Fan Cooking

The fan circulates hot air to maintain an even
temperatureinsidetheoven.
The advantage of cooking with this function
is energy saving through:
zFaster Preheating
Asthefanovenquicklyreachestemperature,
itisnotusuallynecessarytopreheattheoven
althoughyoumayfindthatyouneedtoallow
an extra 5-7 minutes on cooking times. For
recipes which require higher temperatures,
best results are achieved if the oven is
preheatedfirst,e.g.bread,pastries,scones,
souffles,etc.
zLowerTemperatures
Fan oven cooking generally requires lower
temperaturesthanconventionalcooking.
Followthetemperaturesrecommendedinthe
cooking chart. Remember to reduce
temperaturesbyabout20-25°Cforyourown
recipeswhichuseconventionalcooking.
zEven Heating for Baking
Thefanovenhasuniformheatingonallshelf
positions.Thismeansthatbatchesofthesame
foodcanbecookedintheovenatthesame
time.However,thetopshelfmaybrownslightly
quickerthanthelowerone.Thisisquiteusual.
Thereisnomixingofflavoursbetweendishes.
- Shelfpositionsarenotcritical,butmakesure
theshelvesareevenlyspaced.
- Whencookingmorethanonedishinthefan
oven, place dishes centrally on the shelves
ratherthanseveraldishesononeshelf.
- Whentheovenisfull,youmayneedtoallow
slightlylongercookingtime.
- Whentheovenisfullofthesamefood,e.g.
equaltraysofsmallcakesorequalsizevictoria
sandwichcakes,thentheywillbecookedin
the same time and removed from the oven
together.Whendifferentsizesoftraysortypes
offood,e.g. biscuits andcakesare cooked,
theywillnotnecessarilybereadytogether.
- The fan oven can be used to heat foods
throughwithout thawing first, e.g.fruit tarts,
mince pies, sausage rolls, and other small
pastryitems.Useatemperatureof190-200°C
andallow 20-40minutes (depending onthe
quantityoffoodintheoven).
- Theuseoftoohightemperaturescancause
uneven browning. Check with the
recommendationsforoventemperaturesgiven
inthecookingcharts,butbepreparedtoadjust
thetemperature,ifnecessary.Rememberto
reduce temperatures by about 20-25°C for
yourownconventionalrecipes.
- Whenroastingdousethetrivetinthemeattin.
Fatandmeatjuiceswilldrainintothemeattin
below and can be used to make gravy.The
trivetalsopreventssplashesoffatfromsoiling
theoveninterior.
- Themeattinshouldnotbeplacedonaheated
hotplateasthismaycausetheenameltocrack.
Howto use the Fan Oven
1.Turntheovenfunctioncontrolknobto .
2. Turn the thermostat control to the required
temperature.
Things to note
• The oven light will come on when the oven
functioncontrolknobisset.
• Theovenfanwill operatecontinuallyduring
cooking.
• Thethermostatcontrollightwillremainonuntil
thecorrecttemperatureisreached.Itwillthen
cycleonandoff toshowthetemperatureis
beingmaintained.
