3 Product description
This chapter describes the functions and technical data of the terminal.
3.1 Function
The terminal can be used to grant access rights and validate user media. Access
rights are configured in Kaba evolo Manager, sent to the terminal via Ethernet and
saved on the terminal. Holding a user badge against the RFID read unit either
writes granted access rights to the user badge or removes them.
3.2 System environment
Access authorisations are managed by the Kaba evolo Manager software. In order
to use the terminal in the Kaba evolo system, the B-COMM Java software must also
be installed. This program is used to configure terminal communication between
the Kaba evolo Manager software and the network.

3.9 Installation preparations
3.9.1 IT infrastructure
How the terminal is installed and configured depends on the existing IT
infrastructure, which can vary from company to company, particularly with regard
to network security guidelines.
Prior to installation, any IT-relevant queries must be clarified with the customer's IT
department. The following checklists are intended to assist when clarifying queries:
Check Measures
1) Is the terminal being used in a DNS
Server environment or only with
DHCP?
Refer to settings when configuring B-
COMM Java (Ch. 5.4.2)
2) Are there any naming conventions
for the connection of network
devices to the corporate network?
If there are, the Kaba standard name
must be adjusted manually in the
terminal before starting the
installation and configuration process
(Ch. 6.4.4)
3) Is the terminal operated with a
static IP address?
If operation is with a static IP address,
this must be set manually in the
terminal before starting the
installation and configuration process
(Ch. 6.4.5)
4) The following ports are used for
network communication:
- TCP 20, TCP 21 (note the FTP for
parameters)
- TCP 80 for normal communication
- UDP 1900 SSDP protocol
Ports must be enabled by IT.
5) The following ports are used for
local (client) communication:
- TCP 1433 SQL communication
- TCP 1099 JAVA
- TCP 3001 and TCP 3005 BCOMM
JAVA
Ports must be enabled in the Windows
firewall.
6) Can Java be installed on a local
computer?

3.9.2 Network connection
The network connection to the terminal must be in place and must have been
checked by the IT department. In order to connect the terminal easily, the network
cable must project approx. 15 to 18 cm out of the wall. The RJ-45 plug must be
fitted.
3.9.3 Power supply
If a 230 V power supply is used, it must be prepared by a qualified electrician. The
power supply is connected directly to the connection terminal on the terminal (also
by the qualified electrician).
For details of the connection terminals see section 4.4, page 18.
If the power supply is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) system, the relevant standards
must be adhered to. For more information, see section 3.8, page 12.

4 Fitting the Kaba terminal
This chapter describes how to fit and install the terminal.
4.1 Cable entry
The installation cables can be fed into the housing either from the bottom or the
rear. The docking station has cutouts specifically for this purpose.
The IEC 60529 protection type specified in the technical specifications can only be
achieved if the cable entry from below is fitted with the cable grommets or cable
glands supplied.

4.2 Positioning the device
Clearance distances: An all-round clearance of 20 cm must be maintained
between two devices with RFID readers such as LEGIC or MIFARE.
Installation height: The recommended installation height is 140 cm from the top
edge of the terminal.
Electromagnetic fields: Do not install the terminal in the vicinity of strong
electromagnetic fields caused, for example, by switched-mode power supplies,
electric power lines, phase control, etc.
Electromagnetic fields can adversely affect read performance or cause
malfunctions, especially with non-contact readers (LEGIC, MIFARE).
Sunlight: Direct sunlight causes reflections in the vicinity of the display (making
the display more difficult to read). Do not install the terminal where it will be
exposed to direct sunlight.
4.3 Wall mounting
First make the holes required for the installation cable(s). Feed the cables in from
the bottom or the rear.
Fastening the docking station
The docking station is fastened directly to the wall using screws / dowels. The
docking station has three oval fixing holes (1). When the screws are tightened, the
seal washers completely cover the fixing hole. The seal washers provided must still
be used even if different fixing screws are used (depending on the substrate).
If mounted on a yielding substrate, ensure that the housing is not pressed into the
substrate as the screws are tightened. The unevenness of the mounting surface
must not exceed 0.5 mm. If necessary, suitable measures must be taken (e.g.
washers) to even out the surface.

4.4 Connections
4.4.1 Ethernet connection
Network cable specification: cable with RJ45 plug, CAT.5 E or better.
The terminal must not be installed more than 100 m from the last active
component (switch).
Establishing the network connection
The RJ45 Ethernet socket is situated on the rear of the terminal housing. The
network cable should extend approx. 18 cm from the wall to ensure that the
clearance between the docking station and the terminal housing is large enough to
allow the network plug to be inserted. The network cable is then looped and
inserted into the indentation on the rear of the terminal housing.
4.4.2 Connecting the mains voltage
Only devices with BEX120 motherboard!
The connection to the mains voltage may only be carried out by a qualified
electrician.
Mains voltage supply with phase/zero/protective earth conductor.
The terminal is designed for the following maximum core sizes:
Diameter: 2.7 mm, cross-section 2.5 mm², AWG number: 12.

Mains terminal
The mains voltage has 2-pole fuse protection (4), subminiature fuse (radial)
T 1.0 A / 250 V.
Only replace a fuse with a fuse of the same type.
4.4.4 Fastening the terminal housing to the docking station
For safety reasons (safety of device and persons), the electronic components and
connections in the docking station must not be accessible.
In the case of devices with an optional motherboard in the docking station, the
terminal housing must therefore be installed immediately after installing the
docking station.
The terminal housing can be installed later in the case of devices that do not have a
motherboard in the docking station (supplied via PoE).
