ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
When installed, operated and maintained according to all
supplied instructions, if this appliance fails due to a defect in
material and workmanship within one year from the date of
purchase, call 18004MYHOME®(18004694663) to
arrange for free repair.
If this appliance is ever used for other than private family
purposes, this warranty applies for only 90 days from the date
of purchase.
This warranty covers only defects in material and
workmanship. Sears will NOT pay for:
1. Expendable items that can wear out from normal use,
including but not limited to filters, belts, incandescent light
bulbs, and bags.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Installer: Leave Use and Care Guide with the homeowner.
Homeowner: Keep Use and Care Guide for future reference and
for local electrical inspector’s use, if required.
Unpacking
IMPORTANT: Begin in the room where the compactor will be
located.
1. Remove compactor from shipping carton.
2. Remove all packaging materials such as tape and shipping
pads.
3. Use a mild detergent and warm water to remove waxy
residue caused by shipping material.
4. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. For more information, see
“Cleaning.”
5. Be sure the power cord is attached to the cord clip on the
rear of the compactor.
6. Place the 2 corner posts from the carton on the floor near
the compactor.
7. Press the foot pedal to open the compactor drawer and
remove any shipping materials or other items from the
drawer.
NOTE: Do not remove the compactor bag.
8. Grasp sides of drawer and lift drawer out of compactor.
Place the drawer on the 2 corner posts.
9. Place the other 2 corner posts on the floor to the side of the
compactor.
10. Grasp the sides of the compactor cabinet and put
compactor on its side on top of the corner posts.
11. Remove the shipping base from the bottom of the
compactor.

Electrical Requirements
Recommended Grounding Method
This compactor is for use on a single phase, 115-volt, 60 Hz, AC
only, 15- or 20-amp fused and properly grounded circuit and is
equipped with a grounding plug as shown below. It is
recommended that a separate circuit serving only this appliance
be provided.
This compactor must be grounded while in use to reduce the risk
of electric shock. The compactor is equipped with a three-
conductor cord and 3 prong grounding-type plug to fit the
proper grounding-type receptacle. The green (or green and
yellow) conductor in the cord is the grounding wire. Do not
connect the green (or green and yellow) wire to a live terminal.
Undercounter Installation
NOTE: Proper installation is your responsibility. Make sure you
have everything necessary for correct installation. It is the
personal responsibility and obligation of the customer to contact
a qualified installer to assure that electrical installation meets all
national and local codes and ordinances.
Tools needed
Gather the required tools and parts before starting installation.
IMPORTANT:
■Slide compactor onto cardboard or hardboard before
moving compactor across floor to avoid floor covering
damage.
A. Grounded electrical outlet must be a minimum of 3" (7.6 cm)
away from surrounding cabinets or nearby walls as shown. It
can be placed either to the left or the right side of the product.
A. Leave 6" (15.2 cm) of clearance space to the right side of the
compactor in order to remove the compactor bags.
B. Leave 23" (58.4 cm) of clearance in front of the compactor in
order to fully open or remove the compactor drawer.

■Do not allow the rear frame of the compactor to touch the
floor covering when lifting or moving compactor.
Installing
1. Measure the height of your kitchen cabinet opening. The top
of the compactor should be a minimum of ¹₈"(3 mm) from
the top of the kitchen cabinet opening.
The rear wheels are preset for a kitchen cabinet opening
height of 34¹⁄₄" (87 cm) (position 1).
To adjust for other kitchen cabinet opening heights:
■Loosen self-tapping screw just enough to clear stud from
hole in position 1.
■Move the rear wheel and stud to position 2 or 3 as
needed for your kitchen cabinet opening measurement:
Position 2: 34¹⁄₄" to 34⁷⁄₁₆" (87 to 87.5 cm)
Position 3: 34⁷⁄₁₆" to 34⁵⁄₈" (87.5 to 88 cm)
NOTE: To level the unit in position 3, you may need to
add shims under the front leveling legs.
■Tighten screw. Repeat for other rear wheel.
2. Use pliers to lower front leveling legs away from compactor
cabinet. Adjust legs so there will be a ¹⁄₈" (3 mm) to ¹₄"
(6.4 mm) space between the top of the compactor and the
top of the kitchen cabinet opening. Stand the compactor
upright.
3. Move the compactor close to its final position.
4. To install handle:
■Insert screws into the holes from the inside of the drawer.
■Place handle on the front of the drawer and align
handle screw holes with screw ends. (The handle should
appear as a “smile” when installed.)
■Tighten screws snugly.
5. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.
6. Determine whether you want the compactor cabinet or
drawer front flush with the kitchen cabinet face.
Using 2 - #8 - 18 x ⁵₁₆" mounting screws (provided), attach
the retaining brackets to the compactor cabinet top as
needed.
■If the compactor cabinet face is to be flush with the
kitchen cabinet face, place retaining bracket mounting
screws through “1.”
■If the compactor drawer front is to be flush with the
kitchen cabinet face, place retaining bracket mounting
screws through “3.”
■If the compactor is to be midway between “1” and “3,”
place the retaining bracket mounting screws through
“2.”
7. Slowly lift the front slightly and roll compactor into the
kitchen cabinet opening.

8. Using 2 - #8 - 18 x ¹₂" mounting screws (provided), fasten
the retaining brackets to the countertop with the mounting
screws.

NOTE: If retaining brackets cannot be attached to the
underside of countertop, attach mounting clips (provided) to
retaining brackets. Fasten compactor to kitchen cabinet
face with mounting screws through the mounting clips.

9. Grasp sides of compactor drawer and place bottom of
drawer into tracks. Lift at the handle so drawer will go over
drawer stops. Close drawer. Check to see whether drawer
opens freely. If the toe plate rubs against floor, see
“Adjusting the Toe Plate” for further instructions.
Adjusting the Toe Plate
If the toe plate rubs the floor covering, the toe plate clearance
may be changed as follows:
1. Mark on each side of the toe plate the amount of toe plate
that rubs the floor covering.
2. Remove the drawer from the unit. See Step 3 in the
“Unpacking” section.
3. Use a ruler and a pencil or chalk to draw a line between the
marks on each side of toe plate.
4. Use scissors or utility knife to cut toe plate along line.
5. Replace drawer. If toe plate still rubs floor covering, repeat
steps 1-4.

COMPACTOR USE
How Your Compactor Works
The compacting ram is the part of the compactor which
compresses the trash. The compacting ram does not go to the
bottom of the drawer. You will not see compacting of trash the
first few times you load the compactor.
NOTE: The compactor drawer should be more than ¹⁄₂ full
before the compactor can begin to compress the load.
You may hear a noise when glass breaks. Strong glass bottles
may not break at all. The trash in a full compactor bag will be
about ¹⁄₄ the size of its original bulk.
Load bulky trash, bottles, and cans in the center of the drawer.
Bottles or cans not placed in the center may become caught
between the ram and the drawer. The Drawer Monitor Switch
then senses a “misload” and causes the ram to return to the “up”
position without compacting.
Loading
IMPORTANT: Do not push items down into compactor with
hands or feet.
1. Lift and pull the handle or press the foot pedal to open the
compactor drawer.
NOTE: Pressing the foot pedal opens the container only 3"
to 6" (7.6 cm to 15.2 cm), depending on the load. Use the
handle to completely pull out compactor drawer.
2. Place trash in compactor.
■Wrap or cover wet or messy trash.
■Do not compact items that may develop offensive odors
such as raw meat, fish, grapefruit rinds, disposable
diapers, or personal hygiene items.
■Load bottles or cans on their sides in the center of the
drawer. Do not load bottles in an upright position.
3. Close the drawer.
Starting Your Compactor
1. Lift and pull the handle or press the foot pedal to open the
compactor drawer. Load trash.
2. Keep Key-Knob (located on the control panel) in the “ON”
position.
3. Set Cycle switch to Normal Pac.
4. Close compactor.
5. Press foot-actuated START pedal to start the compacting
cycle.
NOTE: When the compacting cycle is completed, open the
drawer and turn the Key-Knob to “OFF.” Remove the Key-Knob
and store it out of children’s reach.

EXTRA PAC™Cycle
The EXTRA PAC™cycle extends the use of a bag by putting
constant pressure on the trash to keep it from springing back.
Regular use of the EXTRA PAC™cycle can increase bag capacity
up to 25%.
During the EXTRA PAC™cycle, the ram will stay in the down
position for extra compacting. The drawer is locked and cannot
be opened when the ram is down. For best results, use the
EXTRA PAC™cycle for at least 30 minutes at a time.
To use EXTRA PAC™cycle
1. Lift and pull the handle or press the foot pedal to open the
compactor drawer. Load trash.
2. Keep Key-Knob (located on the control panel) in the “ON”
position.
3. Set Cycle switch to Extra Pac.
4. Close compactor.
5. Press foot-actuated START pedal to start the compacting
cycle.
6. During the compacting cycle, the compactor remains locked
until you lift up on the foot pedal.
NOTE: When the compacting cycle is done, open the
drawer and turn the Key-Knob to “OFF.” Remove the Key-
Knob and store it out of children’s reach.
Air Freshener
The solid air freshener system is designed to help control odors
that might develop in the trash. An air freshener disc can be
purchased in department stores (not sold with compactor). Place
the disk-shaped solid air freshener into the air freshener
compartment. The air freshener should last 4 to 6 weeks. It is
used more rapidly when the temperature is high or the air is
very dry.
Removing a Filled Bag
The compactor bag should be removed when trash is
compacted almost to the top of the drawer. If bag is too heavy
when full, remove bag when weight is easier to lift and carry.
IMPORTANT: Do not push items down into compactor with
hands or feet.
NOTE: Use paper or plastic bags made for use in a compactor.
These bags are designed to resist cuts, tears and leaks.
Compactor bags sized to fit compactor drawer make managing
compacted trash easier. Compactor bags are available from
your Sears store or service center.
To remove a filled bag
1. Lift and pull the handle or press the foot pedal to open the
compactor drawer completely.
2. You may already have a paper or plastic bag in place.
Please refer to appropriate instructions for your bag.
■If you have a paper bag, lift and fold up the top folded
edges of the bag. Fold ends in and bring side flaps
together. Fold flaps to close bag.

■If you have a plastic bag, remove top of bag from bag
retainer buttons. Close bag with a twist tie.
3. Release drawer side latch. Tilt right drawer side down. This
will make removing the full bag easier.
4. Lift bag by bag caddy handles. Remove trash bag from
compactor and dispose properly.
NOTE: Fully compacted trash bags will be heavy. Handle
with care.
Installing a New Bag
Do not use any kind of bag other than those designed especially
for use in your compactor. Order replacement compactor bags
through your local dealer. See “Accessories.”
IMPORTANT:
Before installing a new bag, be sure:
■The drawer side is securely locked.
■The container is clean and free of debris.
To install a new bag
1. Close drawer side. Lock drawer side latch.
2. Put bag caddy into drawer.
3. Place either a plastic or paper bag into the drawer.
■If using a paper bag, open bag and pull top edges over
the drawer top. Slide front edge of bag over front edge
of drawer. Slide rear edge over rear of drawer.
■If using plastic bag, open bag and pull top edges over
drawer top. Lock bag into place by pulling the
4 prepunched holes over the bag retainer buttons. Holes
will expand over buttons without harming bag.
4. Press inside of bag against the drawer bottom, sides and
corners for a smooth fit.

COMPACTOR CARE
Your new compactor is designed to give you many years of
dependable service. However, there are a few things you are
expected to do in order to properly maintain your compactor.
This section will tell you how to clean and care for your
compactor.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the compactor, turn the Key-Knob (or Key-
Switch) to the OFF & LOCK position and remove it.
NOTE: Any services other than those outlined in this section
should be performed by a designated service representative.
Cleaning Exterior Surfaces
1. Wash exterior surfaces (including stainless steel) with a
clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm
water. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners. Rinse and dry
thoroughly with a soft cloth.
2. Wipe up spills right away. Some foods can damage the
finish if left on the compactor surface.
Cleaning Inside the Drawer
NOTE: You may want to wear gloves since there may be bits of
glass in the drawer.
1. Remove the bag. See “Removing a Filled Bag.”
2. Press down on the lever-action lock (or Side-Lock latch).
3. Hold the lever-action lock down and tilt the side of the
drawer out until the lock clears the drawer front.
NOTE: If desired, the drawer side can be removed by tilting
it up, then lifting it out.
4. Wash the interior of the drawer with a clean sponge or soft
cloth and a mild detergent in warm water. Rinse and dry
thoroughly with a soft cloth.
5. If the drawer side was removed, slide it back into the tilted
position.
6. Press the lever-action lock (or Side-Lock Latch) down while
pushing the drawer side to the upright position.
7. Latch the drawer side by pushing up the lever-action lock (or
Side-Lock Latch).
Cleaning Inside the Cabinet
NOTE: You may want to wear gloves since there may be bits of
glass in the cabinet.
1. Pull the drawer out until it stops.
NOTE: Look to see how the drawer rollers move in the
tracks. It will be easier to replace the drawer after you have
finished cleaning.
2. Lift the front of the drawer to clear the stops.
3. Grasp the drawer on the sides and pull it out the rest of the
way. Set the drawer down gently.
4. Vacuum the inside of the cabinet. Liquid spills or wet trash
should be cleaned up by hand, or by using a vacuum
designed to pick up liquids.
5. Wash the inside of the cabinet with a clean sponge or soft
cloth and a mild detergent in warm water. Rinse and dry
thoroughly with a soft cloth.
6. To replace the drawer, grasp it by the sides and insert the
rollers onto the tracks.
7. Lift the front of the drawer and push it in fully past the stops.

Cleaning the Ram
NOTE: You may want to wear gloves since there may be bits of
glass on the ram cover.
1. Wipe glass particles off of the ram cover with a cloth or
paper towels.
2. Remove foods with a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild
detergent in warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly with a
soft cloth.
Cleaning Before a Vacation
If you will be away for more than a couple of days, remove the
compactor bag. Remove the Key-Knob (or Key-Switch) and
store it out of children’s reach.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Try the solutions suggested here first in order to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call.
Trash is not compacting
■Is the drawer less than half full? Drawer must be more than
half full before trash is compacted.
Your compactor will not operate
■Is the power supply cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded 3
prong outlet.
■Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker
tripped? Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. If the
problem continues, call an electrician.
■Is the drawer completely closed? Close the drawer firmly
and start the compactor again.
■Is the Key-Knob turned all the way to ON? Turn the Key-
Knob (Key-Switch) fully to ON. See “Starting Your
Compactor.”
The drawer will not open
■Did you lift up on the handle to pull drawer out or press foot
pedal? Drawer is designed to slightly open until you lift up
on the handle to pull drawer out or press on the foot pedal.
■Is the ram all the way up? Drawer will open only when ram
is fully raised.
To raise the ram, lift up on the foot pedal. See “Starting Your
Compactor.”
■Is the EXTRA PAC™ cycle selected? Drawer remains locked
until you reset it by lifting up on the foot pedal. See
“Starting Your Compactor.”
There is not enough compaction or force
■Do you use the compacting cycle frequently enough?
Compacting works best when only a few items are loaded.
Bottles do not break
How often do you notice this? Bottles will not break every time.
The thickness of the bottle’s glass and the content of the trash
load below it may keep the bottle from breaking.

Kenmore®está diseñado y fabricado para proporcionarle años
de funcionamiento confiable. Pero al igual que todos los
productos, puede necesitar mantenimiento preventivo o
reparación de vez en cuando. Es allí donde el Contrato maestro
de protección puede ahorrarle dinero e inconvenientes.
El Contrato maestro de protección también ayuda a prolongar
la vida de su nuevo producto. He aquí lo que se incluye en el

GARANTÍA LIMITADA DE UN AÑO
Cuando este electrodoméstico haya sido instalado, operado y
mantenido según las instrucciones provistas, si este
electrodoméstico falla por defectos de material o de mano de
obra dentro de un año a partir de la fecha de compra, llame al

reparación libre de cargo.
Si este electrodoméstico es empleado para algún otro uso que
no sea el doméstico familiar, esta garantía sólo tiene vigencia
por 90 días a partir de la fecha de compra.
Esta garantía cubre solamente los defectos de material y

INSTRUCCIONES DE INSTALACIÓN
Instalador(a): Deje el Manual de uso y cuidado con el(la)
dueño(a) de casa.
Dueño(a) de casa: Guarde el Manual de uso y cuidado para
consulta futura y para el uso del inspector de electricidad local
si lo requiere.
Desempaque
IMPORTANTE: Comience en el cuarto donde va a permanecer
el compactador.
1. Saque el compactador de su cartón de embalaje.
2. Saque todos los materiales de embalaje como la cinta
adhesiva y los rellenos de embalaje.
3. Use un detergente suave y agua tibia para quitar el residuo
ceroso ocasionado por el material de embalaje.
4. Seque meticulosamente con un paño suave. Para obtener
más información, vea “Limpieza”.
5. Cerciórese de que el cable eléctrico esté fijo a la
abrazadera del cable en a la parte posterior del
compactador.
6. Coloque los 2 esquinales del cartón en el piso cerca del
compactador.
7. Oprima el pedal para abrir la gaveta del compactador y
saque todo material de embalaje u otro artículo que se
encuentre en la gaveta.
NOTE: No saque la bolsa del compactador.
8. Sujete ambos lados de la gaveta y levante la gaveta para
sacarla del compactador. Coloque la gaveta sobre los
2 esquinales.
9. Coloque los otros 2 esquinales en el piso al costado del
compactador.
10. Sujete ambos lados del gabinete del compactador y
recueste el compactador sobre los esquinales.
11. Quite la base de embalaje del fondo del compactador.

Método recomendado de conexión a tierra
Este compactador emplea un suministro eléctrico monofásico,
debidamente conectado a tierra, de 115 voltios, 60 Hz, CA
solamente, de 15 ó 20 amperios, protegido con fusibles, y está
equipado con un enchufe de tierra tal como se ilustra a
continuación. Asimismo se recomienda el empleo de un circuito
exclusivo para este aparato.
Este compactador debe mantenerse conectado a tierra
mientras esté en uso para reducir el riesgo de choque eléctrico.
El compactador viene equipado con un cable eléctrico de tres
conductores y un enchufe de tres terminales del tipo conectado
a tierra para que pueda encajar en el tomacorriente conectado
a tierra apropiado. El conductor verde (o verde y amarillo) del
cable eléctrico es el alambre de conexión a tierra. No conecte
el alambre verde (o verde y amarillo) a un terminal con
corriente.

Herramientas necesarias
Reúna las herramientas y piezas necesarias antes de comenzar
la instalación.
IMPORTANTE:
■Deslice el compactador hacia un cartón o un tablero antes
de desplazarlo por el piso para evitar que el revestimiento
del piso se dañe.
■Al levantar o mover el compactador no deje que el marco
posterior del compactador toque el revestimiento del piso.
Instalación
1. Mida la altura de la abertura del armario de la cocina. La
parte superior del compactador deberá estar por lo menos
a ¹⁄₈" (3 mm) de distancia de la parte superior de la
abertura del armario de la cocina.
Las ruedas posteriores están prefijadas para una altura de
34¹⁄₄" (87 cm) de abertura del armario de la cocina
(posición 1).
Para regular para otras alturas de abertura de armarios de
cocina:
■Afloje el tornillo autorroscante lo suficiente para quitar
el perno del orificio en la posición 1.
■Mueva la rueda posterior y el perno a la posición 2 ó
3 según lo requiera la medida de la abertura del
armario:
Posición 2: de 34¹⁄₄" a 34⁷⁄₁₆" (87 a 87,5 cm)
Posición 3: de 34⁷⁄₁₆" a 34⁵⁄₈" (87,5 a 88 cm)
NOTA: Para nivelar el aparato en la posición 3, quizás
necesite agregar calzas debajo de las patas
niveladoras delanteras.
■Apriete el tornillo. Repita el procedimiento para la otra
rueda posterior.
2. Use alicates para bajar las patas niveladoras delanteras del
gabinete del compactador. Regule las patas de modo que
quede un espacio de ¹⁄₈" (3 mm) a ¹⁄₄" (6,4 mm) entre la
parte superior del compactador y la parte superior de la
abertura del armario de la cocina. Coloque el compactador
de pie.
3. Mueva el compactador cerca de su posición final.
4. Para instalar la manija:
■Inserte los tornillos en los orificios desde el interior de la
gaveta.
■Coloque la manija en la parte frontal de la gaveta y
alinee los orificios de los tornillos de la manija con los
extremos de los tornillos. (La manija deberá tener la
apariencia de una “sonrisa” cuando esté instalada.)
■Apriete firmemente los tornillos.
5. Conecte a un contacto de pared de conexión a tierra de
3terminales.
6. Decida si desea el gabinete del compactador o el frente de
la gaveta nivelado con el frente del armario de la cocina.
Usando 2 tornillos de montaje #8 - 18 x ⁵⁄₁₆" (provistos),
instale los soportes de retención en la parte superior del
gabinete del compactador según sea necesario.
■Si el frente del gabinete del compactador va a quedar
nivelado con el frente del armario de la cocina, coloque
los tornillos de montaje del soporte de retención a través
de “1”.

■Si el frente de la gaveta del compactador va a quedar
nivelado con el frente del armario de la cocina, coloque
los tornillos de montaje del soporte de retención a través
de “3”.
■Si el compactador va a estar en posición intermedia
entre “1” y “3”, coloque los tornillos de montaje del
soporte de retención a través de “2”.
7. Levante lenta y ligeramente el frente y haga rodar el
compactador hacia la abertura del armario de la cocina.
8. Usando dos tornillos de montaje #8 - 18 x ¹⁄₂" (provistos),
sujete los soportes de retención al mostrador con los tornillos
de montaje.

NOTA: Si no se pueden fijar los soportes de retención a la
parte inferior del mostrador, fije las abrazaderas de
montaje (provistas) a los soportes de retención. Sujete el
compactador al frente del armario de la cocina utilizando
los tornillos de montaje a través de las abrazaderas de
montaje.

9. Sujete ambos lados de la gaveta del compactador y
coloque la parte inferior de la gaveta en los rieles.
Levántela en la parte de la manija de modo que pase los
topes de la gaveta. Cierre la gaveta. Fíjese si la gaveta se
abre con facilidad. Si la placa de base roza el piso vea
“Ajuste de la placa de base” para obtener instrucciones
adicionales.
Ajuste de la placa de base
Si la placa de base roza el revestimiento del piso, el espacio
libre de la placa de base puede cambiarse como sigue:
1. Marque a cada lado de la placa de base la cantidad de la
placa de base que roza el revestimiento del piso.
2. Saque la gaveta del aparato. Vea el paso 3 en la sección
“Desempaque”.
3. Use una regla y un lápiz o una tiza para trazar una línea
entre las marcas laterales de la placa de base.
4. Use las tijeras o el cuchillo de uso general para cortar la
placa de base a lo largo de la línea.
5. Vuelva a colocar la gaveta. Si la placa de base todavía
roza el revestimiento del piso, repita los pasos del 1 al 4.
