Your machine may be fitted with any one of several types of electrical plugs (see plugs in parts
book, Page
30). Most machines are equipped with a terminal block. The block accepts different
pin arrangements depending upon the plug you use. When fnstalling any plug, make sure that the
grounding/locking screw
is properly connected and tight.
FOR OPERATOR'S SAFETY, MACHINE MUST BE GROUNDED.

On three phase machines, make sure the machine is rotating in direction of arrow on fan cover.
Reversing any of two wires in the circuit will change direction of rotation.
CAUTION
OPERATION OF A THREE PHASE MACHINE IN THE WRONG DIRECTION WILL
DAMAGE THE MACHINE.

NOTE:Q
If the motor is stopped when the sharpener
has been activated, it is recomm ended that
the drive pulley be released by squeezing
the l eve r on the pulley hous ing. The l ever
can be re l eased r e-engaging the s harp e ner
as soon as the motor comes up to speed .

OPERATION OF
SHARPENER
Toke machine out of material and lower the
presserfoot. Slowly squeeze half nut lever.
Too quick a motion can preve nt unit from
operating. If sharpene r unit fail s to drop,
cautiously push dow n on lower unit as half
nut l ever is activated. This condition some-
times occurs in new mach in es when they ore
cold. As the machine warms up, the unit
should drop normally .
Holding the half nut lever in position will
cause the lower unit to stop at the bottom of
the blade. This should only be done if it is
n
ecessary to round the bottom of the blade
or to achieve on ex tra edge at the bottom of
th e blade.

MAINTENANCE
TO CHANGE THE
SHARPENING BELTS
To remove belts, cu t or tear old be lts and

Rotate

of stroke. Use allen wrench supplied, and
loosen knife locking screw (Part Number
2465003) . Lay machine on its side and re -
move blade through bottom of base. Clean
kni fe sl ide th oroughly with the slot cleaner
suppli ed and if necessary an air hose . Insert
a new blade and tighten locking screw.

MONTHLY
Thoroughly cl ean mac hi ne. Remove s harp-
e ner and r emove any li nt or dust from slide
bo x. Make sure that s harpener drive bars
are clean and free of any matter of thread,
lint , etc. Then, as n eeded, add oil to res-
ervoir whe n oil le ve l falls be l ow si ght glass.
Using any oth er than Gu ry Comet oiI may
result in damage to your mac hine and will
void the wa rrant y.
LUBRICATING

ADJUSTMENT OF THE
PRESSERFOOT BAR LOCK
To adjust for slippage or after installing a
new loc k, insert a li en w rench in hole in
front of sharpener hous ing. Th en press re-
lease le ver an d tighten allen screw until
re lea se l ever remains down . Then loosen
allen screw until release le ve r jumps. De -
press l
ever and re-tighten a li en screw thre e
quarters of a turn. Release lever can be re -
positioned by loosening cap nut on lo ck shaft.
REMOVAL OF SHARPENER
R emove th e dri ve pulley co ver and the screws
ho ld ing the dr i ve housing s support bracket.
Then remove the four scre ws that hold the
sharpener to the machine. Grasp the sharp -
ener housing and sq u eeze th e l eve r on the
drive housing so the dr ive pulle y wi II c lear
the motor case. The sharpener then can be
pulled straight away from the machin e.
ADJUSTMENT OF THE
LOWER UNIT POSITION.
The lo wer unit sho ul d stop so that the top
idl er pu ll ey is appro xima tel y 1 .5mm (l/16
inch) belo w flange of sta nda rd . To adjust,
turn on machine and star t sharpener. Whe n
sharp ene r is near bo ttom of cyc le, turn off
machi ne. Turnthe knurled sleeve on the end
of the stop bar in th e direction y ou want to
ad just lower unit. Re l ease sharpener drive
by pressing le ver on drive unit . Turn ma -
c
hine on and re-engag e sharpener dri ve.
ADJUSTMENT OF THE
PULLEY BRAKE
Ad just pull ey bra ke so that pull ey has no
back la sh, then t ig hten l/4 turn more .

REPLACEMENT OF PRESSERFOOT LOCK
This is only required if presserfoot bar con-
tinues to slip after adjustment. Remove the
sharpener (see sketch) and remove keyhole
plate from back of the sharpener. Remove
3/8-24 a lien screw . Remove presserfoot bar
housing. Rotate loc k holders so slot is lined
up with holes in front and back. Old lock
can be removed by driving out with a small
screw driver or its equal.
CAUTION:
If presserfoot lock housing has been removed
from the keyhole p lat e, it wi II be necessary
to I ine it up again. This can be done by
installing the keyhole plate with lo ck hous-
ing secured lo ose ly on the front motor case.
The presserfoot bar is then dropped down
and should be lined up at the bottom of the
stand . Then the lock housing can be secured.
CAUTION:
When installing new lock, observe orienta-
tion carefully {see sketch) or lock will not
function.

HALF NUT STOP ADJUSTMENT
DO NOT make this adjustment unless the
sharpener is not stopping or unless installing
a new half nut. Improper adjustment can
cause the sharpener to malfunction.
Remove the half nut tension spring (No.
2445203). Back off adjustment screw (No.
9908832). Hold half nut so it is engaged
tightly against left drive bar. Slowly tight-
en adjustment sc r ew unti I you can just see
the half nut move. Re-install tension spring.

TROUBLESHOOTING
MACHINE IS COMPLETELY DEAD
1. Check to see that connectors and plugs are firmly seated and on/ off switch is on
and functioning.
2. Check current at terminal box for proper voltage and phase.
3. Make sure machine is free.
MACHINE HUMS BUT WILL NOT START BY ITSELF
CAUTION:
Do not allow motor to run for more than 15 SECONDS at low
speeds or motor wi II burn out.
1. Be sure knife and slide mechanism are free.
2. Check start windings centrifuga I switch and capacitor for proper operation.
MOTOR STARTS, COMES UP TO SPEED VERY SLOWLY
CAUTION: Do
not leave motor on for more than 10 SECONDS in this
condition or motor wi II burn out.
1. Check start winding centrifugal switch and capacitor for proper operation.
2. Make sure machine can rotate freely.
MOTOR OVERHEATS
1. Make sure air passages and motor are cleaned and free of any obstruction.
Check that fan operates properly .
2. Check voltage and current at term ina I box on machine to insure that the y meet
nameplate requirements .
3. Make sure the centrifugal mechanism is operating pro per ly and the start wi nding
is out of the circuit.
