Option E "T” Strike Routing Allows quick change from "T" strike routing to full-lip routing with
the turn of a switch. Cycle slows to approximately four jambs per
minute due to extended router travel path.
Using the KVAL 960-3 Automatic Strike Jamb Router, a
fast operator can machine 5 jambs per minute with a full
lip strike routing pattern. The 960-3 features a fully auto-
matic machine cycle that includes clamp-up and ejection.
Popular options include pushbutton changeover to a "T"
strike routing pattern, and end drilling units for sills and
head jamb screws.
The 960-3 is designed so that router movements are fully
automatic. The router moves in a rectangular pattern for
faceplate and then moves in to route for the deeper latch
hole. Both flat jambs with stop, as well as split jambs, can be accommodated.
Jambs are placed against either a right-hand or left-hand indexing stop and are clamped firmly
into position at the touch of a foot pedal. Standard set-up is for full-lip routing standard.

Safety Terminology of Labels
In addition to the nameplate, KVAL machines may have other warning labels or decals that pro-
vide safety information to operators. Safety labels should be clearly visible to the operator and
must be replaced if missing, damaged, or illegible.
There are three types of warning labels or decals:
• DANGER means if the danger is not avoided, it will cause death or serious injury.
• WARNING means if the warning is not heeded, it can cause death or serious
injury.
• CAUTION means if the precaution is not taken, it may cause minor or moderate
injury.
Safety Guidelines
In addition to the caution and warning labels affixed to this machine, follow the guidelines below
to help ensure the safety of equipment and personnel.

KVAL Operation/Service Manual
Lockout-Tagout Guidelines
• Place a tag on all padlocks. On the tag, each
operator must put their own name and date.
(These locks are only to be removed by the
person who signs the tag)
• If more than one person is working on the
machine, each additional person places a lock
and tag on each disconnect.
• Only each operator may remove their own
lock and tag.
Important: When many people are all working
on the same machine you will need a multiple
lockout device, such as the one shown here.
Follow the P-R-O-P-E-R lockout rule of thumb.
P...... Process shutdown
R ...... Recognize energy type (electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, etc.)
O...... OFF! Shut off all power sources and isolating devices
P...... Place lock and tag

ANCHORINGTHE MACHINE TO THE FLOOR
KVAL Operation/Service Manual
1-12
ANCHORINGTHE MACHINE TO THE FLOOR
When you have set-up and test run your machine to ensure that it is feeding the material properly
KVAL recommends anchoring the machine to the floor with ½ Red head, True Bolt Anchors in
each of the foot pads. An alternative way to bolting the machine, you may want to use Epoxy and
hardened threaded rods to prevent the bolts from vibrating loose. KVAL doesn’t require the use of
epoxy though its added fastening strength is significant.
Standard Anchoring Instructions
• With machine in place and leveled, drill 3” deep holes in the concrete using a 5/8”
dia. masonry bit, using the mounting hole as a guide.
• Clean out holes with an air compressor to ensure that the anchor heads get a firm
bite on the walls of the holes.
• Insert anchors through the mounting holes in the foot pads and into the holes you
have drilled into the concrete. If an anchor’s expansion sleeve binds inside the hole,
simply tap the bolt head with a hammer until the binding stops.
• Tighten bolts until they are snug. Avoid over tightening the bolt as this may cause
the head of the bolt to break.
Anchoring Instructions using Epoxy:
• With machine in place and leveled, drill 3” deep holes in the concrete using a 9/16”
diameter. masonry bit, using the mounting hole as a guide.
• Clean out holes with an air compressor. Complete hole preparation with use of a
nylon brush (do not use wire brush). When starting a fresh cartridge of anchoring
epoxy, epoxy must be an evenly blended light gray color. Insert nozzle into the bot-
tom of the hole. Fill hole to ½ the hole depth.

ANCHORINGTHE MACHINE TO THE FLOOR
1-13
KVAL Operation/Service Manual
• Insert 1/2”, (hardened) threaded rod into the bottom of the hole using a slow twist-
ing motion. This insures the epoxy fills voids and crevices. Hardening begins in 7
minutes at room temperature.
