Your safety and the safety of others are very important.
We have provided many important safety messages in this manual and on your
appliance. Always read and obey all safety messages.
This is the safety alert symbol.
This symbol alerts you to potential hazards that can kill or hurt you
and others.
All safety messages will follow the safety alert symbol and either the

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed,

1. Read all instructions.

Parts and Features
Keep Warm
If the food is not removed within 45 seconds
of the end of a cycle, the toaster will
automatically lower the food and activate a
“Keep Warm” cycle using low heat for up to
3 minutes. The KEEP WARM indicator will
light while this cycle is active. You can cancel
this cycle at any time by pressing TOAST/
CANCEL.
Shade Control & Countdown Timer
Precisely sets the desired brownness level.
Indicator lights show the setting at a glance.
During toasting, lights on the shade setting
bar will blink to indicate time left in the
toasting cycle.
Bagel
Your toaster features a special setting for
toasting bagels, ensuring optimal heat
and time for the best results. The heating
elements will adjust to nicely toast the inside
of a cut bagel without burning the bagel’s
outside surface.
Frozen
Your toaster features a Frozen mode for
gently defrosting frozen bread before
toasting. Use Frozen for frozen foods only.
A Little Longer
If you have a preferred brownness setting
but would like to toast something “a little
longer”, you can do so at the touch of a
button, without changing your favorite
setting.
Toast/Cancel
This is an automatic toaster. As soon as
bread is placed in either slot it will begin
to lower and toasting will begin using the
selected settings. Some food may be too
light to trigger automatic toasting. If the food
does not begin to drop after 3 seconds press
TOAST/CANCEL to start the cycle manually.
Press again to cancel a toasting cycle already
in process, or to end a Keep Warm cycle.
Using Your Toaster
Before using your toaster, check the
extra-wide slots and remove any packing
or printed material that might have fallen
inside during shipping or handling. Do not
probe inside the toaster with a metal object.
You may see light smoke the rst time you
use the toaster. This is normal. The smoke is
harmless and will soon disappear.

Using Your Toaster
Making Toast
1. Shorten cord, if necessary, by wrapping
cord under the base. The toaster’s feet
are tall enough to allow the cord to exit
from under any side of the toaster.
Electrical Shock Hazard
Plug into a grounded 3 prong
outlet.
Do not remove ground prong.
Do not use an adapter.
Do not use an extension cord.
Failure to follow these
instructions can result in
death, fire, or electrical shock.
WARNING
2. Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet.
3. Move the Shade Control to select the
degree of brownness you want. Move
the Shade Control to the right for darker
toast or to the left for lighter. The
indicator lights will display the shade
level, from Light to Dark.
NOTE: Different types of bread and their
moisture levels may require different
shade settings. For example, dry bread
will brown more rapidly than moist bread
and will require a lighter setting.
4. Insert bread or other food to be toasted
in slot(s).
NOTE: For even toasting on 2-slot models,
toast only one bread type and thickness at
a time. If toasting two different types or
thicknesses of bread with 4-slot models with
Dual Independent Controls, be sure to toast
only one bread type in each pair of slots.
5. As soon as bread is
placed in either slot it
will automatically begin
to lower and toasting will
begin. Some food may
be too light to trigger
automatic toasting. If the food does
not begin to drop after 3 seconds press
TOAST/CANCEL to start the cycle
manually.
6. (Optional) Press desired special toasting
function button within 5 seconds. See the
“Special Toasting Functions” section for
more information.
7. When the toaster is nished, it will
automatically raise the food and a signal
will sound. If food is not removed within
45 seconds, the toaster will enter Keep
Warm mode.
8. To cancel toasting at any time, press
TOAST/CANCEL. The toaster will raise
the toast and turn off.

Special Toasting Functions
Toasting Bagels
Your toaster features a special setting for
toasting bagels, ensuring optimal heat
and time for the best results. The heating
elements will adjust to nicely toast the inside
of a cut bagel without burning the bagel’s
outside surface.
1. With the Shade Control
set to the desired level of
brownness, press the
BAGEL button.
2. Insert bagel halves with
the cut sides facing in, as
shown. The toaster will
automatically lower the bagel
and start toasting.
3. When the bagel is ready, the toaster will
raise it and a signal will beep. If bagel
is not removed within 45 seconds, the
toaster will enter Keep Warm mode.
Toasting Frozen Items
Your toaster features a Frozen mode for
gently defrosting frozen bread before
toasting. Use Frozen for frozen foods only.
For regular bread and similar foods:
1. With the desired
brownness level selected,
press the FROZEN button.
2. Insert frozen bread into
the toaster slots.
3. The toaster will
automatically lower the bread, run a
defrosting cycle to thaw the bread, then
toast it to the desired brownness setting.
For frozen bagels:
1. With the desired brownness level
selected, press the BAGEL button then
the FROZEN button.
2. Insert frozen bagel into the toaster slots.
3. The toaster will automatically lower the
bagel, run a defrosting cycle to thaw
the bagel, then toast it to the desired
brownness setting.
Keep Warm
If the food is not removed within 45 seconds
of the end of a cycle, the toaster will
automatically lower the food and activate a

3 minutes. The KEEP WARM indicator will
light while this cycle is active.
To cancel Keep Warm mode and
remove toast:
Press the TOAST/CANCEL
button once. The toast will
come up and the toaster will
turn off.
If toast is not removed within
3 minutes, the toast will come up
and the toaster will automatically
turn off.

1. Unplug the toaster and let it cool before
cleaning.
2. Grasp the center of the crumb tray then
slide it out. Shake the crumbs into a
waste container. It is recommended that
the crumb tray be emptied after each
use. Crumb tray is hand-wash only.
IMPORTANT: The tray will be hot
immediately following a toasting cycle.
3. Wipe toaster with a soft, damp cotton
cloth. Do not use paper towels, abrasive
cleansers or liquid cleaning products.
Do not immerse toaster in water.
NOTE: If grease or oil splatters on the
toaster, wipe splatters away immediately
using a clean, damp cotton cloth.
4. Return crumb tray to toaster. Press it in
rmly until it clicks into position. Do not
use the toaster without the crumb tray in
proper position.
NOTE: KitchenAid does not recommend
the use of a toaster cover.
Special Toasting Functions
A Little Longer
If you have a preferred brownness setting
but would like to toast something “a little
longer”, you can do so at the touch of a
button, without changing your favorite
setting.
To use this feature after a toasting cycle is
complete:
1. Wait for the food to raise automatically.
A signal will sound.
2. If you desire more
browning, just press A
LITTLE LONGER and the
food will resume toasting.
3. When the toaster is
nished, it will automatically raise the
food and a signal will sound. If food is not
removed within 45 seconds, the toaster
will enter Keep Warm mode.
Caring for Your Toaster
NOTE: This feature may also be used to
extend the toasting time from the beginning
of the cycle.
1. Insert bread or other food to be toasted
in slot(s).
2. Wait for the bread to lower automatically,
or press TOAST/CANCEL to start the
cycle.
3. Press the A LITTLE LONGER button.
4. The toaster will extend toasting time.
5. When the toaster is nished, it will
automatically raise the food and a signal
will sound. If food is not removed within
45 seconds, the toaster will enter Keep
Warm mode.

If your toaster should fail to operate,
check the following:
1. Check that the toaster is plugged into a
grounded 3-prong electrical outlet. If it is,
unplug the toaster.
2. Plug in toaster.

Tous les messages de sécurité suivront le symbole d’alerte de

REMARQUE : Votre grille-pain possède une
prise de mise à la terre à 3 broches. Pour
réduire le risque de choc électrique, cette
che ne peut être insérée dans une prise que
dans un seul sens. Si cette che ne convient
pas à la prise, contacter un électricien
qualié. Ne pas modier la prise de quelque
manière que ce soit.

On doit utiliser un cordon d’alimentation
court (ou détachable) an de réduire le
risque qu’une personne s’emmêle dans un
cordon d’alimentation qui serait plus long ou
trébuche dessus.
Des cordons d’alimentation détachables ou
de rallonge plus longs sont disponibles et
peuvent être utilisés s’ils sont employés avec
précaution.
Si on utilise un cordon d’alimentation
détachable ou de rallonge plus long :
• Les caractéristiques électriques indiquées
de l’ensemble de cordon ou de rallonge
doivent être au moins aussi élevées que les
caractéristiques électriques de l’appareil.
• Le cordon doit être disposé de sorte qu’il
ne pende pas par dessus le plan de travail
ou la table de cuisine, où des enfants
pourraient tirer dessus ou trébucher
dessus involontairement.
Si l’appareil comporte une mise à la terre, la
rallonge doit être un cordon de type mise à
la terre à 3 conducteurs.

Les fentes extra larges vous permettent de
griller sans effort le pain, les bagels et les
mufns anglais d’une épaisseur maximale
de 11/8" (2,8 cm). Les grilles auto-centrées
aident à garantir un chauffage uniforme
pour les tranches de pain nes ou épaisses.
Un mécanisme de soulèvement automatique

Maintien au chaud
Si l’on ne retire pas les aliments dans les 45
secondes qui suivent la n d’un programme,
le grille-pain rabaisse automatiquement
l’aliment et active un programme « Maintien
au chaud » qui utilise un faible niveau de
chaleur pendant un maximum de 3 minutes.
Le témoin de MAINTIEN AU CHAUD
s’allume lorsque ce programme est actif.
On peut annuler ce programme à tout
moment en appuyant sur TOAST/ CANCEL
(brunissement/annulation).
Minuterie et contrôle de
brunissement
Règle le degré de brunissement souhaité
avec précision. Les témoins lumineux
donnent un aperçu rapide du réglage.
Durant le brunissement, les témoins de la
barre de réglage du brunissement clignotent
pour indiquer la durée restante dans le
programme du brunissement .
Bagel
Le grille-pain comporte un réglage spécial
pour le brunissement des bagels, assurant
ainsi un chauffage et une durée optimaux
pour de meilleurs résultats. Les éléments
de chauffage s’ajustent pour faire griller
l’intérieur d’un bagel coupé en deux sans
toutefois brûler la surface extérieure
du bagel.
Pain surgelé
Votre grille-pain comporte un mode Pain
surgelé pour décongeler en douceur les pains
surgelés avant de les faire griller. Utiliser
le mode Pain surgelé uniquement pour les
aliments surgelés.
Un peu plus longtemps
Si vous possédez un réglage de brunissement
favori mais que vous souhaitez faire griller
quelque chose « un peu plus longtemps »,
vous pouvez le faire sur simple pression
d’un bouton sans avoir à modier votre
réglage favori.
Brunissement /annulation
Ce grille-pain est automatique. Dès que
le pain est placé dans une des fentes,
l’appareil commence à l’abaisser et le
brunissement commence à l’aide des
réglages sélectionnés. Certains aliments
seront peut-être trop légers pour déclencher
un brunissement automatique. Si les aliments
ne commencent pas à s’abaisser au bout de
3 secondes, appuyer sur TOAST/CANCEL
(brunissement/annulation) pour démarrer
un programme manuellement. Appuyer
de nouveau sur ce bouton pour annuler un
programme de brunissement en cours ou
pour terminer un programme Maintien au
chaud.

Utilisation du grille-pain
Faire des toasts
1. Raccourcir le cordon si nécessaire en
l’enroulant sous le socle. Les pieds du
grille-pain sont sufsamment grands
pour permettre de sortir le cordon sous
n’importe quel côté du grille-pain.
2. Brancher l’appareil dans une prise à 3
alvéoles reliée à la terre.
3. Déplacer la manette de brunissement
pour sélectionner le degré de
brunissement souhaité. Déplacer
la manette vers la droite pour un
brunissement plus intense ou vers la
gauche pour un brunissement plus faible.
Les témoins lumineux afchent le degré
de brunissement, de faible à élevé.
REMARQUE : Différents types de pain
et leurs degrés d’humidité respectifs
peuvent exiger différents réglages de
brunissement. Par exemple, du pain sec
grillera plus rapidement que du pain frais
et exigera un réglage plus faible.
4. Insérez du pain ou un autre aliment à faire
griller dans la/les fente(s).
REMARQUE : Pour un brunissement
uniforme sur les modèles à doubles fentes,
ne faire griller qu’un seul type de pain à la fois
et des tranches de même épaisseur. Si l’on
fait griller deux tranches de pain d’épaisseur
différente sur le modèle à 4 fentes avec
doubles commandes indépendantes, veiller
à ne faire griller qu’un seul type de pain dans
chaque paire de fentes.
5. Dès que le pain est placé dans une
des fentes, l’appareil commence
automatiquement à l’abaisser et le
brunissement commence. Certains
aliments seront peut-être trop légers
pour déclencher un brunissement

Avant d’utiliser le grille-pain, inspecter les
fentes extra larges et retirer tout emballage
ou document papier qui aurait pu tomber
à l’intérieur durant l’expédition ou la
manipulation de l’appareil. Ne pas insérer
d’objet métallique dans le grille-pain.
Vous verrez peut-être une légère fumée
lors de la première utilisation du grille-pain.
Ceci est normal. La fumée est inoffensive et
disparaîtra bientôt.
