YourJenn-Air self-cleaning oven combinesthe best offourcooking methods,
conventional baking or roasting, convection baking, convection roasting and
broiling. (Note; Only Model SVE47600 has the convection options.)
The Jenn-Air convection oven isactually aconventionaloven that circulates
heated airwithin theoven.As both bakeand broil heating elements cycle on
and off with the thermostat, afan keeps the heated aircirculating around the
food. The constantly recirculating heated airin theconvection oven strips
away thelayer of cooler air that surrounds the food.Consequently, many
foodscook morequickly. Evenlydistributed heatmakes multiplerack
cooking possible. Convectionroasted meatsretain their natural flavor and
juiciness with lessshrinkagethan conventional roasting.
In additionto the many exclusive benefits of convection cooking, your Jenn-
Air oven isalso afinefull featured conventional bake and broiloven. You can
cook your "oldfavorite" recipes asyou havein thepast. The conventional
bake oven also gives you the flexibility of preparing various foodswhen
convection cooking may not be as beneficial, aswhen cooking foods in
covered casseroles or clay pots. The broil element isconvenient for top
browning and oven broiling of foods.

Read before operating your range
All appliances -- regardlessof the manufacturer -- havethepotential
through improper or carelessuse to create safety problems. There-
fore the following safety precautions should be observed:
1. Besure your appliance is properly installedand grounded by a
qualified technician.
2. Never use your appliance for warming or heating the room.
3. Children should not be left alone or unattended in area where
applianceis in use. They should never beallowed to sitor stand
on any part of theappliance.
4. Wear properapparel. Loose-fittingorhanginggarmentsshould
never be worn while using the appliance.
5. Do not repair or replaceany part of theappliance unless
specifically recommended in this manual. All other servicing
should be referred to an authorized Jenn-Air Service Contractor.
6. Flammablematerials should not be stored in an oven or near
surface units.
7. Do not use water on grease fires. Smother fire or flame or use
dry chemical or foam-typeextinguisher.
8. Use only dry potholders. Moist or damp potholders on hot
surfaces may result in burnsfrom steam. Do not let potholder
touch hot heating elements. Donot use a towelor other bulky
cloth.
g. Use proper pan size. Many appliances areequipped with one
or more surface units of different size. Select cookware having
flat bottoms large enough to cover thesurfaceunit heating
element.The use of undersized cookware will expose aportion
of the heating element to direct contact and may result in
ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookwareto heating
element will also improve efficiency and performance.
10. Never leave surface units unattended at high heat settings. Boil
over causes smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite.

11.Glazed cookwara-- onlycertaintypesofglass,glass-ceramic,
ceramic,earthenwareorotherglazedcookpotsaresuitablefor
rangetopsurfacewithoutbreakingduetothesuddenchange
intemperature.Useonlysuchcookwareasyouknowhasbeen
approvedforthis purpose.
12.Cookwara handlesshouldbe turned inwardand not extend
overadjacentsurfaceheatingelementstoavoidbums,ignition
offlammablematerialsandspillageduetounintentionalcontact
withthecookware.
13.CAUTION -- Do not store itemsofinterest to childrenin
cabinetsabove a range or onthe backguardofa range --
childrenclimbingontherangetoreachitemscouldbeseriously
injured.
14.Donotsoakorimmerseremovableheatingelementsinwater.
15.Donottouchsurfaceunitsorareasnearunits,heatingelements
orinterior surfacesofoven. Surfaceunitsorheatingelements
may behot even though they are dark in color. Areas near
surface unitsand interiorsurfacesof an oven maybecomehot
enough tocause burns. During and after use, do nottouch or
let clothing or other flammable materialscontact theseareas
untilthey have hadsufficienttimeto cool. Other surfaces may
become hot enough to cause burns --among thesesurfaces
are thecooktop,the upperdoorframeand glass,ovenvent
openingandsurfacesneartheopening,andthetopedgeofthe
controlpanel.
16.Usecarewhenopeningovendoor.Lethotairorsteamescape
beforeremovingorreplacingfood.
17.Donot heatunopenedfoodcontainers. Build-upof pressure
may causecontainerto burstand resultin injury.
18.Keepovenventductsunobstructed.Theovenventislocated
underneaththeairgrille.
19.Alwaysplaceovenracksindesiredlocationwhileoveniscool.
Ifrackmustbemovedwhileovenis hot,do notletpotholder
contacthotheatingelementin oven.
21).Donotcleandoorgasket. Thedoorgasketisessentialfora
goodseal.Careshouldbetaken notto rub,damageor move
thegasket.

21.Do not useoven cleaners.No commercialoven cleaneror

22.Clean only parts listed in this manualand useprocedures

27.Do not operatewith damagedcookingelement after any
productmalfunctionuntilproperrepairhas been made.
28.Keep allswitches"OFF"when unitisnotin use.
29.Do notallowaluminumfoilto contactheatingelements.
30.On conventionalelementcartridgesmakesurethatdrippans
are in place. Absenceof these pans duringcookingmay
subjectwiringorcomponentsunderneathto damage.
31.Donotusealuminumfoiltolinesurfaceunitdrip pans,grillbasin
orovenbottom.Installationoftheselinersmayresultinelectric
shockorfirehazard.
32.WARNING:To reducetheriskoftippingoftheappliance,the
appliancemustbesecuredbyproperlyinstalledanti-tipdevices.
Tocheckifdevicesare installedproperly,removetheaccess
panelandverifythattheanti-tipdevicesareengaged.

33.Thisappliance has been tested for safe performance using
conventional cookware. Donot use any devices or accessories
that are not specifically recommended in this manual. Do not
useeyelid covers for thesurface units, stovetop grills, or add-
on convection systems.Theuseofdevicesoraccessories that
are not expressly recommended in this manual can create
serious safety hazards, result in performance problems, and
reduce the life of the components of the appliance.
34.PREPARED FOOD WARNING: Follow food manufacturer's
instructions. If a plastic frozen food container and/or its film
cover distorts, warps or is otherwise damaged during cooking,
immediately discard the food and its container. The food could
be contaminated.

ventilationsystem, touchthe Fan Pad. The fan wi({comeon
at the Hi speed. To set on Lo speed, touch theFan Pad
(once from Hi settingor twicefrom theOFF position).
• A beep willsound every time the Fan Padis touched.
• Toturn theventilationsystemOFF,touchtheFan Pad (oncefromLo speedortwicefrom
Hispeed).
•The ventilationsystemwilloperate automatical/y onHi speed when thegdllelement isin
use. During grilling,the fanspeedisautomatically set fortheHi setting AND cannot be

Air Grille
Theairgrilleliftsoff easily. Wipe clean orwash insinkwith mildhouseholddeten:jents.Itmay
be cleaned inthe dishwasher. Note:The ovenvent islocatedunderthe air grille. Whenusing
orcleeningtheoven,hotandmoistairmaybenoticedinthisarea. 13ecarefulnottospillanything
intothisvent. Removetheairgrillebeforeself-creaningtheoven. (Seep. 36.)
Filter
Turn offventilationsystembeforeremoving. Thefilterisapermanent
typoand shouldbe cleanedwhensoiled. Cleaninsinkwithwarm water
andliquiddishwashing detergent orindishwasher.Important: Filter
should aMays beplacedatan angle.Asyou facethefrontoftherange,
thetopofthefilter shouldrest against the leftside ofthevent opening
and the bottom of the filtershould rest against the right side of the
ventilation chamberat the bottom. DONOT OPERATESYSTEM WITHOUT FILTER.
Ventilation Chamber
Thisarea,whichhousesthefilter,shouldbe cleanedin theeventofspillsorwheneveritbecomes
coatedwitha filmofgrease,Itmay becleanedwithpapertower,dampcloth,orspongeendmild
householddetergent. 9

• Sincethe controlsarea push-turntype,theymust bepushed downbeforeturning.To set
(fromthe OFF position), push down on thecontrolknob and turnin eitherdirectionto
desired setting.
•Whenthecontrolisinanyposition,otherthanOFF, itmaybeturnedinanydirectionwithout
pushingdown.
•A green indicatorlightwillglowwhenasurfaceheating element isON. Thereare four

NOTE SVE47E00Model: Onlytheleftrearortherightfrontcontrolsmust
beturnedontousethefull grill.
Thesizeandtypeofcookwareand theamountandtypeoffoodbeingcookedwillinfluencethe
settingneeded for bestcooking results.Electricalvoltage may alsovary,whichwillaffect the
neededcontrolsetting.The settingindicatedshouldserveasaguidewhileyoubecomefamiliar
with your range.
Hi Afast heat to start cooking quickly,to bring liquidsto a boil, to preheat oil for deep
fat hying.Usefor mostgrilling.
7-10 (Medium High) For fast frying or browning foods, to maintain rapid boll of large
amounts of food, to maintain oil temperature for deep fat frying.
5-6(Medium) For foods cooked in a doubleboiler, saut6ing, slow boil oflarge
amounts of food, and most frying.
3-4 (Medium Lo) To continuecooking foods started on higher settings.
Lo-2 Maintaining serving temperatures of foods, simmeringfoods, melting butter or
chocolate.
The controlsofferflexibilityinsettingselection. On settingsotherthanHi, you may adjustthe
controlaboveorbelowthenumberedsettingforbestresults.Thisappliesto settingswhenusing
cooktopcartridgesorwhen usingthegrilloranyofthegrillaccessories.Suggestedsettingsare
providedas generalguidelines.10

Cooktopcartridges,eitherconventionalcoil,halogen,radiantorsolidelement,can be
installedoneithersideoftherange. (See page51 forallavailablecartridgesandmodel
numbers.)
To Install Cartridges
1. If the grillelement,grin-rocksor gratesarein place,removebefore installinga
cooktopcartridge. Cleanpomelainbasinpan ofany greaseaccumulation.(See
page17 for cleaningrecommendations.)
2.To installanyoftheoptionalcooktopcartridges,besurecontrolsareturnedOFF.
Positionthecartridgeterminalplugtowardstheterminalreceptacle.Thisreceptacle
islocatedatthefrontoftheleft sideand atthebackoftherightsideoftherange.
3. Slidethecartridgetowardsthe receptacleuntil the cartridgeterminal plug is
completelyengaged.
4. Lowertheoppositeend ofthe cartridgeintotherangetopuntilitis flushwiththe
surface. Yourrangeisnow readytouse.
To Remove Cartridges
1. Controls must be OFF and thecartridgeshouldbecool.
2.Liftuponthe "tab"locatedonthecartridgeuntiltopofcartridgeclearstheopening
ontherangebyabout2 inches. Liftingthecartridgetoohighwhilestillengagedin
thereceptaclecoulddamagetheterminalplug.
3. Todisengageterminal,holdcartridgebythesidesandslideawayfromthe terminal
receptacle. Liftout whenfully unplugged.
4. A storagetray, ModelA350, isavailableand can beusedfor storinga cartridge.
5. Do notstack cartridgeswhere theymay fal[ or bedamaged. Never store other
materialsontopoftheglass-ceramiccartridgessincethiscoulddamageorscratch
thesurface.
Canningshouldbedoneon theconventionalcoilcartridgeonly. Canning element
accessory,ModelA145A,makesitpossibleto uselargecannerswiththeconventional
coilcartridge.

• Select heavy gauge cook,pots. Usuallyheavygaugecookpotswillnotchange
shape whenheated.
• Usecookpotswith flat, smoothbottoms. Thetwowaystodetermineifcookpots
have a flat, smoothbottomarcthe rulertest and the cookingtest.
Ruler Test
1. Placetheedgeofruleracrossthebottom /f,,-_ _
ofthepot.
2. Hold uptothelight.
3. Nolightshouldbevisibleundertheruler.
Cooking Test
1. Put1 inchofwaterintothecookpot.
2. Placecookpotonthe element. "rumcontroltotheHi setting.
3. Observethebubbleformationtodeterminetheheatdistribution,ifthebubbles
are uniformacrossthecookpot,the cookpotwillperformsatisfactorily.Ifthe
bubblesarenotuniform,the bubbleswill indicatethehotspots.
• Match the size of thecookpot tothesize ofthe element, ideally the cookpot
willbethesamesizeor slightlylarger.
Heavy gauge cookpotswith fiat, smoothbottomswill usuallywork in a similarway.
However,therearesomedifferencesinthecookingperformanceofvariousmaterials.
•Aluminum cookpotsheatquicklyand evenly. Bestsuitedforsimmering,braising,
boilingand frying.
•Stainlesssteel cookpots w_llevenlydistributeheat ifconstructed oftd-ply or
combinedwith other metalssuch as aluminumand copper. Use for cooking
functionssimilarto aluminum.
•Cast iron cookpotsare slowto heat but cook moreevenly once temperatureis
reached. Usefor longtermlow heatcookingorfor browningandfrying.
•Glass ceramic, earthenware, heat-proof glass or glazed cookpotscanbe usedif
recommendedby the manufacturerfor cookpotcooking. Do not usewithtrivets.
Bestusedon low tomediumcontrolsettings.
•Porcelain enamel-on-steel or porcelain enamel-on-cast iron should be used
accordingtomanufacturer'sdirections. Do not allowto boildry.

The grillaccessoryconsistsoftwoblackgrillgrates,a grillelement,andtwogrill-rocks.
To Install Grill
1. Before installinggrillcomponents,becertaincontrolsare OFF.
2. Placethetwogritl-rocksintoanemptybasinpanwiththeirhandlesrunningparallel
tothefrontoftherange. These grill-rocksmustbeusedsincetheysupportthegrill
element.
3. Positionthegrill elementwiththe terminalplugtowardsthe terminalreceptacle.
This receptacleis locatedat thefrontofthe leftsideandatthebackoftherightside
ofthe range. Slidethe elementtowardsthe receptacleuntilthe terminalplug is
completelyengaged. The grillelementshouldnowrestonthehandlesofthegrill-
rocks.
4. Placethe blackgrillgrateson thetop oftherengetop.
To Remove Grill
1. Removegrillcomponentsoncethey arecool. Be surecontrolsare OFF.
2. To removegrillelement,pull awayfrom receptacleuntilit isunplugged. (Note;
Liftingthe element morethan 2inchesabove therangetopsurface whileit is
engaged inthereceptaclecoulddamagetheterminalplug.)
3.A storagetray, ModelA350, isavailableforpurchaseand canbeusedfor storing
the grillassembly.
Installing Other Grill Accessories
1. Removethe two blackgrillgratesfromthe grill. Now you are readyto usethe
optionalgrillaccessories.
2. RevLewtheinstructionsfor installingandusingtheaccessoriesthatarepackaged
withthe accessory.
Note: Accessoryoptionsare shownon page50.

• Beforethefirstuse,washyour new grillgratesinhotsoapywater, rinseanddry.
Then "season"thesurface by wiping ona thin coating ofcookingoil.Remove
excessoilby wipingagainwith anotherpapertowel.This procedureshouldbe
repeated when either:a)cleaning inthe dishwasher since the detergentmay
removeseasoning,orb)anytimeasugar-basedmarinade(forexample,barbecue
sauce) isgoingtobe used.
•Preheat thegrill on HIfor 5 minutes. Preheating improvestheflavor and
appearanceofmeats and quicklysears the meat to help retainthe juices. The
heatingelementshouldglow a brightcherryred.
•Usenonmetallicspatulasorutensi/stopreventdamagingtheExcalibur®nonst/ck
grill grate finish.
•Excessive amounts of fat should be trimmed from meats. Onlya normalamount
is necessaryto producethesmoke needed for that smoked,"outdoor"flavor.
Excessivefat cancreatecleaningand flare-upproblems.
•Allowing excessive amounts of grease or drippings to constantly flame voids the
warrantyon the grill grates. Excessiveflare-upsindicatethateitherthegrillinterior
needsto be cleanedor thatexcessiveamountsoffat arein the meat or the meat
was notproperlytrimmed.
•Greasedrippingswilloccasionallyigniteto produceharmlesspuffsofflame for a
secondortwo. Thisisanormalpartofthe cookingprocess.
•NEVER LEAVE GRILL UNATTENDED DURING GRILL OPERATION.
Should excess grease cause sustained flare-up
1. TurnonFAN manually.
2. Immediatelyturn grillcontrol(s)to OFF.
3.Removemeat from gdll.
IMPORTANT
•Do not use aluminumfoilinsidethe gri, area.
•Do not usecharcoalorwoodchipsinthe grillarea.
•Do notallowgdll-reckstobecomeoverloadedwithgrease. Clean frequently.
•Donotcovergratescompletelywithmeat. Leaveairspacebetweeneachsteak,
etc. toallow proper ventilationaswellas preventflare-ups.

WithyourJenn-Airgrilland accessories,literallyanyfoodyou'veconsidered"atitsbest"when
preparedoutdoorscannowbe prepared indoorswithlessfussand greatflavor. The following
suggestionsaregoodrulesto follow and willincrease yourenjoymentofthe equipment.
• Be sureto follow directions onpage14 forusingthegdti.
• Suggestedcookingtimesandcontrolsettingsareapproximateduetovariationsinmeate.
Experiencewillquickly indicatecooking timesas well as which settings work best.
•Usethe Energy-Saver grillelementforgrillingsmallamountsoffoodon halfofthegdllor
forkeepingcookedfoodswarmorpreparingfoodsrequiringdifferentcontrol settings.Note
SVE47500 Owners: The Energy-Saver grillelement can bepurchased as an optional
accessory.(See p. 50.)
•Forbestresults,buytopgrademeat. Meat that is at least3/_inchthickwill grillbetter than
thinnercuts.
•Score fat on edges ofsteak,but do not cutinto meat, toprevent cudingwhilecooking.
•Forthe attractive"branded"lookon steaks, be suregrillispreheated. Allow one side of
meattocooktodesireddoneness, oruntiljuicesappearonthetopsurface, beforeturning.
Tum steaksand hamburgersjust once. Manipulatingfood_?,_useslossofjuices.
•When bastingmeatsorapplying saucestofoods, remember that excossiveamountswind
up insideyour grilland do notimprove thefoodflavor. Apply sauces during thelast t5 to
20 minutesofcookingtimeunlessrecipespecifiesotherwise. Sugar-based sauces,when
usedexcessively,wilJcarmelizeonthegrill-rocksand create extra cleaning.
•There are many meatmarinadeswhichwillhelptenderize less expensive cutsof meatfor
cookingon thegrill.

•Removestubbomspotswithaplasticmeshpufforped. Forbestresults, useonlythose
cleaning productswhich statethey arerecommended for use when cleaning nonstick
agrraces.
•Itgrateswere washed inthe dishwasher, seasonwith oilpriorto grilling. (See p. 14.)
•Donotusernetalbmshesorabrasivescouringpadsorotherscrubbersintendedtoclean
outdoor charcoal gril/s. Thesewillremovethefinishaswell asscratchthegrates. Do not
clean in self-cleaning oven or use oven cleaners on the grates.

Grill-Rocks
These are madefrom cast-ironwhich have been coated with porcelain enamel.
• Thegrill-rocksshould becleaned frequently or afterany excessivebuild-up ofgrease.
To clean tightsoil,use detergent and aplasticscrubber, such asTufty, or wash in the
dishwasherifburnedonresidue isfirstremoved. Forheavysoil, soak inhot,soapywater
towhich a cleanser,suchas household ammonia,has beenadded.Stubborn spots on
grill-rocks,such as burned on residue from sauces,canbe scrubbed with astiffbristle
brush.
•Anovencleaner, suchas Easy-Off,canbe used forburnedonsoil. Followmanufacturer's
directions;spray oncleaner and letsoak overnight. Do not clean grill-rocksin the self-
cleaning oven.
Porcelain Basin Pan
This area located under the grill-recks and/orcartridges. Clean after each use ofthe grill.
•To remove lightsoil,clean with soapy water or spray with cleansers suchas Fantastik
or 409. For easier cleanup: a) spray with ahousehold cleanser; b) cover with paper
towels;c) add small amount of hot water tokeep the paper towels moist; d) cover and
wait 15 mlnutas; and e) wipe clean.
•To removemoderatesoil, scrubwith Comet, Son Ami, a soft scrub cleanser or plastic
scrubber.
•To remove stubborn soil,spray with an oven cleaner such as Easy-Off; let soak
overnight,wipe clean, rinse and dry.
Note: Clean the grease drain after each use. To clean: Pour about 1/3cup of very hot tap
watermixed with1teaspoon dishdetergentdownthe drain. In theevent the drainisclogged,
due to large foodparticles being trapped, use the nylon stringthat was packaged with your
range. To usethe nylonstring, simplyinsertone end intothe drainopening inthebasin pan.
Feedthe nylonstringdownuntilitisvisibleundertherange. Nowpulluponthe end extending
outfromthe topwhileholdinga papertowel aroundthestring, toclean thestringas itisbeing
pulled. Thisshould freeanytrappad particlesoffood. Pouranother 1/3cupofveryhotwater
mixed withdishdetergent to assure the drain is opened and clear.
Grease Containers
The containers are locatedbehindthebottomaccess panel, underneaththe range.(See page
44 foropening access panel.) There is onecontainer forthe leftsideandone fortherightside.
They collect grease andother liquidscreated whitegri((ingorusing some of the accassor[es.
Check each timeafter grilling andempty when greaseisnoticeable. To remove, simplygrasp
thehandle, andpullfromthebracketholdingthecontainer.__
• Check thecontainerperiodicallytoprevent grease fromspilling
over. Ifthis shouldhappen, the grease will flow overthe
containerandontothefloor. Thecontainerandscrew-onhandle
can bewashed in hot,soapy water or inthedishwasher. The
container can be replacedwith any heat temperedjar, suchas
acanningjar,which hasastandardscrewneck.

To set oven on Bake or Convect Bake or Convect Roast
1, Place oven racks on proper rack positions, (Bee p.21,)
2, Touch Bake Pad or Convect BakePad or Convect Roast Pad,
Indicator Words BAKE or CONV BAKE or CONV ROAST will flash and three
dasheswill beshown.
Note:If more than fifteenseconds elapse between touching apad and touching a
number pad,Display will returnto previous Display.
3. Touch theappropriate number pads for desired oven tempereture.
Allowable temperature range is 100° to550°F. After four seconds the evenwill begin
to preheat. The Indicator Words ON, PREHEAT, and either BAKE or CONV BAKE
or CONV ROAST will appear in the Display.The temperature shown will be100°
or theoven temperature whichever Is higher.
Example:If at 10o'clock youset the oven for 350°for convect baking,after four
seconds the OJspJaywill show:

During thepreheat, theDisplay will show a risein 5° increments until programmed
temperature is reached. When the oven is preheated, the oven will chime,theON
andPREHEAT Indicator Words willgo off, and programmedoven temperaturewill

Note: Oven will preheat for approximately 7 to 11 minutes.
Important:Whenever ON appears in the Display, theoven Is heating.
To recall temperature set during preheat: Touch the appropriateBake or
Convect BakePad orConvect Roast Pad. Temperature will bebdefly displayed,
thenwill automatically return to on-goiog program.
To change temperature set: Touch appropriateBake Pad or Convect Bake Pad
or Convect Roast Pad and the appropriatenumber padsfor the new desired
temperature.
Note: If you arelowering the temperature below thecurrent oventemperature, the
word PREHEAT and ON willappear briefly intheDisplay and the preheat chimewill
sound. Then, the Display will show programmed temperature andindicator word
BAKE or CONV BAKE orCONV ROAST only.
4. Touch Cancel Off Pad to turnoven off at end of baking. Theovenwillcontinue
operating until the Cancel Off Pad is touched.
