1 Basic Information
1 Basic Information
1.1 Notes for the User Manual
This user manual describes the structure of the KLEIBER KG 315 - K USB infrared pyrometer for non-contact
temperature measurement and gives the operators all the necessary information related to installation, op-
eration, de-installation along with information related to maintenance and repairs of the pyrometer. When
malfunctions occur, the user manual provides suggestions for their potential causes and their repair.
This user manual is intended for qualified service and maintenance personnel with appropriate technical ex-
pertise including a basic knowledge of temperature measuring technology.
Before you use the pyrometer for temperature measurement, you must have read and understood these oper-
ating instructions! Keep the manual so that it is available at all times.
Take into account all the requirements given in this user manual. This is a precondition for:
• The correct and professional use of the pyrometer
• Proper maintenance, cleaning and care of the pyrometer
• Prevention of risks and strict observance of the essential technical safety regulations
1.2 Document Structure and Symbols
Operating instructions to be performed in sequence are numbered in chronological order. They are grouped
together in operational units and accompanied by the corresponding results.
Listings without a sequential order are presented as bullet points and items in sub-lists are preceded by
dashes.
Safety precautions are shown with pictograms and key words. They provide information about the type,
source and consequences of the hazard, and safety precautions. The meanings of the pictograms and key
words are explained in Safety (section 2) at page 3.
1.3 Intended Use
The KLEIBER KG 315 - K USB pyrometer is to be used exclusively for the non-contact measurement of surface
temperatures . Any applications beyond that area are not allowed! Any damage resulting from this is the sole
responsibility of the operator.
Proper use of the device also includes:
• The observance of the requirements of these operating instructions for transport and storage, assembly,
operation and care of the pyrometer
• The observance of the power requirements specified in Technical Data (section 4) at page 6 and the
operating and environmental conditions
• The compliance with the legal accident prevention and environmental regulations
Among applications/conditions for which the pyrometer is not intended for use are in particular:
• The use of the pyrometer within medical areas
• The use of the pyrometer in the food industry
• The use of the pyrometer in areas where there is danger of explosion
• The use of the pyrometer outside of the operating and environmental conditions specified in Technical
Data (section 4) at page 6

5 Operation
5.2 Operation
Before operating the KLEIBER KG 315 - K USB the looking though lens is to be adjusted at a bright, white
background (e.g. a sheet of paper) by turning the ocular until the circle-shaped measuring field is visible
sharply at the relaxed eye.
We recommend the using of the grey filter by screwing in the thread of the ocular at high measuring tempera-
tures.
Focusing is done by the looking through lens. To adjust the distance loosen the clamping ring and move the
tube by turning until the measured object is focused sharply. Tighten the clamping ring after focusing.
The measuring button is a two step button. By pressing and holding the button in the first position, the infrared
thermometer will be activated and switched to the measuring mode. The point to be measured can be searched
by moving the instrument. Depending on the chosen configuration the measured value, the average value or
the peak value are displayed in the looking through lens and at the rear panel display.
By pressing the measuring button to the second step the value will be stored to the next storage position. The
success of the writing procedure is shown by a long beep. If there are any problems writing the value (e.g.
exceeding limits) ten short beeps are to be heard. The measured values are stored according to the used
modes. For the Classic mode the measured values are stored one after another, that means one row will be
filled up until one hundred measuring values. After the row is filled the instrument starts to fill the next row from
point 001.
5.2.1 Recording modes
The KLEIBER KG 315 - K USB can be equipped with various measuring modes. Which it is or they are, is
listed on the inspection sheet.
Classic Standard mode. There can 2000 measuring values in 20 rows at 100 measuring values
be saved.
Classic Extended Standard mode with additional options. The number of rows and values is variable. In
addition, more settings are available in the configuration menu.
Ways Ways are measurement points with definable names in any order. The pyrometer can
permanently store, in dependence on its size, several routes. These can be processed
and the measurement values are stored by the individual measuring points.
5.2.2 Internal rechargeable battery charge
Insert the rechargeable 1.2 V batteries, come with the instrument, into the Battery compartment of the infrared
thermometer.
CAUTION:
Pay attention to polarity!
Connect the recharger type Charging unit ACS 110 for internal charging with the recharging joint on the front
side of the instrument. Recharging starts after a short testing phase (app. 10 sec.). After recharging the red
LED switches off and the trickle charging will start automatically (green LED glows). If a defective recharge-
able battery is inserted, the red LED will flicker. A defective rechargeable battery is easy to locate by using the
optional recharger Charging unit Voltcraft for external charging and must be replaced.
CAUTION:
Never connect the recharger to the instrument with no rechargeable batteries inserted!

5.2.6 Data transmission to PC
Using the software KG 315 - K USB Pyroskop Control included with the infrared interface, it is easily possible
to read out the measured data. For this purpose the positioning pins of the infrared interface are inserted into
the positioning aids on the pyrometer.
Figure 4: Position of the infrared interface for data transfer
It is important to ensure that the chamfered side of the interface shows up. The USB connector is connected
to a free USB port on the PC.
The Software KG 315 - K USB Pyroskop Control is explained in a separate manual.
5.3 Configuration
5.3.1 Selection of values
