Chapter 1. Meet your computer
Front
1. Integrated camera shield* Slide to cover the camera lens whenever ou need.
2. Integrated microphones* Capture or record sound and voice.

indicator* The indicator is on when the camera is in use.
4. Integrated camera*
Take pictures or record videos b clicking Camera from the Start menu.
If ou use other apps that support photographing, video chatting, and video
conference, the camera starts automaticall when ou enable the camera-
required feature from the app.
5. Multi-touch screen* Enable ou to use our computer with simple touch gestures. See “Use the multi-
touch screen (for selected models)” on page 11.
6. Optical drive eject button* Eject the optical drive tra .
7. Optical drive activit indicator* This indicator is on when the optical drive is in use.

8. Power button
Press to turn on the computer.
To turn off the computer, open the Start menu, click Power, and then select
Shut down.
The indicator in the power button shows the s stem status of our computer.
• On: The computer is on.
• Off: The computer is off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking: The computer is in sleep mode or modern standb mode.
Note: Modern standb mode is supported on some models.
9. Internal speakers Enable ou to experience high-qualit sound.
10. Headset connector Connect a headset or headphones to our computer.
11. SD-card slot
Supported cards:
• Secure Digital (SD) card
• Secure Digital eXtended-Capacit (SDXC) UHS-1 card
• Secure Digital High-Capacit (SDHC) UHS-1 card
Note: Your computer does not support the content protection for recordable
media (CPRM) feature for the SD card.

Rear
1. VESA® threaded holes Connect the matched VESA mount with the matched screws (M4 x 8 mm x 4 pcs)
when ou install the computer on a wall.
2. HDMITM in connector Receive audio and video signals from another audio or video device, such as an
additional computer.
3. Power adapter connector Connect the power adapter to our computer for power suppl .
4. Ethernet connector
Connect to a local area network (LAN). When the green indicator is on, the
computer is connected to a LAN. When the ellow indicator blinks, data is being
transmitted.
5. HDMI out connector Send audio and video signals from the computer to another audio or video device,
such as a high-performance monitor.
6. USB 2.0 connector Connect USB-compatible devices, such as a USB ke board, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB printer.
7. USB-C™ (3.2 Gen 1) connector
• Charge USB-C compatible devices with the output voltage and current of 5 V
and 3 A.
• Transfer data at USB 3.2 speed, up to 5 Gbps.
• Connect to USB-C accessories to help expand our computer functionalit . To
purchase USB-C accessories, go to https://www.lenovo.com/accessories.
8. USB 3.2 connector Gen 1
Connect USB-compatible devices, such as a USB ke board, USB mouse, USB
storage device, or USB printer. This connector supports the smart power-on
feature. For more information, see “Enable or disable the smart power-on feature”
on page 25.
9. Securit -lock slot Lock our computer to a desk, table, or other fixtures through a Kensington-st le
cable lock.

Depending on man factors such as the processing capabilit of the host and peripheral devices, file

rate using the various USB connectors on this device will var and will be slower than the data rate listed

Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right awa . For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows help information.
Windows account
A user account is required to use the Windows operating s stem. It can either be a Windows user account or
a Microsoft account.
Windows user account
When ou start Windows for the first time, ou are prompted to create a Windows user account. This first
account ou created is of the “Administrator” t pe. With an Administrator account, ou can create additional
user accounts or change account t pes b doing the following:
1. Open the Start menu and select Settings ➙ ccounts ➙ Family & other users.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Microsoft account
You can also log in to the Windows operating s stem with a Microsoft account.
To create a Microsoft account, go to the Microsoft sign-up page at https://signup.live.com and follow the on-
screen instructions.
With a Microsoft account, ou can:

• Enjo one-time signing in if ou are using other Microsoft services, such as OneDrive, Sk pe, and Outlook.

Windows user interface
1. ccount Change account settings, lock the computer, or sign out from the current account.
2. Documents Open the Documents folder, a default folder to save our received files.
3. Pictures Open the Pictures folder, a default folder to save our received pictures.
4. Settings Launch Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into sleep mode.
6. Start button Open the Start menu.
7. Windows Search T pe what ou are looking for in the search box and get search results from our
computer and the Web.
8. Task View Displa all opened apps and switch among them.
9. Windows notification area Displa notifications and status of some features.
10. Battery status icon Displa power status and change batter or power settings. When our computer
is not connected to ac power, the icon changes to .
11. Network icon Connect to an available wireless network and displa the network status. When
connected to a wired network, the icon changes to .
12. ction center Displa the latest notifications from apps and provide quick access to some
features.

Launch an app
• Open the Start menu and select the app ou want to launch.
• Use Windows Search.
Connect to networks
Your computer helps ou connect to the world through a wired or wireless network.
Connect to the wired Ethernet
Connect our computer to a local network through the Ethernet connector on our computer with an
Ethernet cable.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks (for selected models)
If our computer includes a wireless LAN module, ou can connect our computer to Wi-Fi® networks. The
wireless LAN module on our computer ma support different standards. For some countries or regions, use
of 802.11ax ma be disabled according to local regulations.
1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of available wireless networks is displa ed.
2. Select a network available for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Use the Vantage app
The preinstalled Vantage app is a customized one-stop solution to help ou maintain our computer with
automated updates and fixes, configure hardware settings, and get personalized support.
To access the Vantage app, t pe Vantage in the search box.
Key features
The Vantage app enables ou to:
• Know the device status easil and customize device settings.
• Download and install UEFI BIOS, firmware and driver updates to keep our computer up-to-date.
• Monitor our computer health, and secure our computer against outside threats.
• Scan our computer hardware and diagnose hardware problems.
• Look up warrant status (online).
• Access User Guide and helpful articles.
Notes:
• The available features var depending on the computer model.

• The Vantage app makes periodic updates of the features to keep improving our experience with our
computer. The description of features might be different from that on our actual user interface.
Use Night light
Blue light is the high-energ visible light in the light spectrum. Excessive exposure to blue light might damage
our vision. Night light is a feature that reduces the blue light emitted b computer displa s. When the night
light is on, our computer displa shows warmer colors that help ou reduce e e strain.
To turn on or turn off the night light, do one of the following:
• T pe Night light in the search box. Click Night light to open its settings window. Then, follow the on-
screen instructions.
• Open the Start menu. Click Settings ➙ System ➙ Display. Then, turn on or turn off the Night light
switch.
Note: Selected Lenovo computers are low blue-light certified. These computers are tested with night light
turned on and color temperature set to the default value of 48.
Use the multi-touch screen (for selected models)
If our computer displa supports the multi-touch function, ou can navigate the screen with simple touch
gestures.
Note: Some gestures might not be available depending on the app ou use.
Tap once
• From the Start menu: Open an app or item.
• From the desktop: Select an app or item.
• In an open app: Perform an action such as Copy, Save, and
Delete, depending on the app.
Tap twice quickly
Open an app or item from the desktop.

Open the action center to see our notifications and quick actions.

app or when your computer is in the tablet mode)
Show a hidden title bar.
• Swipe in from the top edge to the bottom edge (when your
computer is in the tablet mode)

Tips
• Turn off the computer before cleaning the multi-touch screen.
• Use a dr , soft, and lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-touch screen. Do not appl solvents to the cloth.
• The multi-touch screen is a glass panel covered with a plastic film. Do not appl pressure or place an
metallic object on the screen, which might damage the touch panel or cause it to malfunction.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate objects for input on the screen.
• Regularl calibrate the accurac of the finger input to avoid a discrepanc .
Use multimedia
Use our computer for business or entertainment with the devices (such as a camera, a monitor, or
speakers).
Use audio
To enhance the audio experience, connect speakers, headphones, or a headset to the audio connector.
djust the volume
1. Click the volume icon in the Windows notification area on the taskbar.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the volume. Click the speaker icon to mute the audio.
Change the sound settings
1. Go to Control Panel and view b categor .
2. Click Hardware and Sound ➙ Sound.
3. Change the settings as ou prefer.
Connect an external display
Connect a projector or a monitor to our computer to give presentations or expand our workspace.
Connect a wireless display
Ensure that both our computer and the wireless displa support Miracast®.
Press + and then select a wireless displa to connect.
Change display settings
Right-click a blank area on the desktop and select Display settings. Then, ou can change displa settings
as ou prefer.
