Your IWC watch shows you the time in hours, minutes and seconds, the
moon phase, day, date, month and the year in four digits. You can meas ure
any period in seconds, minutes and hours with the integrated chronograph.
Stop times can be cumulated. The mechanical movement with automatic
winding has 39 jewels (synthetic rubies) and a power reserve of at least 44
hours when fully wound. Your Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Edition Kurt
Klaus is protected by a sapphire glass of hardness grade 9 on Mohs’ scale
that is convex on one side. Your watch is water-resistant 3 bar. In addition
to the uniqueness of its functions, mention should also be made of the sim-
plicity of operation which marks this watch out from all other complicated
watches. To ensure that this exceptional watch can continue to perform its
tasks, you must follow a few important operating instructions.

This watch has a screw-in crown. The screw-in connection (normal position,
position X) prevents unintentional adjustment of the time or the calendar,
and the watch case has double protection against penetrating water.
To release the secure crown, unscrew it by rotating it to the left, where it
automatically assumes position 0, the winding position. By depressing
the crown in position X and rotating it to the right at the same time,
it is screwed down firmly again and secured.
Winding position
In the winding position (position 0), you can also wind the automatic move-
ment by hand. The movement will start after only a few revolutions of the
crown. However, it is better to wind the movement fully with about 30 revo-
lutions of the crown, as maximum accuracy and a power reserve of about
44 hours will then be assured, even after taking off the watch.

Setting the perpetu l c lend r
Pull the crown to position 1. In this position, you can advance the perpetual
calendar in steps using the quick setting function by rotating the crown
slowly to the right. Adjustment of the perpetual calendar must not be per-
formed between 20.00 and 2.00.
Ple se note: You must not advance the perpetual calendar beyond the valid
date. The complicated movement is permanently mechanically program med
and cannot be turned back without intervening in the movement.
If, however, you have adjusted the perpetual calendar beyond the valid date,
you have two possible courses of action:
• Either you must stop the movement by pulling out the crown to position 2
until the perpetual calendar setting once more corresponds to the valid
date. This is appropriate in the event of a small forward misadjustment by
only a few days.
• Or, you must take your watch to your watchmaker, who will be able to
adjust the movement to reset the perpetual calendar. This is required in
the event of larger misadjustments.

Setting the time
Pull the crown to position 2. This will stop the movement. To ensure that the
set time is accurate to the second, it is best to stop the movement as the
seconds hand reaches 60. You can now position the minute hand exactly
on the minute line. As the hands are moved forwards past 0.00, the calendar
will advance by one more day. The automatic change sequence can be
completed and verified as the calendar advances. Please pay special
attention to the following to avoid incorrect setting, or even causing damage
to the mechanism:
• Under no circumstances must the hands be turned back between 20.00
and 2.00.
• The hands must never be turned beyond 2.00 in an anticlockwise sense.
Import nt: Although the watch is water-resistant in positions 0, 1 and 2,
the crown must nevertheless always be screwed down again for normal use
(position X).

Setting your w tch correctly
Set your watch correctly as follows:
• Release the crown by rotating it to the left.
• Wind the movement until it is fully wound (ca. 30 revolutions of the crown).
• Pull the crown to position 2 and set the hands forwards to about 4.40.
This will ensure that the calendar mechanism is outside the automatic
change phase, and that you can see the calendar displays clearly at the
same time.
• Push the crown to position 0 and then pull the crown back to position 1.
• Rotate the crown slowly forwards. The calendar will now advance in
steps. Set yesterday’s date, also making sure that the month and year
are correct.
• Pull the crown to position 2. This will stop the movement. For setting the
time accurately to the second, it is best to bring the movement to a stop
as the seconds hand passes over 60.
• Turn the hands forwards until the date indicator changes to today’s date.
The hands are now between 0.00 and 1.00.
• ow set the hands by moving them forwards to the precise time; in the
afternoon, the hands must be turned past 12.00 (noon) once again. Push
the crown back to position 0 to start the watch movement.
• ow push the crown to position X and secure it by rotating it to the right
at the same time.
The entire calendar is now correctly set, completely and automatically.
There is no need for you to know whether you are in a leap year or the cur-
rent phase of the moon. You do not even need to set the day of the week.
This simplified setting is very convenient, particularly if you have not worn
your IWC watch for a few days.

Oper ting the chronogr ph
St rt: Start the chronograph by pressing the start-stop button.
Stop: Stop the chronograph by pressing the start-stop button again.
Resetting: Press the reset button. This will cause all the chronograph hands
to fly back to the zero position.
Aggreg te time recording: You can add the stop times together by
pressing the start-stop button again, instead of the reset button, after
taking the first measurement.
Seconds counter: The graduation for the central seconds stop hand is
situated at the edge of the dial.
Minutes counter: The 30-minute graduation with a slow jumping hand
is situated at 12.00 on the measurement indicator. This hand makes two
complete revolutions in one hour.
Hours counter: The 12-hour graduation is situated at 6.00 on the
measurement indicator.

Setting when crossing time zones:
• When crossing time zones in an easterly direction, you should simply set
the time forwards to the new local time.
• If time zones are crossed in a westerly direction, you can set the hands
of your watch backwards to the actual time of day. When doing this,
however, you must not exceed the end of the change phase of the per-
petual calendar, that is to say 2.00. If this situation occurs, when travelling
to the west, you must set the local time of your destination before 20.00.
Under no circumstances may the hands be turned back between 20.00
and 2.00.
Crossing time zones nd d telines

Setting when crossing the Intern tion l D teline:
• When crossing the International Dateline in a westerly direction (you enter
the next day, regardless of the time of day), you should simply set the
time forwards to the new local time, and the date change will take place
automatically.
• When crossing the International Dateline in an easterly direction (you enter
the previous day, regardless of the time of day), you must likewise set
your watch forwards to the new local time. However, your watch
will now indicate the wrong date (one day too many). This incorrect date
indication can be corrected by resetting the hands twice, by twelve
hours on each occasion:
• By performing the first resetting by twelve hours during the afternoon
between 14.00 and 20.00, you will prevent the perpetual calendar from
indexing forward at midnight.
• By performing the second resetting by twelve hours on the following
morning between 2.00 and 11.00, the date indication will again be
synchronous with the local date.
Re ding the time in the d rk
The dial as well as the hour and minute hands of your watch are provided
with luminous elements which permit the time to be read without problem,
even in total darkness.

W ter-resist nce
The water-resistance of IWC watches is stated in bar, and not in metres.
Metres, as often used elsewhere in the watch industry to indicate the water-
resistance, cannot be equated with the dive depth of a dive because of the
test procedures that are frequently used. Metres also do not permit any
conclusions to be drawn about the actual uses in the presence of moisture,
wetness and in or under the water. Recommended uses in conjunction
with the water-resistance of your watch can be found on the Internet at
www.iwc.com/water-resistance. Your authorized IWC Official Agent will
also be pleased to provide you with information.
In order to ensure its perfect function, your watch must be tested by an
IWC service point at least once a year. Testing must also be performed after
exposure to exceptional stresses. If these tests are not performed as
stipulated, or if the watch is opened by unauthorized persons, IWC will
decline any warranty or liability claims.
Recommend tion: Your authorized IWC Official Agent must carry out a
water-resistance test whenever your IWC watch is opened and serviced.

evertheless, a number of parts are subject to natural wear and tear. It is
particularly important to ensure that points at which wear occurs are always
optimally lubricated and that contamination of the oil caused by metal-to-
metal abrasion is regularly removed. This is why we recommend that you have
a maintenance service carried out on your watch bout every five ye rs.
