General Safety Rules:
WARNING! Read and understand all instructions. Failure to follow all
instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
WARNING! The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in
this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions or situa-
tions that could occur. It must be understood by the operator that
common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this
product, but must be supplied by the operator.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
WORK AREA
• Keep work area clean, free of clutter and well lit. Cluttered and dark work
areas can cause accidents.
• Do not use your tool where there is a risk of causing a fire or an
explosion; e.g. in the presence of flammable liquids, gasses, or dust. Power
tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control, so visitors should remain at a safe
distance from the work area.
• Be aware of all power lines, electrical circuits, water pipes and other
mechanical hazards in your workarea, particularly those hazards below the
work surface hidden from the operator's view that may be unintentionally
contacted and may cause personal harm or property damage.
• Be alert of your surroundings. Using power tools in confined work areas
may put you dangerously close to cutting tools and rotating parts.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! Always check to ensure the power supply corresponds to the
voltage on the rating plate.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never carry a portable tool by its power cord, or
yank tool or extension cords from the receptacle. Keep power and extension
cords away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace damaged
cords immediately. Damaged cords may cause a fire and increase the risk of
electric shock.
• Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and
grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. Never remove the
grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs.
Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is
properly grounded.
12

Safety instructions:
• Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is
wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still doesn't fit, contact a
qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in any
way.
• Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your
body is grounded.
• When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord
marked “W-A” or “W.” These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk
of electric shock.
• Extension Cord Use:
A. Use only 'Listed' extension cords. If used outdoors, they must be
marked “For Outdoor Use.” Cords having 3-prong grounding type plugs and
mating receptacles are to be used with grounded tools.
B. Replace damaged or worn cords immediately.
C. Check the name plate rating of your tool. Use of improper size or gauge
of extension cord may cause unsafe or inefficient operation of your tool. Be sure
your extension cord is rated to allow sufficient current flow to the motor. For the
proper wire gauge for your tool, see chart.
CHART FOR MINIMUM WIRE SIZE OF EXTENSION CORD:
If in doubt, use larger cord. Be sure to check voltage requirements of the tool to your
incoming power source.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
• Do not let your fingers touch the terminals of plug when installing to or
removing from the outlet.
• Ground fault circuit interrupters. If work area is not equipped with a
permanently installed Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter outlet (GFCI), use a plug-in
GFCI between power tool or extension cord and power receptacle.
PERSONALSAFETY
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operat-
ing a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operat-
ing power tools may result in serious personal injury.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing, dangling objects, or jewelry.
Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes,
jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Air vents often cover moving
parts and should be avoided.
• Use safety apparel and equipment. Use safety goggles or safety glasses
with side shields which comply with current national standards, or when
needed, a face shield. Use dust mask in dusty work conditions. This applies to
all persons in the work area. Also use non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, gloves,
dust collection systems, and hearing protection when appropriate.
• Avoid accidental starting. Do not carry the power tool with your finger on
the switch. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging tool into
power outlet. In the event of a power failure, while a tool is being used, turn the
switch off to prevent surprise starting when power is restored.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before connecting to the power
supply or turning on the tool. A wrench or key that is left attached to a rotating
part of the tool may result in personal injury.
TOOL USE AND CARE
• Do not force the tool. Tools do a better and safer job when used in the
manner for which they are designed. Plan your work, and use the correct tool
for the job.
• Never use a tool with a malfunctioning switch. Any power tool that cannot
be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired by an autho-
rized service representative before using.
• Disconnect power from tool and place the switch in the locked or off
position before servicing, adjusting, installing accessories or attachments, or
storing. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power
tool accidentally.
• Secure work with clamps or a vise instead of your hand to hold work when
practical. This safety precaution allows for proper tool operation using both
hands.
• Store idle tools. When tools are not is use, store them in a dry, secure
place out of the reach of children. Inspect tools for good working condition prior
to storage and before re-use.
• Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your
model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create a risk of injury
when used on another tool.
• Keep guards in place and in working order.
• Never leave tool running unattended.
• Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation
where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact
with a “live” wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the
operator.

FITTING A BLADE
WARNING! Before carrying out any maintenance or adjustments discon-
nect the saw from the main supply.
Always wear gloves when handing or changing blades as they can be very
sharp. The Reciprocating saw is designed to accept various blades suitable
to cut wood and metal. Your saw comes with 2 blades, 1 for metal and 1 for
wood. We recommend that you buy all your accessories from the store where
you bought the tool. Use good quality accessories with a well known brand
name. Store personnel can help and advise.
Loosen the hexagonal screw on the reciprocating spindle (do not remove
fully). Choose a new blade that is suitable for the task and place it between
the clamping plate and the reciprocating spindle making sure that the hole in
the blade is located on the small peg on the reciprocating spindle. Tighten the
securing hex screw with the supplied hex key.
Do not over tighten.
During use periodically check the hexagonal screw and tighten if necessary.
SWITCHING ON AND OFF
The ON/OFF trigger switch is located in the rear “D” handle grip. To start the
machine squeeze the ON/OFF trigger switch. To stop the machine release
the ON/OFF trigger switch.
CONTINUOUS OPERATION
The lock-on button is located on the side of the rear handle. With the
ON/OFF trigger squeezed and the motor running, engage the lock-on button.
This will lock the ON/OFF trigger switch in the on position. To release the
lock simply press the trigger switch again.
VARIABLE SPEED DIAL
NOTE. Adjusting the speed to suit the application enhances cutting perfor-
mance and saves the blade from undue wear. To determine optimum cutting
speed, first perform test cuts on offcuts of the workpiece.
Rotate the variable speed dial (9), located at the top of the saw to set the
blade speed.
Higher number denotes higher speed.
Position “MIN” denotes the lowest speed, and “MAX” the highest speed.
ADJUSTING CUTTING DEPTH
The shoe can be adjusted to vary the depth of cut. To adjust, loosen the shoe
locking screw (5) located in the casing at the front of the saw, move the shoe

Getting Started:

78
WARNING! Always ensure that the tool is switched off and the plug
removed from the power point before making any adjustments or maintain-
ance procedures.
Keep the tools air vents unclogged and clean at all times.
Regularly check to see if any dust or foreign matter has entered the grills
near the motor and around the trigger switch. Use a soft brush to remove
any accumulated dust. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes while
cleaning.
Re-lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals. If the body of the Recipro-
cating Saw needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft damp cloth. A mild detergent
can be used but nothing like alcohol, petrol or other cleaning agents.
Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.
CAUTION. Water must never come into contact with the Reciprocating
Saw.
GENERAL INSPECTION
Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They may vibrate loose
over time.
If the supply cord requires replacing, the task must be carried out by the
manufacturer, the manufacturers agent, or an authorised service center to
avoid a safety hazard.
PLUG REPLACEMENT
If you need to replace the fitted plug then follow the instructions below.
Important. The wires in the main lead are colored in accordance with the
following code:
Blue-Neutral
Brown-Live
As the colors of the wires in the main cable of this appliance may not corre-
spond with the colored markings identifying the terminals in your plug,
proceed as follows. The blue wire must be connected to the terminal which
is marked with an L or colored red.
WARNING! Never connect live or neutral wires to the grounding
terminal of the plug.
Only fit an approved 13 Amp plug and the correct rated fuse.
NOTE. If a molded plug is fitted and has to be removed take great care in
disposing of the plug and severed cable, it must be destroyed to prevent
engaging into a socket.
to the desired position. Retighten the shoe locking screw to secure the shoe
in position. Maintenance and repair:
Operation:
Connect the plug to the power supply.
GENERAL CUTTING
Hold the saw firmly in front and clearly away from you.
Make sure that the blade is clear of any obstruction and that the power cord
or any extension cord is out of the path of the blade.
Ensure that the material to be cut is held firmly.
Small workpieces should be held in a vice or clamped to the workbench.
Mark out the cutting line.
Squeeze the trigger.
Wait until the saw has reached maximum speed.
Place the shoe on the workpiece and begin sawing.
NOTE. Use only enough pressure to keep the saw cutting. Do not force the
cutting; allow the blade and the saw to do the work.
WARNING. Use of excessive pressure that causes bending or twisting of
the blade may cause the blade to break.
METAL CUTTING
Metals such as sheet steel, pipe, steel rods, aluminium, brass and copper
can be cut with your saw. Be careful not to bend or twist the blade and do
not force the cutting action.
We recommend that you use cutting oil to lubricate the cut when sawing soft
metal and steel. It keeps the blade cooler and prolongs blade life.
CAUTION. Clamp the work firmly and cut close to the clamping point to
minimise vibration. When cutting conduit pipe or angle iron, clamp the work
in a vice if possible and cut close to the vice. To cut thin sheet metal, sand-
wich the sheet between hardborad or plywood and clamp the layers to
prevent vibration and the tearing of the metal.
To make a plunge cut use the shoe to pivot on the workpiece. Start the saw
with the blade well clear of the workpiece and then slowly tilt the saw until it
begins to cut. Continue tilting slowly until the blade has cut all the way
through the workpiece.
WARNING. Make sure that the blade does not touch the workpiece until
the blade has reached maximum speed since this could cause loss of
control and serious injury.
