a microSD card

).
To use Stand-Alone mode:
Place the central button in ON–Stand-Alone mode (see Technical Diagram).
The upper LED will shine green. You may now use the Slate in Stand-Alone
mode.
When you change the sheet of paper, you must create a new page. To create
a new page, click the New Page button (see Technical Diagram): the LEDs
will blink
To create a new layer, click the New Layer button (see Technical Diagram)

2. TRANSFERRING DATA FROM YOUR SLATE TO YOUR iPad
Your Slate does not save your drawing files. You must transfer these files to the
iSketchnote app to visualize and use them.
Data transfer takes place via Bluetooth.
To transfer your drawings, follow these steps:
1. Connect your Slate to your iPad via Bluetooth (for more information about
connecting via Bluetooth, see the following section CONNECTING THE SLATE
TO YOUR iPad VIA BLUETOOTH
2. Open the iSketchnote app. A red sticker will appear in the upper right corner
of the app screen above the SD card icon and display the number of new files
to download. Click the icon.

3. When the pop-up box appears, click Yes to import your drawings.
4. The iSketchnote app will automatically download your drawings.

5. Your drawings are imported and ready to edit in the iSketchnote app.
When you download your drawings, your Slate and SD card are emptied of
their content.
Bluetooth transfer speed is limited. Downloading your drawings can take
several minutes depending on the size of your files. For this reason, we advise
you to regularly download your drawings.
3. TRANSFERRING DATA FROM YOUR SLATE TO YOUR PC | MAC
It is not currently possible to transfer data from a microSD card via your
computer’s card reader.
Data transfer takes place via USB.
To transfer your drawings, follow these steps:
1. Connect your Slate to your PC | Mac via USB (for more information about
connecting via USB see the following section CONNECTING THE SLATE
TO YOUR PC | MAC VIA USB
2. Open the iSketchnote app. A red sticker will appear in the upper right corner
of the app screen above the SD card icon and display the number of new files
to download. Click the icon.

3. When the pop-up box appears, click Yes to import your drawings.
4. The iSketchnote app will automatically download your drawings.
Your drawings are imported and ready to edit in the iSketchnote app.

BEST PRACTICES FOR USING THE SLATE
We are dedicated to providing you the best possible Slate user experience and
therefore recommend that you take the following precautions when using the Slate:
General recommendations
Do not use the Slate while you are in motion (train, airplane, car…).

Avoid direct contact with magnetic objects (magnets, steel surfaces or bars such
as those under your table). Keep your Slate at least 10 inches or 25 centimeters
from these objects.
Use only one pen at a time.
Any iskn pens that you are not using must be kept at least 10 inches or 25
centimeters from the Slate.
Be assured that we are working to remove these limitations.
Managing your battery
Turn off your Slate if you do not intend to use it for several days.
Do not leave your Slate uncharged for long periods of time. This can reduce the
battery’s charge capacity.
Keep your Slate at a temperature between -20°C and +35°C.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If your Slate is not working correctly, make sure that:
Your Slate is on and charged
You are using the pens provided in your iSketchnote pack
Your iPad’s Bluetooth is activated
There are no magnetic objects on or around your Slate (iskn pen, telephone,
magnet, etc.)
Your Slate is connected to the iSketchnote app (the orange X does not appear
on the app’s Bluetooth connection icon)
The Slate recognizes the pen (lower LED blinks white)
Restart the app and the Slate if the problem persists
