WINDMILL ANCHORING
Leigh Country deems it to be the end user’s responsibility for determining the location and soil
conditions for a windmill display setup. Anchoring the windmill base is very important to
assure a long usable product life. It is the end user’s responsibility in properly anchoring the
product. Product damage may be caused by improper anchoring.
There are several ways to anchor your windmill. Provided below is one such method of
anchoring your windmill to assure a long useful product life.
In order to anchor your Char-log®Windmill, it is recommended that at least 4”-6” diameter x
12” deep concrete footings be made.
Tools Needed:
- Post Hole Digger
- 80lbs Concrete Mix (approximately 2 x 40lbs bags)

Concrete Footing

Steel “L” Anchor
Next, mix the concrete with water and pour it into the footing holes using half a bag per hole.
While the concrete is still setting up, you can attempt to anchor the windmill stand to the footing
without the windmill topper. Set the windmill on top of the 4 footings while the concrete is still
wet. Take the “L” shaped anchors and push it through the hole in the windmill leg and down into
the wet concrete. Make sure the anchors are in the wet concrete firmly
Allow for 24 - 48 hours of drying time before putting the windmill topper on the base.
First, find a level surface in your area that you want to anchor the windmill to. Depending on
local soil conditions, it may be necessary for larger and deeper footings. Softer soils may need
stronger footings.
Then take the post hole digger and remove at least a 6” diameter x 12” deep of soil.
