End User License Agreement
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS END USER
LICENSE AGREEMENT CAREFULLY. USING
LAUNCH OR LAUNCH-SUPPLIED PRODUCTS
AND SOFTWARE CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE
OF THIS AGREEMENT.
LAUNCH IS WILLING TO LICENSE THE
PRODUCTS, INFORMATION, SOFTWARE AND
DOCUMENTS (COLLECTIVELY, “MATERIALS”)
TO YOU ONLY UPON THE CONDITION THAT
YOU ACCEPT ALL OF THE TERMS CONTAINED
IN THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT. BY USING THE
MATERIALS, YOU ARE BINDING YOURSELF
AND THE BUSINESS ENTITY THAT YOU
REPRESENT (COLLECTIVELY, “CUSTOMER”)
TO THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE
TO ALL OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT,
THEN LAUNCH IS UNWILLING TO LICENSE
THE MATERIALS TO YOU AND DO NOT USE
THE PRODUCTS AND DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL
THE SOFTWARE.
The following terms of this End User License
Agreement (“Agreement”) govern Customer’s
ccess nd use of the product, except to the
extent there is sep r te signed greement
between Customers nd LAUNCH governing
Customer’s use.
License
Conditioned upon compli nce with the terms nd
conditions of this Agreement, LAUNCH TECH. CO,
LTD. or its subsidi ry licensing the M teri ls
inste d of LAUNCH, gr nts to Customer
nonexclusive nd nontr nsfer ble license to use
for Customer’s intern l business purposes the
M teri ls nd the Document for which Customer
h s p id the required license fees. “Document”
me ns written inform tion (whether cont ined in
user or technic l m nu ls, tr ining m teri ls,
specific tions or otherwise) specific lly pert ining
to the equipment nd m de v il ble by LAUNCH
with the equipment in ny m nner (including on
CD-Rom, or on-line).
Unless otherwise expressly provided in the
Document, Customer sh ll use the Softw re solely
s embedded in, for execution on or (where the
pplic ble document permits inst ll tion on
non-LAUNCH equipment) for communic tion with
LAUNCH equipment owned or le sed by
Customer nd used for Customer’s intern l
business purposes.
Note:
For ev lu tion or bet copies for which LAUNCH
does not ch rge license fee, the bove
requirement to p y license fees does not pply.
General Limitations
This is license, not tr nsfer of title, to the
m teri ls, nd LAUNCH ret ins ownership of ll
copies of the M teri ls. Customer cknowledges
th t the M teri ls cont in tr de secrets of
LAUNCH, its suppliers or licensors, including but
not limited to the specific intern l designed
structure of individu l progr ms nd ssoci ted
interf ce inform tion. Accordingly, except s
otherwise expressly provided under this
Agreement, Customer sh ll h ve no right nd
Customer specific lly grees not to:
(i) Tr nsfer, ssign or sublicense its license rights
to ny other person or entity, or use the M teri ls
on un uthorized or secondh nd LAUNCH
equipment, nd Customer cknowledges th t ny

ttempted tr nsfer, ssignment, sublicense or use
sh ll be void;
(ii) M ke error corrections to or otherwise modify
or d pt the M teri ls or cre te deriv tive works
b sed upon the M teri ls, or permit third p rties to
do the s me;
(iii) Reverse engineer or decompile, decrypt,
dis ssemble or otherwise reduce the M teri ls to
hum n-re d ble form, except to the extent
otherwise expressly permitted under pplic ble
l w notwithst nding this restriction;
(iv) Use or permit the M teri ls to be used to
perform services for third p rties, whether on
service bure u or time sh ring b sis or otherwise,
without the express written uthoriz tion of
LAUNCH;
(v) Disclose, provide, or otherwise m ke v il ble
tr de secrets cont ined within the M teri ls in ny
form to ny third p rty without the prior written
consent of LAUNCH. Customer sh ll implement
re son ble security me sures to protect such
tr de secrets.
To the extent required by l w, nd t Customer’s
written request, LAUNCH sh ll provide Customer
with the interf ce inform tion needed to chieve
interoper bility between the M teri ls nd nother
independently cre ted progr m, on p yment of
LAUNCH’s pplic ble fee, if ny. Customer sh ll
observe strict oblig tions of confidenti lity with
respect to such inform tion nd sh ll use such
inform tion in compli nce with ny pplic ble
terms nd conditions upon which LAUNCH m kes
such inform tion v il ble.
Software, Upgrades and Additional Copies
For purposes of this Agreement, “Softw re” sh ll
include ( nd the terms nd conditions of this
Agreement sh ll pply to) computer progr ms,
including firmw re, s provided to Customer by
LAUNCH or n uthorized LAUNCH reseller, nd
ny upgr des, upd tes, bug fixes or modified
versions thereto (collectively, “Upgr des”) or
b ckup copies of the Softw re licensed or
provided to Customer by LAUNCH or n
uthorized LAUNCH reseller.
NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION
OF THIS AGREEMENT: (1) CUSTOMER HAS NO
LICENSE OR RIGHT TO USE ANY ADDITIONAL
COPIES OR UPGRADES UNLESS CUSTOMER,
AT THE TIME OF ACQUIRING SUCH COPY OR
UPGRADE, ALREADY HOLDS A VALID LICENSE
TO THE ORIGINAL SOFTWARE AND HAS PAID
THE APPLICABLE FEE FOR THE UPGRADE OR
ADDITIONAL COPIES; (2) USE OF UPGRADES
IS LIMITED TO LAUNCH EQUIPMENT FOR
WHICH CUSTOMER IS THE ORIGINAL END
USER PURCHASER OR LESSEE OR WHO
OTHERWISE HOLDS A VALID LICENSE TO USE
THE SOFTWARE WHICH IS BEING UPGRADED;
AND (3) THE MAKING AND USE OF
ADDITIONAL COPIES IS LIMITED TO
NECESSARY BACKUP PURPOSES ONLY.

of ny M teri ls without the prior written
permission of LAUNCH.
Term and Termination
This Agreement nd the license gr nted herein
sh ll rem in effective until termin ted. Customer
m y termin te this Agreement nd the license t

ny time by destroying ll copies of M teri ls nd
ny Document. Customer’s rights under this
Agreement will termin te immedi tely without
notice from LAUNCH if Customer f ils to comply
with ny provision of this Agreement. Upon
termin tion, Customer sh ll destroy ll copies of
Softw re in its possession or control. All
confidenti lity oblig tions of Customer nd ll
limit tions of li bility nd discl imers nd
restrictions of w rr nty sh ll survive termin tion of
this Agreement.
Customer Records
Customer gr nts to LAUNCH nd its independent
ccount nts the right to ex mine Customer’s
books, records nd ccounts during Customer's
norm l business hours to verify compli nce with
this Agreement. In the event such udit discloses
non-compli nce with this Agreement, Customer
sh ll promptly p y to LAUNCH the ppropri te
license fees, plus the re son ble cost of
conducting the udit.

Softw re, including technic l d t , m y be subject
to PRC. export control l ws, including the PRC.
Export Administr tion Act nd its ssoci ted
regul tions, nd m y be subject to export or
import.

Safety Precautions
Precautions on Operating
ehicle’s ECU
Do not disconnect the vehicle inner
consumer when the ignition switch is on.
High volt ge tr nsients m y encounters t
the moment of disconnecting, nd thus m y
d m ge sensors nd ECU.
Protect the computer from m gnetic object
(such s wireless spe ker)
Do cut off the power supply of ECU system
before welding on the vehicle.
P y more ttention to ECU nd sensors
when oper tion is next to them.
Ground yourself when you dis ssemble
PROM, otherwise ECU nd sensors will be
d m ged by st tic.
Do not use the pointer ohmmeter inste d of
DMM for testing ECU nd sensor without
speci l requirement.
Do not test electric devices in rel tion with
ECU with test l mp unless otherwise
expressly provided.
Do we r met l ground strip th t one end
round your wrist nd the other to the
vehicle body when you get in nd out the
vehicle.
Do connect ECU h rness connector firmly,
otherwise electro elements, such s IC
inside ECU, will be d m ged.
Precaution on Operation
The X-431IV is sophistic ted electronic
device, never h ve it cl shed when in use.
M in unit screen m y fl sh t the moment
engine ignition, it’s norm l.
You m y unplug the m in unit if the
progr m c nnot be ctu ted or confused
screen occurs. Plug g in to continue the
oper tion.
M ke sure th t the X-431IV is properly
connected to the DIAGNOSTIC
CONNECTOR to void communic tion
interruptions.
X-431IV is equipped with le ther Str p for
e sy h ndling when tr veling or t king it
into c r shop.
Be c reful when plugging nd unplugging
the m in c ble nd di gnostic connector.
Tighten the screw before oper tion to void
unexpected disconnecting nd/or d m ge
to the port.
Do not insert nd pull out CF c rd when the
X-431IV is working. Press ejector button to
pull out the c rd. Insert the CF in the right
pl ce, keep the f ce l beled “UPSIDE”
upw rd, nd m ke sure the c rd is fully
se ted.
H ndle with c re nd void cr sh. Unplug
the power fter oper tion.
Put the stylus into the slot t b ck of
X-431IV m in unit fter oper tion, nd
pl ce the c bles, connectors nd other
ccessories into box.
Hold the connector nd do not pull the
power cord when unplug it.
Use the Cig rette lighter c ble to power up,
only from the tested vehicle to prevent the
ECU from being d m ged
Precautions on ehicle
Automotive b tteries cont in sulfuric cid
th t is h rmful to skin. In oper tion, direct
cont ct with the utomotive b tteries should
be voided. P y ttention not to spl sh the
sulfuric cid into eyes. Keep ignition
sources w y from the b ttery t ll times.
Engines produce v rious poisonous
compounds (hydroc rbon, c rbon
monoxide, zotes oxides, etc,), which
should be voided.
Avoid cont cting high temper ture
ssembly such s w ter t nk nd vent-pipe,
s the temper ture of the running engine is
very high.
Before st rting engine, put the speed lever
in the neutr l position or in the P position to
void injury.
We r n ANSI- pproved eye shield when
testing or rep iring vehicles.
If you re using the b ttery s power
source, connect the RED (+) b ttery clip to
the positive of the vehicle b ttery nd the
BLACK (-) b ttery clip to the neg tive.

1. Introduction
1.1 General descriptions
X-431IV is newly developed di gnostic tool,
which uses the open oper ting system of X-431
series nd inherits number of dv nt ges of
L unch’s di gnosing technology, including wide
cover ge of vehicle model, powerful test
functions nd precise test d t , etc.
Me nwhile, X-431IV is equipped with rot t ble
di gnostic connector, which m kes it more
convenient nd flexible to use.
Addition lly, X-431IV is highly improved in
respect of the following:
Appearance: The X-431IV integr tes
Sm rtbox, miniprinter nd m in unit s
whole set, which elimin tes the
communic tion f ilure c used by frequent
unplugging nd loose connections, nd lso
reduces the communic tion time between
Sm rtbox nd m in unit.
Core CPU: utilizes the self-owned
high-speed processor chip nd integr tes
sign l processing nd rel y modules.
Connector: The X-431IV h s new
SMART OBDII-16E connector to repl ce ll
CAN Bus nd OBD Connector. The
di gnostic connector c n be rot ted within
n ngle of 90° nd is flexible to use.
Performance: Softw re structure h s been
optimized. It runs more r pidly nd st bly
nd c n directly di gnose without

control unit; simil rly, indic tor should be on during D t Stre m re ding process when SMARTBOX is
receiving d t from the vehicle’s electronic control unit.

2.5 X-431I Initial Use
2.5.1 X-431I Starts
Plug in X-431IV m in unit nd press [POWER]
key on the m in unit, the screen will displ y
initi lizing interf ce. After initi liz tion completes,
the system will prompt you whether to c libr te
touch screen.
Press [HOTKEY] to begin c libr ting, otherwise
the system will enter the m in menu interf ce.
Use the stylus to click the t rget cross on the
center of the screen ccur tely in order. Once it
ch nges, you complete c libr tion.
Rec libr tion is not required until the screen gets
slow response or becomes missed.
Note: It is recommended to use the stylus to
make calibrations. Numberings marked in the
right figure indicate the calibration sequence and
it does not appear on the screen.
2.5.2 Taskbar
There is t skb r t the bottom of e ch oper tion

s shown in the left figure, their functions re
described s below:
‘St rt’ Button: the s me s Windows. Click it with
stylus to pop up St rt menu, which includes the
m in functions of X-431IV, see ch pter 3 nd 4
for det ils.
‘Active T sk’ icon: click to displ y current
interf ce or shift mong different interf ces;
‘Rot te’ button: rot te the interf ce 180 degrees
for e sy oper tion, see ch pter ‘Rot te’ for
det ils.
‘B cklight’ icon: light on or light off the b cklit
‘Soft Keybo rd’ icon: displ y or hide the soft
keybo rd, when the soft keybo rd is ctiv ted,
there re 3 input options: h ndwriting, English
input nd Chinese input (see ch pter ‘Input’ for
det ils)
‘Current Time’ icon: see ch pter ‘D te/Time’ for
time setting.

Sometimes, you need to convert the perspective
for e sy oper ting, button [ ] could chieve it
by rot ting the interf ce 180 degrees, s shown

Use Soft Keyboard
1) Activate and hide the soft keyboard
Click icon t the bottom of the screen with
stylus to ctiv te soft keybo rd, click g in to
hide it.
2) Input by soft keyboard
You h ve 2 w ys to input by soft keybo rd: one is
to input with stylus inste d of finger input on
common keybo rd; the other is to input by
h ndwriting. Input method differs for different
l ngu ges.
When in simplified Chinese, click [En] to shift
from English input to Chinese input [Ch], click
[Ch] to shift from Chinese input to h ndwriting
[Hw], nd click [Hw] to shift from h ndwriting
input to English input.
When in Chinese input, the ssoci tion functions
of X-431IV will f cilit te your input by inferring the
words you

2.5.7 Load thermal paper
The mini printer pplies therm l p per roll with
size of Φ30×57mm. Follow the steps described s
below to lo d it.
Install thermal paper
1) Push the printer cover out nd open it s
indic ted on Fig. & b.

2) Pl ce the unp cked therm l p per into the
comp rtment with its st rting end
ppro ching to the p per outlet (see Fig. c).
Reversing p per direction will c use th t no
results will be printed out.

3) Pull out some printing p per nd introduce it
long the slot until it comes out of the p per
outlet shown s Fig. c. Otherwise p per c n
not be fed.
4) Close the p per cover. See Fig. d.
Note: The thermal paper should be prevented from
being heated before printing, otherwise, the paper
would be no longer effective or printing results
disappear.
Print test result
After lo ding the therm l p per, press [LF] key to
check whether the p per c n be fed norm lly.
When the [PAPER] indic tor is on, it indic tes
th t the printer is re dy. Click the [PRINT] button
(if it ppe rs) on the screen of X-431IV m in unit
to print the test result.

3. ehicle Diagnosis
3.1 Preparation and connections
3.1.1 Preparations
1. Conditions for Test
1). Turn on the vehicle.
2). The volt ge of vehicle b ttery should be 9 - 37V. The r ted volt ge of the X-431IV is 12V.
3). The throttle should be in the closed position.
4). Ignition timing nd idle speed should be within specific tion r nge, w ter nd tr nsmission oil
temper ture is in norm l working r nge (w ter temper ture is 90 – 110°C nd tr nsmission oil
temper ture is 50 – 80°C).
2. Location of the DLC on the vehicle
The loc tion of DLC v ries for different vehicle m ke.
3.1.2 Connections
Before di gnosing vehicle, ple se m ke sure the following connections re properly m de:
1. Open the CF c rd slot nd plug the CF c rd into the slot firmly with "UP SIDE" f cing up;
2. Connect one end of the di gnostic m in c ble to di gnostic port of X-431 IV ( ), nd the other end
to one end of the selected di gnostic connector ( ).
3. Connect the other end of di gnostic connector to the vehicle's DLC ( ).
4. Plug one end of the cig rette lighter c ble into the cig rette lighter c ble j ck ( ) nd the other end
to the cig rette lighter socket ( ) to obt in power.
Note: If the power supply on vehicle diagnostic socket is insufficient or the power pin is
damaged, you can get power from the following ways:
. From cigarette lighter: insert one end of the cigarette lighter cable into the lighter socket in
vehicle and connect the other end to the power connector of X-43 IV main cable.
2. From battery: clamp the two clips of battery cable on the positive and negative poles of
battery and insert another end of the cable into the power connector of X-43 IV main cable.

3.2 Start to diagnose

3.2.1 Enter diagnostic program
After connection, press [POWER] key to st rt
X-431IV.
After st rting the m in unit, press [HOTKEY] (or
click [START] button on the m in menu, nd
select [GAG]→[GD Scan] on the pop-up menu),
the screen will displ y the home p ge of vehicle
di gnosis s shown in Figure 3-1.
