1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
PRODUCTREQUIREMENTS
Deep rough-in kit #73444 allows an additional 1/2”
(1.3cm) of tile thickness.
Plaster guard diameters are approximately 1-5/8”
(4.1cm) for the valve and 7/8” (2.2cm) for the spout.
Installer-supplied copper tubing to be: 5/8” O.D. (1/2”
nominal).
Install water hammer arrestors in supply lines near
the valves.

INSTALLER INFORMATION
These instructions cover two methods of installation:
installation on finished deck or bath rim, and
installation on rough (unfinished) deck (to be covered
later with tile or other finish material).
Leave protective sleeve on spout supply tube until
spout installation. This is an O-ring sealing surface
which may be damaged when unprotected.
Finish deck material must fit closely to the diameters
of the plaster guards, especially the spout plaster
guard.
Provide an access panel to the valves from the
underside of the deck.
Observe all local plumbing and building codes.
2. INSTALLATION
PREPARATION
For installations with 8” (20.3cm) centers using copper
tubing (1/2” nominal, 5/8” O.D.), cut tubing to the lengths
as follows:
2-pieces: 2-7/8” (7.3cm) long
1-piece: 2-3/8” (6cm) long (for finished deck or bath rim
installation only).
For non-8” (20.3cm) center installations, adjust tubing
lengths as necessary.
INSTALL SPOUTSUPPLY TUBE
Slidebrasswasher frombottomof spoutsupplytubeover
threads until washer reaches supply tube shoulder.
Insert spout supply tube through mounting hole from top
of deck/bath rim. Ensure flat portion of washer faces
forward. Spout supply tube will be suspended by washer.
Slide plate (oriented with tabs toward deck) and washer
onto spout supply tube from bottom and thread on
mounting nut. Tighten nut.
Secure plate to deck or wooden support with two wood
screws.

INSTALL VALVEBODIES
Threadonemounting nut, flangesideup, followedbyone
fiber washer and one rubber washer onto each valve
body.
Insert the 2-7/8” (7.3cm) long copper tubes between the
valve bodies and 1/2” tee. For a finished deck or bath rim
installation only, insert the 2-3/8” (6cm) long copper tube
into top of tee.
Do not solder connections yet.

NOTE: Orient valve body marked “COLD” so it is on the
right when facing the front of the faucet.
Insert valve bodies through mounting holes from bottom
ofdeck/bathrim.Forfinisheddeckorbathriminstallation,
mate copper tube from tee with spout supply tube. Hold
in place.
Place a collar with flange side up on each valve body and
threaddowntoatleast1”(2.5cm)fromtopthreadonvalve
body.
Install threaded sleeve on each valve body until sleeve
bottoms on valve body.
Back up collar until it contacts sleeve. Fig. #3

NOTE: For finished deck/bath rim installations, perform
procedures of this frame. For rough (unfinished) deck
installations, omit procedures in this frame and perform
procedures in frames Fig. #5 thru Fig. #9.
Tighten mounting nuts on each valve body underneath
deck/bath rim.

Solder hot and cold water tubes to valve body inlets.
Ensure cold supply is on right hand side.

Set Valve Body Height: Use one of the following two
formulas to calculate the valve body clearance required
for the finish material at your installation.
If tile to be installed measures less than 1” (2.5cm) thick,
add that measurement to 1-1/4” (3.2cm).
Example#1:Tilethickness(3/4”(1.9cm))+1-1/4”(3.2cm)
= 2” (5.1cm) clearance.
If the tileto beinstalledmeasuresbetween1” (2.5cm)and
1-1/4”(3.2cm)thick,addonly1”(2.5cm)to1-1/4”(3.2cm).
Example #2: Tile thickness (1-1/8” (2.9cm)) =1” (2.5cm)
+ 1-1/4” (3.2cm) = 2-1/4” (5.7cm) clearance.
Adjust threaded collar until the dimension from the top of
the sleeve to the top of the rough deck surface equals the
clearance requirement you calculated.
Note this dimension. You will need to use it again after
connecting the supply tube.

Supply Tube Connection: Measure distance from
bottom of spout supply tube to top of tee.
Add 1” (2.5cm) to this measurement and cut a piece of
1/2”nominal(5/8”O.D.)coppertubingtofitintothesupply
tube and tee port.

Back off threaded collars as far as possible without
removing them. Pivot the valve bodies enough to remove
the tee and two pieces of tubing. (If valve body holes are
smaller than recommended, it may be necessary to
remove the entire valve body assembly.)
Install tubing into tee. Mate copper tube from tee with
spout supply tube. Pivot the valve bodies onto the two
pieces of copper tubing.
Do not solder at this time.

Reset Valve Body Height: Adjust the threaded collars
until the dimension from the top of sleeve to the top of the

Thread 3/8” pipe plug into top of spout supply tube.
Ensurevalvesareclosed(coldfullycounterclockwise,hot
fully clockwise).
Turn on main water supply and check complete
installation for leaks with valves closed and open. Repair
as required.
Close both valves. Turn off main water supply.
WARNING: Risk of personal injury. Lines will be
pressurized.Donotleanoverpipeplugwhenturning
or removing the plug.
Wrapatowel aroundthepipe plugtoprevent waterspray.
Water will purge from the supply tube when you remove
the plug.
Carefully back out pipe plug to relieve pressure.
Thread pipe plug into spout supply tube. Leave pipe plug
installed until spout and handle installation.
Install cardboard plaster guards over both valves and
spout supply tube. Leave in place until spout and handle

INSTALL TILE (IF APPLICABLE)
Verify that there will be a 1” (2.5cm) to 1-1/2” (3.8cm)
distance from the top of the sleeve to the top of the tile.
If not, do not install tile due to improper valve installation.
If proper clearance exists, install tile up to plaster guards
on valves and spout supply tube.
NOTE: The final stem heights for both K-300 and K-301
valves are 1-13/16” (4.6cm) minimum to 2-5/16” (5.9cm)
maximum from the top of the valve to the top of the tile.

INSTALL SPOUT
Remove the plaster guard from the spout supply tube.
Cutoffthespoutsupplytube1-1/4”(3.2cm)abovetherim,
finish deck, or tile.
Be sure all burrs are removed from the supply tube to
prevent damage to the O-ring seal on the sleeve.

rough deck installation only.
Slide the washer, flat side facing forward, on the supply
tube.
NOTE: The washer is not needed for rim/finish deck
installation.

Back off the setscrews in the sleeve, and with a twisting
motion install the sleeve on the spout supply tube until it
contacts the washer surface.
Align the sleeve so the setscrews are not facing directly
forward or backward.
Tighten the setscrews.

Install the spout assembly onto the sleeve, and carefully
press down until the spout base contacts the finished
deck surface.
Align the spout as desired, and tighten the setscrew.
If included, press the plug button into the setscrew hole.

INSTALL HANDLES
Apply plumbers putty or other sealant to the underside of
the escutcheon according to the putty manufacturer’s
instructions. Thread the escutcheon onto the valve body.
Securely hand-tighten. Remove any excess putty or
sealant.
LEVERHANDLE
Measure the distance from top of valve stem to finished
surface. If valve stem height is 2-1/16” (5.2cm) to 2-5/16”
(5.9cm), remove the threaded sleeve and replace it with
thethreadedadaptersuppliedwiththefaucet/handletrim.
Use brass spline adapter and screw when valve stem
height is between 1-13/16” (4.6cm) and 2-1/8” (5.4cm).
Use plastic spline adapter when valve stem height is
between 2-1/8” (5.4cm) and 2-5/16” (5.9cm).
If brass spline adapter is required, attach using the screw
supplied. Plastic spline adapter slides on with no other
attachment. Position the handle assemblies facing in
opposite directions away from the spout assembly. To
attain the proper alignment close the valve
(hot=clockwise, cold=counterclockwise). If the handles
are not properly aligned lift the handle off the spline
adapter and move the spline adapter one or two ridges
until the handle is properly aligned.
Tighten the handle by holding the escutcheon and
tightening the bonnet.
ACRYLICHANDLE
Install the spline adapter. Turn the valve into the off
position (hot=clockwise, cold=counterclockwise).
Position the handle as shown in the second diagram. If
handledoesnot alignproperlyremovethesplineadapter,
turn it 1/4 turn and re-install. Repeat until proper handle
alignment is attained.
Insert the screw and washer and tighten. Push the cap
into place.

3. CHECK INSTALLATION
Ensure that both faucet handles are turned off (hot =
clockwise close; cold = counterclockwise close).
Turn on the main water supply, and check for leaks.
Repair as required.
Turn off both hot and cold valves.

1. ANTES DE COMENZAR
REQUISITO DE LOS PRODUCTOS
El juego para instalaciones profundas #73444
permite un espesor adicional de 1/2” (1,3cm) en el
azulejo.
El diámetro del protector de yeso es de
aproximadamente 1-5/8” (4,1cm) para la válvula y

La tubería de cobre suministrada por el instalador
debe tener: un diámetro exterior de 5/8” (1/2”
nominal).
Instale el amortiguador de choques de agua en las

INFORMACIÓN PARA EL INSTALADOR
Estas instrucciones incluyen dos metódos de
instalación: Instalación sobreunborde ouna cubierta
acabada e instalación en el subpiso (a ser cubierto
con azulejos u otro material acabado).
Deje la manga protectora en el tubo de suministro
hasta instalar el surtidor. La superficie de sellado del
empaque de anillo puede sufrir daños si no está
protegida.
El material de la cubierta acabada debe encajar
cerca de los protectores de yeso, en especial del
protector del surtidor.
Proporcione acceso a las válvulas desde debajo de
la cubierta.
Cumpla con todos los códigos locales de plomería y
de construcción.
2. INSTALACIÓN
PREPARACIÓN
Parainstalacionesconcentrosde8”(20,3cm)queutilizan
tubería de cobre (1/2” nominal, 5/8” diám. ext.), corte la
tubería como sigue:
2 piezas: 2-7/8” (7,3cm) de largo
1 pieza: 2-3/8” (6cm) de largo (sólo para instalaciones
sobre cubierta acabada o reborde de bañera).
Para las demás instalaciones, ajuste la longitud de la
tubería según sea necesario.
INSTALE EL TUBO DE SUMINISTRO DEL
SURTIDOR
Desliceunaarandeladebroncedesdelaparteinferiordel
tubodesuministrodelsurtidorsobrelasroscashastaque
esté en contacto con el reborde del tubo de suministro.
Inserte el tubo de suministro del surtidor a través del
orificios de fijación, desde arriba de la cubierta/borde.
Verifiqueque la parteplana de laarandela esté orientada
hacia el frente. El tubo de suministro estará suspendido
por la arandela.
Deslice la placa (orientada con las lengüetas hacia la
cubierta) y la arandela al tubo de suministro del surtidor
desde la parte inferior, y enrosque la tuerca de montaje.
Asegure la tuerca.
Fije la placa a la cubierta y el soporte de maderacon dos
tornillos para madera.
NOTA:Dejelamangaprotectoraeneltubo desuministro
hasta instalar el surtidor.

INSTALEELCUERPO DE LASVÁLVULAS
Enrosqueunatuercadefijación, conlabridahaciaarriba,
una arandela de fibra y una de goma a cada cuerpo de
válvula.
Inserte tubos de cobre de 2-7/8” (7,3cm) entre los
cuerpos de la válvula y la T de 1/2”. En instalaciones
sobre la cubierta o borde acabado, inserte el tubo de
cobre de 2-3/8” (6cm) en la parte superior de la T.
No solde las conexiones en este momento.

NOTA: Oriente el cuerpo de la válvula marcado “COLD”
hacia la derecha cuando se vea desde la parte frontal del
grifo.
Inserte el cuerpo de las válvulas a través de los orificios
de fijación, desde la parte inferior de la cubierta o del
borde. Para instalaciones sobre cubiertas o bordes de
bañera, conecte el tubo de cobre de la T al tubo de
suministro del surtidor. Sostenga en su lugar.
Coloque un collarín con el lado estrecho hacia arriba en
cada uno de los cuerpos de la válvula y enrosque al
menos 1” (2,5cm) a partir de la parte superior del cuerpo
de la válvula.
Instale la manga roscada en cada uno de los cuerpos de
la válvula hasta que esté en contacto con el cuerpo de la
válvula.
Desenrosque el collarín hasta que toque la manga.

NOTA: Para las instalaciones sobre cubierta o borde de
bañera, complete los procedimientos en este cuadro.
Para instalaciones sobre cubiertas sin acabar omita los
procedimientosenestecuadroyprosigaconlospasosde
la Fig. #5 a la Fig. #9.
Enrosquelastuercasdefijación acadacuerpodeválvula
desde la parte inferior de la cubierta o del borde.
Solde los tubos de cobre a los cuerpos de la válvula, a la
T y al tubo de suministro del surtidor.
Solde los tubos de agua fría y caliente a las entradas del
cuerpo de la válvula. Verifique que el suministro del agua
fría esté a la derecha.
Prosiga a la Sección 3.
