Important information
Important information
This machine is intended for use by specialist or
trained staff in businesses, light industry and agri-
cultural facilities or for commercial use by non-pro-
fessionals. It should only be used for coffee prepa-
ration and to heat water. Use for any other purpose
will be deemed improper. JURA Elektroapparate AG
cannot accept any responsibility for the conse-
quences of improper use.
Before using the machine read these instructions
for use thoroughly and completely and comply
with the instructions they contain. A warranty ser-
vice is not applicable for damage or defects caused
by non-compliance with the instructions for use.
Keep these instructions for use close to the machine
and pass them on to the next user.
The X6may only be operated by instructed per-
sons. Non-professionals must be supervised dur-
ing use.
Please carefully read and observe the important
safety information set out below.
To avoid danger of potentially fatal electric shock:
UNever use a machine which is damaged or has
a defective mains cable.
UIn the event of signs of damage, for example if
there is a smell of burning, unplug the machine
immediately from the mains supply and con-
tact JURA service.
UFor models with a permanently connected
mains cable: If the mains cable of this machine
is damaged, it must be repaired either directly

UFor models with a disconnectable mains cable:
If the mains cable of this machine is damaged
it must be replaced with a special mains cable,
which is available directly from JURA or from
authorised JURA service centres.
UMake sure that the X6and the mains cable are
not located close to hot surfaces.
UBe careful to ensure that the mains cable is not
trapped and does not rub against sharp edges.
UNever open and repair the machine yourself.
Do not modify the machine in any way that is
not described in these instructions for use. The
machine contains live parts. If opened, there is
a danger of potentially fatal injury. Repairs
may only be carried out by authorised JURA
service centres, using original spare parts and
accessories.
UTo completely and safely disconnect the
machine from the power supply, first switch
off the X6using the On/Off button. Only then
should you remove the mains plug from the
power socket.
There is a risk of scalds or burns on the spouts.
UPlace the machine out of the reach of children.
UDo not touch any hot parts. Use the handles
provided.
A defective machine is not safe and could cause
injury or fire. To avoid damage and any associated
risk of injury or fire:
UNever allow the mains cable to loosely hang
down. The mains cable could pose a tripping
hazard or become damaged.

UProtect the X6from environmental influences
such as rain, frost and direct sunlight.
UDo not immerse the X6, mains cable or con-
nections in water.
UDo not put the X6or any individual parts in the
dishwasher.
UBefore cleaning, switch the X6off with the On/
Off button. Always wipe the X6with a damp
cloth rather than a wet one, and protect it from
prolonged exposure to water splash.
UOnly connect the machine to the mains volt-
age in accordance with the information on the
rating plate. The rating plate is located on the
underside of your X6. Further technical data is
provided in these instructions for use (see
Chapter 9‘Technical data’).
UConnect the X6directly to a domestic power
socket. Using multi-socket adapters or exten-
sion cords may cause overheating.
UDo not use alkaline cleaning agents; only use
a soft cloth and mild cleaning agents.
UPlease only use original JURA maintenance
products. Use of products that are not explic-
itly recommended by JURA could damage the
machine.
UDo not use any coffee beans treated with addi-
tives or caramelised coffee beans.
UOnly fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
USwitch the machine off with the On/Off button
if you are going to be absent for a longer
period of time and remove the mains plug
from the power socket.
UChildren may not clean or service the machine
unless supervised by a responsible person.

UDo not allow children to play with the machine.
UKeep children under the age of 8away from
the machine, or supervise them constantly.
UChildren aged 8and over may only operate
the machine without supervision if they have
been instructed in how to use it safely. Chil-
dren must be able to recognise and under-
stand the potential dangers arising from incor-
rect use.

Safety when handling the CLARIS Pro Smart filter
cartridge:
UFilter cartridges should be kept out of the
reach of children.
UStore filter cartridges in a dry place in the
sealed packaging.
UProtect cartridges from heat and direct sun-
light.
UDo not use damaged filter cartridges.
UDo not open filter cartridges.

1Preparing and using for the first time
Visit us on the Internet. You can download short operating instruc-
tions for your machine from the JURA website (www.jura.com). You
will also find interesting and up-to-date information on your X6and
on every aspect of coffee.
When setting up your X6, please note the following:
UPlace the X6on a horizontal surface that is not sensitive to
water.
UChoose a spot for your X6which protects the machine against
overheating. Ensure that the ventilation slots are not covered.
The aroma preservation cover of the bean container is lockable
(spanner supplied as standard).
Coffee beans which have been treated with additives (e.g. sugar),
ground coffee or freeze-dried coffee will damage the grinder.
TOnly use roasted, untreated coffee beans to fill the bean con-
tainer.
TRemove the aroma preservation cover.
TRemove any dirt or foreign objects from inside the bean
container.
TFill the bean container with coffee beans and close the
aroma preservation cover.
When you use the machine for the first time, you must set the water
hardness. If you do not know the hardness of your water, you can
find this out first. Use the Aquadur® test strips supplied with the
machine.
THold the test strip briefly (for 1second) under flowing water.
Shake off the water.

TWait for about 1minute.
TYou will then be able to read the degree of water hardness
from the discolouration of the Aquadur® test strip and the
description on the packaging.
When using the machine for the first time, you can choose whether
you want to operate X6with or without the CLARIS Pro Smart filter
cartridge. As well as limescale, the filter cartridge filters many other
substances that impair aroma and flavour out of the water. These
substances may negatively affect the coffee. To enjoy the best qual-
ity coffee at all times, we recommend that you use CLARIS Pro
Smart.
If the machine is operated with a defective mains cable, there is a
danger of potentially fatal electric shock.
TNever use a machine which is damaged or has a defective
mains cable.
Precondition:The bean container has been filled.
TFor machines with a plug-in mains cable: Connect the mains
cable to the machine.
TInsert the mains plug into a power socket.
TPress the On/Off button Qto switch the X6on.
‘Sprachauswahl’
ETo display more languages, press the ‘ T’ button (bottom
right).
TPress the button that corresponds to the language you want,
e.g. ‘English’.
‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display to confirm the setting.
‘Water hardness’
EIf you do not know the hardness of your water, you must find
this out first (see Chapter 1‘Preparing and using for the first
time – Determining the water hardness’).

TPress the ‘<’or ‘>’button to change the water hardness
setting, for example to ‘25°dH’.
TPress the ‘Save’ button.
‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display.
‘Filter operation’
ENow decide whether you want to operate your X6with or
without a CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge.
Operation with filter cartridge: go straight to the next section.
Operation without filter cartridge: see Chapter 1‘Preparing and
using for the first time – First-time use without filter cartridge acti-
vation’.
Milk, sparkling mineral water or other liquids can damage the water
tank or the machine.
TOnly fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
TPlace a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the hot-water
spout.
TRemove the water tank and rinse it with cold water.
TOpen the filter holder.
TInsert the filter cartridge into the water tank, exerting slight
pressure.
TClose the filter holder. It will click into place audibly.
TFill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the
tank.
EThe machine automatically detects that you have just inserted
the filter cartridge.
‘Change the filter’ / ‘Saved’
‘Filter is being rinsed’, water flows out of the hot-water
spout.

EThe start screen shows the products you can prepare. Press
the ‘ T’ button to display more products.
EIf the filter is active, this is indicated by a blue filter symbol at
the bottom of the display.
Milk, sparkling mineral water or other liquids can damage the water
tank or the machine.
TOnly fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
TPress the ‘No filter’ button.
‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display.
‘Fill water tank’
TPlace one receptacle under the coffee spout and another
under the hot-water spout.
TRemove the water tank and rinse it with cold water.
TFill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the
tank.

Your X6is equipped with the JURA Smart Connect. This allows you
to connect the machine to a compatible JURA accessory via Blue-
tooth.
Precondition:The start screen is displayed.
TPress the ‘Pc’button.

TPress the ‘ T’ button several times until ‘3/4’is displayed.
TPress the ‘Connect accessory’ button.

Basic information about preparing drinks:
UThe display shows the products you can prepare. Press the
‘T’button to display more products.
UDuring the grinding operation you can select the coffee
strength of single products by pressing the ‘<’and ‘>’but-
tons.
UDuring preparation you can change the preset amount of
water by pressing the ‘<’and ‘>’buttons.
UYou can stop the machine at any time while a speciality coffee
or hot water is being prepared. To do this, press the ‘Cancel’
button.
Coffee tastes best served hot. A cold porcelain cup cools the bever-
age – and impairs the taste. We therefore recommend prewarming
the cups. The full coffee aroma can develop only in prewarmed cups.
You can purchase a JURA cup warmer from your specialised dealer.
You can make permanent settings for all products in programming
mode (see Chapter 4‘Permanent settings in programming mode –
Adjusting the product settings’).
Ristretto, espresso, coffee and special coffee are all prepared follow-
ing this model.
Two brewing operations are carried out for the espresso doppio to
create a particularly full-bodied and aromatic speciality coffee.
For a pot of coffee, you can choose the number of brewing opera-
tions (1–5strokes).
Example:Proceed as follows to prepare one coffee.
Precondition:The start screen is displayed.
TPlace a cup under the dual spout.
TPress the ‘Coffee’ button.
Preparation starts. ‘Coffee’ and the coffee strength are dis-
played. The preset amount of water for coffee flows into the
cup.
Preparation stops automatically. Your X6is once more ready
for use.

It is easy to permanently adjust the amount of water for all single
products to the cup size. Adjust the amount once as shown in the
following example. Every time you prepare a drink in the future, this
amount will be dispensed.
Example:Proceed as follows to permanently set the amount of
water for one coffee.
TPlace a cup under the dual spout.
TPress and hold the ‘Coffee’ button until ‘Enough coffee?
Press button’ appears.
TRelease the ‘Coffee’ button.
Preparation starts and the coffee flows into the cup.
TPress any button except ‘Cancel’ as soon as there is sufficient
coffee in the cup.
Preparation stops. ‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display. The
set amount of water for one coffee is permanently stored.
Your X6is once more ready for use.
EYou can alter this setting at any time by repeating the above
procedure.
EYou can also permanently set the amounts for all single prod-
ucts in programming mode (see Chapter 4‘Permanent set-
tings in programming mode – Adjusting the product set-
tings’).
You can adjust the grinder to suit the degree of roast of your coffee.
If you adjust the consistency of grind when the grinder is not oper-
ating, the grinder adjustment wheel could be damaged.
TOnly adjust the consistency of grind when the grinder is run-
ning.
The consistency of grind is correct if the coffee flows regularly from
the coffee spout. In addition a fine, thick crema forms.
You can set the consistency of grind using the spanner provided.
Example:Proceed as follows to change the consistency of grind dur-
ing the preparation of an espresso.

TPress the ‘Espresso’ button to start preparation.
TTurn the grinder adjustment wheel to the desired position
while the grinder is running.
The preset amount of water flows into the cup. Preparation
stops automatically.
TClose the cover.
Your X6allows you to prepare different variants of hot water:
U‘Hot water’
U‘Hot water for green tea’
There is a danger of scalding from hot water splashes.
TAvoid direct contact with the skin.
Example:Proceed as follows to prepare hot water for green tea.
Precondition:The start screen is displayed.
TPlace a cup under the hot-water spout.
TPress the ‘Hot water for green tea’ button.
‘Hot water for green tea’, the preset amount of water flows
into the cup.
Preparation stops automatically. Your X6is once more ready
for use.

Daily maintenance of the machine and hygiene when handling cof-
fee and water are key to a perfect coffee result in the cup every time.
You should therefore change the water daily.
Milk, sparkling mineral water or other liquids can damage the water
tank or the machine.

You can lock the water tank cover with the spanner provided.
TOpen the water tank cover.
TRemove the water tank and rinse it with cold water.
TFill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the
tank.

TPress the On/Off button Qto switch the X6on.

To ensure that you get many years of reliable service out of your X6
and to guarantee the optimum coffee quality, the machine requires
daily maintenance.
TPull out the drip tray.
TEmpty the coffee grounds container and the drip tray. Rinse
them both with warm water.
EAlways empty the coffee grounds container when the machine
is switched on. This is the only way of resetting the coffee
grounds counter.
TRefit the coffee grounds container and the drip tray.
TRinse the water tank with clean water.
TWipe the surface of the machine with a clean, soft, damp
cloth (e.g. microfibre cloth).
Carry out the following maintenance actions regularly or as
required:
UClean the inside of the water tank, e.g. with a brush. Further
information about the water tank is provided in these instruc-
tions for use (see Chapter 5‘Maintenance – Descaling the
water tank’).
UTraces of coffee may stick to the top and bottom of the cup
grille. If this happens, clean the cup grille.
When the X6is switched off, the system is automatically rinsed if a
speciality coffee has been prepared.
TPlace a receptacle under the coffee spout.
TPress the On/Off button Q.
‘Machine is rinsing’, the system rinses itself. The operation
stops automatically. Your X6is switched off.

Press the ‘Pc’button to enter programming mode. You can navi-
gate through the programme items and permanently save the
required settings using the multi-function buttons. The following
settings can be made:
