MechanicalStage (included onmodelT-1903)
The mechanicalstage isamechanical way tomove theslide around onyour
stage.It consistsof aslide holderandtwoknobs.The knobs arelocated onside
belowthestage.One knob movesthe slide forwardand backward.The other
knob moves the slide fromleft toright.
BULBREPLACEMENT
a. Beforechanging the bulb,make surethatthe powerswitch isoff and the
power cordhasbeen disconnected fromthe mainsupply.
b. Onthe bottomofyour microscope use aslotted screwdriver toremove the
screwon thelampdoor.Pullopen thelampdoor and carefullyremovethe old
light bulbfromthe socket by gentlypushing inand turning bulbonequarter turn
counter clockwise using thelens paper toholdthe bulb.Put innewbulband
push,andturnclockwise.
c. Avoidtouching the glass surfaceofthe bulbwithbarehand.Any oil brought
ontothebulbby thebarehand will negativelyaffectthe heatdissipationand
shorten thelifeof the bulb. Use twofingersand pull thebulbouttouching the
metalpart ofthe bulb. Clean the bulbsurfacewithalcohol and lens paper ifthe
user has touched the bulbsurface accidentally.
e. Specification of the bulbcanbe found on the surface of themicroscope.

INTERCHANGINGTHEHEAD
Using anallen wrench, insert intoarmnexttohead.Loosen screwtoremove
plasticdustcap. Setdesired microscope head on arm.Tighten screwwithallen
wrench untilsnug.Noneedtoovertighten.
The 100x Objectivelens can be installedsimplyby removing nosepieceplug
fromholeand screwing 100xObjective intoplace, until snug.
CAREANDMAINTENANCE
Yourmicroscope isafine precision instrumentand shouldbe treatedwithcare.
When notinuse itshouldbe protected fromdust by theplasticcoverprovided.
Lensesand eyepiecesshouldbecleanedperiodicallywithopticallenstissue
which issoft andlintfree. Painted surfacescanbe cleaned withamoistenedcloth.
When usinga100xRobjective oilemersion lens,besurenottoleaveanyoil
onthe lensafteruse. Dipacottonswaborlenspaperwithasmall amountof
denatured alcohol, andcleanthe lenssurface carefully.Donotuseaggressive
solventstoclean lens.

Operation
Built-InIlluminator
Turnoff the powerswitch beforeconnecting thepower cordlocated atthe
rearof the microscope. Anin-base illuminatorisbuiltintothebaseofthe micro-
scope and cannot be removed. Bulbreplacementcan be done fromthe under-
neathside.See BulbReplacementinstructions.The built-in20 watt bayonet
incandescentbulbor 5wattfluorescentprovidesall the lightneeded for illumi-
nation. DoNotUse Any OtherBulbAsItWillDamage The Unit.
Eyepiece
The widefieldeyepiece islocked intoplacetoavoidlossofeyepiece.The
eyepointerisbuilt-intothe eyepiece.
(T-1902) The dualviewing headallowstwopeopletolook atthe samespecimen
at thesametimeor connectacameratoone eyepiece for group presentation.
Oneofthe dualviewing eyepieces has adiopteronthe tubefor focusing.This
allowsfocusing foreach person’sindividualeye correction.
(T-1903) The binocular eyepiecehasadiopter on botheyetubes forfocusing.
InterpupiliaryAdjustment(includedonmodelT-1903)Whenusingthebinocular
microscopethereisan adjustment forthe distancebetweenthe viewer’seyes
calledinterpupiliaryadjustment. Theeyepiece lenses will spreadapart or get
closertogethertofit each individual. Place onehandoneachside ofthebinocular
head nexttothe eyepieces and push inandoutuntil the distancebetween the
eyes iscomfortablypositioned. You will seeoneimage.
Focus
Place aspecimen slide underthe stageclipsorinmechanical stageand
moveintoposition forviewing.Usethe 4x objectivefirst. Raise thestage until it
will go no higher.Thenlowerthe stage tobring intofocus. Use thefinefocus
knob toachieve optimumresolution.Once the image issharpyoushouldbe able
tosimplyturnthe nosepiece tothenext objective lensanddo minor adjustments
withthe fine focus knob.
WithCoaxialfocusingboththecoarse andfine focusknobsareonthesame
axis.The coarse focusknob isthe largerknob located next tothe armofthe
microscope.Thefinefocus knobisthesmallerknobmountedontheoutside of
thecoarse focusknob.Havingbothsetsofknobson thesameaxismakesit easi-
ertoswitchfromonefocusknobtotheotherwithoutremovingyourattention from
yourpreparedslide.
DiskDiaphragm (T-1901 &T-1902)
The rotating disk islocated underthe stage(1=Smallest 6=Largest).The
differentsizedholesareused tocontrol the amount oflight that isprojected
upwardintothe slide.Simplybring one of the five differentsizedholesinline
withthe stageopening. Thereisnoset ruleregarding which setting touse with
aparticular lens.
AbbeCondenser 1.25 N.A.(includedon modelT-1903)
The purpose ofthe condenserlens istofocusthe lightontothe specimen.
(adjustthe amountof lightneeded on aspecimen)The N.A.of1.25 gives it the
abilitytobeused withhigher magnification100x objective lens.Movement of
the condenseriscontrolled by alever thatmoves fromside toside.

withAbbe condensertocreateacompletelydifferent microscope.The contour
metalbase iscoveredwithhigh-densityplastictopreventchippingunder
normal use.
MICROSCOPEPREPARATION
For shipping purposes yourComprehensive Microscopehasbeen shipped
witharestraining strap. PleaseCutthestrap priortouse as you will notneed
it again.
Checkthecoarsefocustension. Theknobs areoversizedweredesigned
for bettergripping.The coarse focus knob shouldturneasilytochangethe
focus,but the stage shouldnotdrift or slipon itsown.
Checkthestagestopsafetyfeature. Besurethestage moves up and
downwhen turning thefocusing knob. The stage stop isathumbscrewwitha
lock nutfound justbehindthe stage.Tocheck thestop,firstplaceaprepared
slide inpositionfor viewing. Move thecoarsefocusuntil theobject and stage
areasclosetogetherasthey can be.Look at theslide and turnthe 40x objec-
tiveintoplace. Thisobjective shouldbe veryclosetothe slide, butnot touching.
