ATTENTION:
• Installations and applications of L.B.White heaters must meet all applicable local , regional, and national codes. Included
are L.P. gas, natural gas, and electrical and safety codes. Your local fuel gas supplier, a local licensed electrician, local fire
department, or similar government agency can assist you.
• Mounting the heater will require the assistance of others.
• The heater must be securely mounted to the wall. The wall must be able to support the combined weight of the heater and
the outdoor mounting kit. Consider the final installed weight to be:
Guardian 60: 83 lbs. (37.6 kg)
Guardian 100: 98 lbs. (44.4 kg)
• Appropriate mounting hardware is supplied in the outdoor mounting kit for fastening the main supports to standard wall
materials with 16 in. (41 cm) or 24 in. (61 cm) center to centers.
-- If the wall studs are further apart than the referenced centers or if the studs and walls
are made of other materials, the appropriate mounting hardware and materials must be
obtained locally to ensure the heater is securely and safely mounted.
• Do not mount the heater and its kit on the side of the building which has exhaust fans.
• The heater must be mounted a minimum of two feet (0.61 m) above the ground and at a location so as not to interfere with
water, gas, or electrical lines.
• The heater must be mounted so its air inlets are not obstructed, and to withstand the effects of adverse weather conditions.
• The heater’s duct must be positioned to maintain a minimum of 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) air gap on all sides between the duct and
the nearest combustible material.
-- Any material within 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) of the duct or in contact with the duct must be made of non-combustible material
or protected by non-combustible insulation.
• Regardless of wall construction, ensure the minimum clearance from heater to wall is 6 in. (15.2 cm) minimum.
(This will still accomodate wall thickness up to 14 in. (35.5 cm.)
A. Getting ready
• Determine the location for the heater installation.
• Lay all kit components on a flat area to assist in identification and assembly.
o See Figs. 1 and 2 to identify the components used in the assembly process.

ASSEMBLY and INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Qualifications for installation:
• You must read and understand these instructions before begin-
ning the installation.
• You must have sufficient experience to install the kit and test for
proper operation.
• You must be able to place the heater in a continuing safe and
normal operating condition.

Assembling the brackets
1. Lay the two hanging brackets over the black 1/4 -20 cage nuts at the corners of the heater. Using quantity 4
each of hardware items A,B, and I, fasten the hanging brackets to the heater’s case top. See Fig. 3. Tighten
all securely. NOTE: The oblong holes on the bracket are used for mounting on 16 or 24 inch center to center.

2. Assemble the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal brackets together as shown in Figs. 4,5, and 6.
Use quantity 4 each item E and J nuts and bolts for each bracket set.. Tighten all securely.

Assembling duct to heater
1. Fold up the tabs located on the take off flange.
2. Guardian 60: Position the flange so its two larger holes are located over the two screws used to mount
the heater’s control box. Drill six 1/8 in. holes at flange holes, top, bottom, and sides of flange. Secure the
flange to the heater using quantity 6 item F screws. See Fig. 7. Tighten all securely.

Guardian 100: Remove the 4 blower outlet screws. Lay the flange over these holes and reinstall the four
screws. Also drill two 1/8 in. holes (one at top, one at bottom) at dimples and install quantity 2 item F screws.
See Fig. 8. Tighten all securely.

3. Position the inner duct with dampers to the four inner mounting tabs of the take off flange. See Fig. 9.
Ensure the dampers of the inner duct lift and drop as shown in Fig. 10. Fasten the inner duct to the take
off flange, using quantity 4 item F screws. Tighten securely.

Fasten the large outer duct to the outer lip of the take off flange using quantity 4 item F screws. See Fig. 11.
Tighten all securely.

Assembling baffle and bird screen to heater
1. Working from the gas inlet end of the heater, remove the screws on both sides that secure the case to the
heater’s base.
Guardian 60: 3 screws
Guardian 100: 4 screws. (shown-Fig. 12)
2. Install the baffle to the heater base using the screws removed in step 1. See Fig. 12. Ensure the baffle is
located between the inside of the access door and the heater case at the gas inlet end of the heater. See Fig.
13. This allows opening of the door for service or maintenance. Tighten all screws securely.

3. The bird screen is used ONLY if the heater base does not completely cover the bottom of the heater to the
back of the control box. See Fig. 14. (Otherwise, discard it.) The flanges of the screen are located between
the baffle and the heater’s case. Fasten the screen to the heater using quantity 2 item G, self drilling screws.

Mounting the wall brackets and cutting the duct hole
1. Position the brackets at the desired location. Drill holes and fasten both sets of brackets to the wall using quan-
tity 4 item L lag screws and 4 item C washers, at top and bottom holes of brackets. Tighten all securely.
2. Mount the brackets, using a level. Ensure vertical brackets are plumb. See Fig. 16 for cutting the hole for the
duct.

Final heater mounting (Requires assistance)
• Lift the heater and guide its duct through the hole.
• Position the heater along its brackets so the end of the duct is flush to the inside wall. See Fig. 17.
• Ensure the oblong holes in the heater hanging brackets align to the holes in the main mounting brackets.
• Ensure clearance of heater to wall is as shown in Fig. 18.
• When the desired position is achieved, securely mount the heater to the main brackets using the following
hardware items at all four mounting locations on both heater hanging brackets (see Fig. 19):
- Item K bolts: 4
- Item D washers: 8
- Item E nut: 4
- Item C spacer: 4
