Staticelectricity,althoughharlesstoyou,canseriouslydaagecoputercoponentsandoptions.

toinstallit.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperforanyworkinsidethecoputer,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydaage:
•Liityouroveent.Moveentcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecoponentscarefully.Handleadapters,eoryodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfrotouchingcoponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagecontainingthe
parttoaetalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedetalsurfaceonthecoputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,reovethestatic-sensitivepartfrothestatic-protectivepackagingandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-protectivepackagingonasooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonit.
•Donotplacethepartonthecoputercoverorotheretalsurface.
Powercordsandpoweradapters
Useonlythepowercordsandpoweradapterssuppliedbytheproductanufacturer.
Thepowercordsshallbesafetyapproved.ForGerany,itshallbeH05VV-F,3G,0.752,orbetter.For
othercountries,thesuitabletypesshallbeusedaccordingly.
Neverwrapapowercordaroundapoweradapterorotherobject.Doingsocanstressthecordinwaysthat
cancausethecordtofray,crack,orcrip.Thiscanpresentasafetyhazard.
Alwaysroutepowercordssothattheywillnotbewalkedon,trippedover,orpinchedbyobjects.
Protectpowercordandpoweradaptersfroliquids.Forinstance,donotleaveyourpowercordorpower
adapternearsinks,tubs,toilets,oronfloorsthatarecleanedwithliquidcleansers.Liquidscancausea
shortcircuit,particularlyifthepowercordorpoweradapterhasbeenstressedbyisuse.Liquidsalsocan
causegradualcorrosionofpowercordterinalsand/ortheconnectorterinalsonapoweradapter,
whichcaneventuallyresultinoverheating.
Ensurethatallpowercordconnectorsaresecurelyandcopletelypluggedintoreceptacles.
Donotuseanypoweradapterthatshowscorrosionattheacinputpinsorshowssignsofoverheating(such
asdeforedplastic)attheacinputoranywhereonthepoweradapter.
Donotuseanypowercordswheretheelectricalcontactsoneitherendshowsignsofcorrosionor
overheatingorwherethepowercordappearstohavebeendaagedinanyway.
Topreventpossibleoverheating,donotcoverthepoweradapterwithclothingorotherobjectswhenthe
poweradapterispluggedintoanelectricaloutlet.
Extensioncordsandrelateddeices
Ensurethatextensioncords,surgeprotectors,uninterruptiblepowersupplies,andpowerstripsthatyouuse
areratedtohandletheelectricalrequireentsoftheproduct.Neveroverloadthesedevices.Ifpowerstrips
areused,theloadshouldnotexceedthepowerstripinputrating.Consultanelectricianfororeinforation
ifyouhavequestionsaboutpowerloads,powerrequireents,andinputratings.

Plugsandoutlets
Ifareceptacle(poweroutlet)thatyouintendtousewithyourcoputerequipentappearstobedaaged
orcorroded,donotusetheoutletuntilitisreplacedbyaqualifiedelectrician.
Donotbendorodifytheplug.Iftheplugisdaaged,contacttheanufacturertoobtainareplaceent.
Donotshareanelectricaloutletwithotherhoeorcoercialappliancesthatdrawlargeaountsof
electricity;otherwise,unstablevoltageightdaageyourcoputer,data,orattacheddevices.
Soeproductsareequippedwithathree-prongedplug.Thisplugfitsonlyintoagroundedelectricaloutlet.
Thisisasafetyfeature.Donotdefeatthissafetyfeaturebytryingtoinsertitintoanon-groundedoutlet.If
youcannotinserttheplugintotheoutlet,contactanelectricianforanapprovedoutletadapterortoreplace
theoutletwithonethatenablesthissafetyfeature.Neveroverloadanelectricaloutlet.Theoverallsyste
loadshouldnotexceed80percentofthebranchcircuitrating.Consultanelectricianfororeinforation
ifyouhavequestionsaboutpowerloadsandbranchcircuitratings.
Besurethatthepoweroutletyouareusingisproperlywired,easilyaccessible,andlocatedclosetothe
equipent.Donotfullyextendpowercordsinawaythatwillstressthecords.
Besurethatthepoweroutletprovidesthecorrectvoltageandcurrentfortheproductyouareinstalling.
Carefullyconnectanddisconnecttheequipentfrotheelectricaloutlet.
Externaldeices
DonotconnectordisconnectanyexternaldevicecablesotherthanUniversalSerialBus(USB)and1394
cableswhilethecoputerpowerison;otherwise,youightdaageyourcoputer.Toavoidpossible
daagetoattacheddevices,waitatleastfivesecondsafterthecoputerisshutdowntodisconnect
externaldevices.
Generalbatterynotice

PersonalcomputersmanufacturedbyLenoomightcontainacoincellbatteryandarechargeable
batterypacktothesystem.BatteriessuppliedbyLenooforusewithyourproducthaebeen
testedforcompatibilityandshouldonlybereplacedwithapproedparts.
Neerattempttoopenorsericeanybattery.Donotcrush,puncture,orincineratebatteriesor
shortcircuitthemetalcontacts.Donotexposethebatterytowaterorotherliquids.Onlyrecharge
thebatterypackstrictlyaccordingtoinstructionsincludedintheproductdocumentation.
Batteryabuseormishandlingcancausethebatterytooerheat,whichcancausegassesorflame
to“ent”fromthebatterypackorcoincell.Ifyourbatteryisdamaged,orifyounoticeany
dischargefromyourbatteryorthebuildupofforeignmaterialsonthebatteryleads,stopusingthe
batteryandobtainareplacementfromthebatterymanufacturer.
Batteriescandegradewhentheyareleftunusedforlongperiodsoftime.Forsomerechargeable
batteries(particularlyLithiumIonbatteries),leaingabatteryunusedinadischargedstatecould
increasetheriskofabatteryshortcircuit,whichcouldshortenthelifeofthebatteryandalsocan

Rechargeablebatterynotice

Donotattempttodisassembleormodifythebatterypack.Attemptingtodosocancausean
explosion,orliquidleakagefromthebatterypack.Abatterypackotherthantheonespecifiedby
Lenoo,oradisassembledormodifiedbatterypackisnotcoeredbythewarranty.
Iftherechargeablebatterypackisincorrectlyreplaced,thereisdangerofanexplosion.Thebattery
packcontainsasmallamountofharmfulsubstances.Toaoidpossibleinjury:
•ReplaceonlywithabatteryofthetyperecommendedbyLenoo.
•Keepthebatterypackawayfromfire.
•Donotexposeittowaterorrain.
•Donotattempttodisassembleit.
•Donotshort-circuitit.
•Keepitawayfromchildren.
•Donotdropthebatterypack.
Donotputthebatterypackintrashthatisdisposedofinlandfills.Whendisposingofthebattery,
complywithlocalordinancesorregulations.
Thebatterypackshouldbestoredatroomtemperature,chargedtoapproximately30to50%
ofcapacity.Werecommendthatbatterypackbechargedaboutonceperyeartopreent
oerdischarge.
Heatandproductentilation
Coputers,poweradapters,andanyaccessoriescangenerateheatwhenturnedonandwhenbatteries
arecharging.Alwaysfollowthesebasicprecautions:
•Donotleaveyourcoputer,poweradapter,oraccessoriesincontactwithyourlaporanypartofyour
bodyforanextendedperiodwhentheproductsarefunctioningorwhenthebatteryischarging.Your
coputer,poweradapter,andanyaccessoriesproducesoeheatduringnoraloperation.Extended
contactwiththebodycouldcausediscofortor,potentially,askinburn.
•Donotchargethebatteryoroperateyourcoputer,poweradapter,oraccessoriesnearflaable
aterialsorinexplosiveenvironents.
•Ventilationslots,fans,andheatsinksareprovidedwiththeproductforsafety,cofort,andreliable
operation.Thesefeaturesightinadvertentlybecoeblockedbyplacingtheproductonabed,sofa,
carpet,orotherflexiblesurface.Neverblock,cover,ordisablethesefeatures.
Inspectyourdesktopcoputerfordustaccuulationatleastonceeverythreeonths.Beforeinspecting
yourcoputer,turnoffthepowerandunplugthecoputer'spowercordfrotheelectricaloutlet;then
reoveanydustfroventsandperforationsinthebezel.Ifyounoticeexternaldustaccuulation,then
exaineandreovedustfrotheinsideofthecoputerincludingheatsinkinletfins,powersupplyvents,
andfans.Alwaysturnoffandunplugthecoputerbeforeopeningthecover.Ifpossible,avoidoperating
yourcoputerwithintwofeetofhigh-trafficareas.Ifyouustoperateyourcoputerinornearahigh-traffic
area,inspectand,ifnecessary,cleanyourcoputerorefrequently.

coputersindustyorhigh-trafficareas.
•Donotrestrictorblockanyventilationopenings.
•Donotstoreoroperateyourcoputerinsidefurniture,asthisightincreasetheriskofoverheating.
•Airflowteperaturesintothecoputershouldnotexceed35°C(95°F).
•Donotinstallairfiltrationdevices.Theyayinterferewithpropercooling.
Operatingenironment
Theoptialenvironentinwhichtouseyourcoputeris10°C-35°C(50°F-95°F)withhuidityranging
between35%and80%.Ifyourcoputerisstoredortransportedinteperatureslessthan10°C(50°F),
allowthecoldcoputertoriseslowlytoanoptialoperatingteperatureof10°C-35°C(50°F-95°F)before
use.Thisprocesscouldtaketwohoursinextreeconditions.Failuretoallowyourcoputertorisetoan
optialoperatingteperaturebeforeusecouldresultinirreparabledaagetoyourcoputer.
Ifpossible,placeyourcoputerinawell-ventilatedanddryareawithoutdirectexposuretosunshine.
Keepelectricalappliancessuchasanelectricfan,radio,high-poweredspeakers,airconditioner,and
icrowaveovenawayfroyourcoputerbecausethestrongagneticfieldsgeneratedbythese
appliancescandaagetheonitoranddataontheharddiskdrive.
Donotplaceanybeveragesontopoforbesidethecoputerorotherattacheddevices.Ifliquidisspilledon
orinthecoputeroranattacheddevice,ashortcircuitorotherdaageightoccur.
Donoteatorsokeoveryourkeyboard.Particlesthatfallintoyourkeyboardcancausedaage.
