Explosion Proof Warnings (General)
WARNING
TO AVOID THE RISK OF FIRE, EXPLOSION OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE INSTALLED,
INSPECTED AND MAINTAINED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN ONLY, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL
APPLICABLE ELECTRICAL CODES.
TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK:
•BE CERTAIN ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF BEFORE AND DURING INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE.
•PRODUCT MUST BE CONNECTED TO A WIRING SYSTEM WITH AN EQUIPMENT-GROUNDING
CONDUCTOR.
TO AVOID EXPLOSION:
•MAKE SURE THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE IS WITHIN THE VOLTAGE RATING.
•ENSURE THE MARKED T RATING IS LESS THAN THE IGNITION TEMPERATURE OF THE HAZARDOUS
ATMOSPHERE.
•DO NOT OPERATE IN AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ABOVE THOSE INDICATED ON THE PRODUCT
NAMEPLATE.
•DO NOT OPERATE IF THE LENS, CORD, SEALS, HOUSING, RECEPTACLES, ETC. IS CRACKED OR
DAMAGED. IF SO, DISCONTINUE USE AND CONTACT MANUFACTURER FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS.
•ALL FASTENERS SHOULD BE PROPERLY SEATED.
WARNING:
USER SHOULD BE TRAINED IN THE PROPER USE AND MAINTENANCE OFTHIS DEVICE. WHEN EXTENSION
CORD IS CONNECTED TO A POWER SOURCE IN HAZARDOUS AREA, PLUG AND MATCHING RECEPTACLE
MUST BE SUITABLE FOR HAZARDOUS LOCATION INVOLVED. IMPROPER USE OF THIS DEVICE, ASSOCIATED
PLUG, RECEPTACLE, AND CORD CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH TO PERSONNEL.
PERIODIC INSPECTION OF THE REEL AND CORD IS NECESSARY.
THE CORD MUST BE ROUTINELY CHECKED FOR CUTS, BREAKS, ORANY SEVERE ABRASIONS, AND IFANY
ARE FOUND, THE CORD MUST BEREPLACED BEFORE RESUMING USE OFTHE UNIT.
ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY MUST BE “OFF” BEFORE AND DURING INSTALLATION ANDMAINTENANCE.
INSTALLATION ANDMAINTENANCE PROCEDURE MUST BE PERFORMED BY A TRAINED AND COMPETENT
ELECTRICIAN.
IF ANY PARTS OF THE REEL OR PLUG APPEAR TOBE MISSING, BROKEN, ORSHOW SIGNS OR DAMAGE,
DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY. REPLACE WITH THE PROPER REPLACEMENT PART(S) BEFORE
CONTINUING SERVICE.
INSTALLATION
The EPLRL-100-HR is designed to be surface mounted via the included surface mounting bracket. Mounting hardware
is to be provided by the operator. Acceptable mounting locations depend on the job site, environment, and required
application.
WIRING
The EPLRL-100-HR is equipped with a 6' feeder cord on the fixed end for connecting to power sources. The 100' 16/3
SOOW cable is terminated in flying leads which allow for connecting a portable explosion proof fixture.

APPLICATIONS
The EPLRL-100-HR is ideal for hoists, moving equipment, and large electric tools. They are suitable for vertical
recovery, vertical recovery, horizontal stretch, and drag applications. Where minimum cable sag is not
critical, our industrial cord reels can be used for stretch service where an expected cable sag at mid-point of
10% is allowable.
DEFINITION OF CORD REEL APPLICATIONS
Horizontal Stretch
Cable is suspended in the air, supported at both ends. The tension must
accommodate about twice the total weight of the cable to maintain an acceptable
6% sag.
Drag
The reel is mounted in a permanent location. Cable is dragged over surface to
and from fixed mounted reel. The tension required is about the same as the lift
application.
Vertical Lift
Reel is mounted overhead. Cable pays out downward and is retracted up via
spring power. Reel must have enough tension to lift the total weight of the cable
and any additional weight attached to it, e.g., pendant station, cable overhang.
Recovery
Mounted on a moving carrier, reel picks up cable from stationary base. The closer
the reel is to the recovery surface, the less tension is required.
Vertical Recovery
Base mounted reel pays out cable upward. The reel is required only to recover the
cable on the spool, as the cable moves downward. Minimal tension is needed to
recover cable into the reel.a

MAINTENANCE
Caution: To avoidpersonal injury, disconnect power to the lreel and allow the unit to cool downbefore
performing maintenance.
Warning:No user serviceable parts inside of reel.Risk of electric shock. Removal of the cover will void
the warranty.
1. Perform visual, mechanical and electrical inspections on a regular basis. We recommend routine
checks to be made on a yearly basis. Frequency of use and environment shoulddetermine this. It is
recommendedto follow an Electrical Preventive Maintenance Program as described in NFPA 70B:
Recommendedpractice for Electrical Equipment.
2. The exterior should be cleaned periodically as neededto ensure continued performance. Clean the
reel with a damp, non-abrasive,lint-free cloth. If not sufficient, use mild soapor a liquid cleaner.
3. Inspect the reel for any signs of damage.
4. Do not operate if the reel is damaged. All fasteners shouldbe properly seated.
