Pleasereadthefollowingprecautionscarefullybeforeperformingtheairbagsystemservice.Observetheinstructions
describedinthismanual,ortheairbagscouldaccidentallydeployandcausedamageorinjuries.
• Exceptwhenperformingelectricalinspections,alwaysturntheignitionswitchOFFanddisconnectthenegative
cablefromthebattery,andwaitatleastthreeminutesbeforebeginningwork.
ThecontentsinthememoryisnoterasedeveniftheignitionswitchisturnedOFForthebatterycablesare
disconnectedfromthebattery.
• Usethereplacementpartswhicharemanufacturedtothesamestandardsastheoriginalpartsandquality.
DonotinstallusedSRSpartsfromanothervehicle.
UseonlynewpartswhenmakingSRSrepairs.
• CarefullyinspectanySRSpartbeforeyouinstallit.
Donotinstallanypartthatshowssignsofbeingdroppedorimproperlyhandled,suchasdents,cracksor
deformation.
• BeforeremovinganyoftheSRSparts(includingthedisconnectionoftheconnectors),alwaysdisconnecttheSRS
connector.
AirbagHandlingandStorage
Donotdisassembletheairbags;ithasnoserviceableparts.Onceanairbaghasbeendeployed,itcannotberepairedor
reused.
Fortemporarystorageoftheairbagduringservice,pleaseobservethefollowingprecautions.
• Storetheremovedairbagwiththepadsurfaceup.
• Keepfreefromanyoil,grease,detergent,orwatertopreventdamagetotheairbagassembly.

• Storetheremovedairbagonsecure,flatsurfaceawayfromanyhighheatsource(exceeding85°C/185°F).
• Neverperformelectricalinspectionstotheairbags,suchasmeasuringresistance.
• Donotpositionyourselfinfrontoftheairbagassemblyduringremoval,inspection,orreplacement.
• Refertothescrappingproceduresfordisposalofthedamagedairbag.
• BecarefulnottobumporimpacttheSRSunitorthesideimpactsensorswhenevertheignitionswitchisON,wait
atleastthreeminutesaftertheignitionswitchisturnedOFFbeforebeginwork.
• Duringinstallationorreplacement,becarefulnottobump(byimpactwrench,hammer,etc.)theareaaroundthe
SRSunitandthesideimpactsensor.Theairbagscouldaccidentallydeployandcausedamageorinjury.
• Afteracollisioninwhichtheairbagsweredeployed,replacethefrontairbagsandtheSRSunit.Afteracollisionin
whichthesideairbagwasdeployed,replacethesideairbag,thefrontimpactsensorandsideimpactsensoronthe
sidewherethesideairbagdeployedandtheSRSunit.Afteracollisioninwhichtheairbagsorthesideairbagsdid
notdeploy,inspectforanydamageoranydeformationontheSRSunitandthesideimpactsensors.Ifthereisany
damage,replacetheSRSunit,thefrontimpactsensorand/orthesideimpactsensors.
• DonotdisassembletheSRSunit,thefrontimpactsensororthesideimpactsensors
• TurntheignitionswitchOFF,disconnectthebatterynegativecableandwaitatleastthreeminutesbeforebeginning
installationorreplacementoftheSRSunit.
• BesuretheSRSunit,thefrontimpactsensorandsideimpactsensorsareinstalledsecurelywiththemounting
bolts.
• DonotspillwateroroilontheSRSunit,orthefrontimpactsensororthesideimpactsensorsandkeepthemaway
fromdust.
• StoretheSRSunit,thefrontimpactsensorandthesideimpactsensorsinacool(lessthan104°F/40°C)anddry
(lessthan80%relativehumidity,nomoisture)area.
WiringPrecautions
SRSwiringcanbeidentifiedbyspecialyellowoutercovering(excepttheSRScircuitsunderthefrontseats).
Observetheinstructionsdescribedinthissection.
• Neverattempttomodify,splice,orrepairSRSwiring.
IfthereisanopenordamageinSRSwiring,replacetheharness.

• Besuretoinstalltheharnesswiressothattheyarenotpinched,orinterferewithotherparts.
• MakesureallSRSgroundlocationsareclean,andgroundsaresecurelyfastenedforoptimummetaltometal
contact.Poorgroundingcancauseintermittentproblemsthataredifficulttodiagnose.
PrecautionsforElectricalInspections
• Whenusingelectricaltestequipment,inserttheprobeofthetesterintothewiresideoftheconnector.
Donotinserttheprobeofthetesterintotheterminalsideoftheconnector,anddonottamperwiththeconnector.
• Useaushapedprobe.Donotinserttheprobeforcibly.
• Usespecificedserviceconnectorsfortroubleshooting.
Usingimpropertoolscouldcauseanerrorininspectionduetopoormetalcontact.

LampisturnedONtoinformthedriverthatthePABisdisabled.
AssoonasoperatingvoltageisappliedtotheSRSCMignitioninput,theSRSCMactivatestelltalelampproveout.
OCSwillsendanindeterminatestatustotheSRSCMasadefaultsettingforpassengerairbagdeploymentduringthe
proveoutperiod.AftercrashifOCSgetsresetandsendstheindeterminatestatus,thetelltalelampwillbeONaslong

Description
Thesupplementalrestraintsystem(SRS)isdesignedtosupplementtheseatbelttohelpreducetheriskorseverityof
injurytothedriverandpassengerbyactivatinganddeployingthedriver,passenger,sideairbagandbeltpretensioner
incertainfrontalorsidecollisions.
TheSRS(Airbag)consistsof:adriversideairbagmodulelocatedinthecenterofthesteeringwheel,whichcontains
thefoldedcushionandaninflatorunit;apassengersideairbagmodulelocatedinthepassengersidecrashpad
containsthefoldedcushionassembledwithinflatorunit;sideairbagmoduleslocatedinthedriverandpassengerseat
containthefoldedcushionandaninflatorunit;curtainairbagmoduleslocatedinsideoftheheadlinerwhichcontains
foldedcushionsandinflatorunits.ThePassengerOccupantclassificationSystem(OCS)utilizesbladderplaced
betweenthepassengerseatcushionandsuspensiontomeasuretheoccupant’sloadingforceonthevehicleseat.Seat
TrackPositionSensor(STPS)locatedindriverandpassengerseatinterfaceswithSRSCMandwillhelpindetermining
whethertosuppresseitherstageofamultistageairbagsystem.SRSCMislocatedunderthecenterconsole.The
impactsensingfunctionoftheSRSCMiscarriedoutbyelectronicaccelerometerthatcontinuouslymeasurethe
vehicle'saccelerationanddeliversacorrespondingsignalthroughamplifyingandfilteringcircuitrytothe
microprocessor.

1. DC/DCconverter:DC/DCconverterinpowersupplyunitincludesup/downtransformerconverter,andprovideignition
voltagefor2frontairbagignitioncircuitsandtheinternaloperationvoltageoftheSRSCM.Iftheinternaloperation
voltageisbelowcriticalvaluesetting,itwillperformresetting.
2. Safetysensor:Safetysensorislocatedinairbagignitioncircuit.Safetysensorwilloperateairbagcircuitatany
deploymentconditionandreleaseairbagcircuitsafelyatnormaldrivingcondition.Safetysensorisadoublecontact
electromechanicalswitchthatwillclosedetectingdecelerationabovecertaincriteria.
3. Backuppowersupply:SRSCMhasseparatebackuppowersupply,thatwillsupplydeploymentenergyinstantlyin
lowvoltageconditionoruponpowerfailurebyfrontcrash.
4. Selfdiagnosis:SRSCMwillconstantlymonitorcurrentSRSoperationstatusanddetectsystemfailurewhilevehicle
powersupplyison,systemfailuremaybecheckedwithtroublecodesusingscantool.(HiScan)
5. Airbagwarninglampon:Upondetectingerror,themodulewilltransmitsignaltoSRSCMindicatorlamplocatedat
cluster.MILlampwillindicatedriverSRSerror.Uponignitionkeyon,SRSlampwillturnonforaboutsixseconds.
6. Troublecoderegistration:Uponerroroccurrenceinsystem,SRSCMwillstoreDTCcorrespondingtotheerror.DTC
canbeclearedonlybyHiScan.However,ifaninternalfaultcodeisloggedorifacrashisrecordedthefaultclearing
shouldnothappen.
7. Selfdiagnosticconnector:DatastoredinSRSCMmemorywillbeoutputtoHiScanorotherexternaloutputdevices
throughconnectorlocatedbelowdriversidecrashpad.
8. Onceairbagisdeployed,SRSCMshouldnotbeusedagainbutreplaced.
9. SRSCMwilldeterminewhetherpassengerputonseatbeltbythesignalfrombuiltinswitchinseatbeltbuckle,and
deployfrontseatairbagateachsetcrashspeed.
10. SideairbagdeploymentwillbedeterminedbySRSCMthatwilldetectsatellitesensorimpactsignaluponside
crash,irrespectivetoseatbeltcondition.

TheprimarypurposeoftheadvancedSRSCM(SupplementalRestraintsSystemControlModule)istodiscriminate
betweenaneventthatwarrantsrestraintsystemdeploymentandaneventthatdoesnot.TheadvancedSRSCMmust
decideifandwhentodeploytherestraintsystempretensionersandairbags.Afterdeterminingthatpretensionersand/or
airbagdeploymentisrequired,theadvancedSRSCMmustsupplysufficientpowertothepretensionersandairbag
igniterstoinitiatedeployment.TheadvancedSRSCMdeterminesthatanimpactmayrequiredeploymentofthe
pretensionersandairbagsfromdataobtainedfrombuckleswitches,seattrackpositionsensors,occupantclassification
system,frontimpactsensorsandsideimpactsensorsinconjunctionwithasafingfunction.
TheadvancedSRSCMwillnotbereadytodetectacrashortoactivatetherestraintsystemdevicesuntilthesignalsin
theadvancedSRSCMcircuitrystabilize.ItispossiblethattheadvancedSRSCMcouldactivatethesafetyrestraint
devicesinapproximately2secondsbutisguaranteedtofullyfunctionafterproveoutiscompleted.Theadvanced
SRSCMmustperformadiagnosticroutineandlightasystemreadinessindicatoratkeyon.Thesystemmustperform
acontinuousdiagnosticroutineandprovidefaultannunciationthroughawarninglampindicatorintheeventoffault
detection.Aserialdiagnosticcommunicationinterfacewillbeusedtofacilitateservicingoftheadvancedrestraint
controlsystem.

2. Removeignitionkeyfromthevehicle.
3. DisconnecttheDAB,PAB,SAB,CABandBPTconnectors.
4. Removethecenterconsole(RefertoBDgroupintheServiceManual).
5. DisconnecttheSRSCMharnessconnector(A)fromtheSRSCM(B).
6. RemovetheSRSCMmountingboltsfromtheSRSCMthenremovetheSRSCM.
INSTALLATION
1. Disconnectthenegative()cablefrombatteryandwaitforatleastthreeminutes.
2. Removeignitionkeyfromthevehicle.
3. InstalltheSRSCMwiththeSRSCMmountingbolts.
TighteningTorque(SRSCMMountingBolt)
:6.9~8.8N·m(5.1~6.5lb·ft)
4. ConnecttheSRSCMharnessconnector.
5. Installthecenterconsole.
6. ConnecttheDAB,PAB,SAB,CABandBPTconnectors.
7. AfterinstallingtheSRSCM,confirmpropersystemoperation:
A. TurntheignitionswitchON;theSRSindicatorlightshouldbeturnedonforaboutsixsecondsandthengooff.

beltpretensionersysteminthevehicle.InthedialogbetweentheSRSCMandthefrontimpactsensoritistheSRSCM
