Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Adjust the computer stand
Access networks
This section he ps you access networks through connecting to a wired or wire ess network.
Connect to the wired Ethernet
Connect your computer to a oca network through the Ethernet connector on your computer with an
Ethernet cab e.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks (for selected models)
C ick the network icon in the Windows notification area, and then se ect a network for connection. Provide
required information, if needed.
Connect an external display
Connect a projector or a monitor to your computer to give presentations or expand your workspace.

Connect a wireless display
Ensure that both your computer and the wire ess disp ay support Miracast®.
Press + and then se ect a wire ess disp ay to connect.
Change display settings
Right-c ick a b ank area on the desktop and se ect Display settings. Then, you can change disp ay settings
as you prefer.

Lenovo Vantage
The preinsta ed Lenovo Vantage is a customized one-stop so ution to he p you maintain your computer with
automated updates and fixes, configure hardware settings, and get persona ized support.
Access Lenovo Vantage
Open the Start menu and c ick Lenovo Vantage. You a so can type Lenovo Vantage in the search box.
To down oad the atest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Microsoft Store and search by the app name.
Key features
Lenovo Vantage enab es you to:
• Know the device status easi y and customize device settings.
• Down oad and insta UEFI BIOS, firmware and driver updates to keep your computer up-to-date.
• Monitor your computer hea th, and secure your computer against outside threats.
• Scan your computer hardware and diagnose hardware prob ems.
• Look up warranty status (on ine).
• Access User Guide and he pfu artic es.
Notes:
• The avai ab e features vary depending on the computer mode .
• Lenovo Vantage makes periodic updates of the features to keep improving your experience with your
computer. The description of features might be different from that on your actua user interface.
Color sensor (for selected models)
The co or sensor enab es you to measure and adjust the co or accuracy of your computer disp ay. Therefore,
a co or image or graphic is rendered as c ose as possib e to its origina intent. The co or profi e for your
computer disp ay is preinsta ed on your computer. If you want to insta a different co or profi e, go to:
https://pcsupport. enovo.com
To use the co or sensor, open the Start menu, c ick X-Rite ➙ PANTONE Color Cali rator, and then fo ow
the on-screen instructions.
When the co or sensor is in use, the co or-sensor indicator on the computer outer id b inks twice at regu ar
interva s. When the co or measuring and adjustment finishes, the co or-sensor indicator stays on.
After you use the co or sensor for the first time, a ca ibration profi e ECCM2SensorData.dat is generated. Back
up this ca ibration profi e on an externa storage device in case that both the co or sensor and the interna
storage device are rep aced.

To ocate the DAT fi e, go to This PC ➙ Documents ➙ X-Rite.
The disp ay provides a co or profi e that can work with the Microsoft Image Co or Management (ICM)
function. If the graphics software you are using is compatib e with ICM, you can disp ay a co or image on
your monitor and match it with the same qua ity one on another device, such as a scanner or a printer.
For more information about the Microsoft ICM, see the Windows he p information.
Night light
B ue ight is the high-energy visib e ight in the ight spectrum. Excessive exposure to b ue ight might damage
your vision. Night ight is a feature that reduces the b ue ight emitted from computer screens. When the night
ight is on, your computer disp ay shows warmer co ors that he p you reduce eye strain and fa as eep. For
more information about ow b ue ight and instructions , go to https://www. enovo.com/us/en/b ue- ight/ .
Note: Se ected Lenovo computers are ow b ue- ight certified. These computers are tested with night ight
turned on and co or temperature set to the defau t va ue of 48.
To turn on or turn off the night ight:
• Type Night light in the search box. C ick Night light. Then, fo ow the on-screen instructions.
• Open the Start menu. C ick Settings ➙ System ➙ Display. Then, turn on or turn off the Night light
switch.
Set the power plan
For ENERGY STAR® comp iant computers, the fo owing power p an takes effect when your computers have
been id e for a specified duration:
• turn off the disp ay: After 10 minutes
• put the computer to s eep: After 25 minutes
To awaken the computer from S eep mode, press any key on your keyboard.
To reset the power p an to achieve the best ba ance between performance and power saving:
1. Go to Control Panel and view by arge icons or sma icons.
2. C ick Power Options, and then choose or customize a power p an of your preference.
Transfer data
Quick y share your fi es using the bui t-in B uetooth techno ogy among devices with the same features. You
a so can insta a disc or media card to transfer data.
Connect to a Bluetooth-ena led device (for selected models)
You can connect a types of B uetooth-enab ed devices to your computer, such as a keyboard, a mouse, a
smartphone, or speakers. To ensure that the connection is successfu , p ace the devices 10 meters (33 feet),
at most, from the computer.

1. C ick the action center icon in the Windows notification area. Enab e the B uetooth feature.
2. C ick Add Bluetooth or other device ➙ Bluetooth.
3. Se ect a B uetooth device, and then fo ow the on-screen instructions.

Chapter 4. Trou leshooting, diagnostics, and recovery
This chapter provides so utions to reso ve computer prob ems. Use the basic procedure as a starting point
for reso ving computer prob ems.
Basic procedure for resolving computer pro lems
Prerequisite
Before you start, read Generic Safety and Compliance Notices, and print the fo owing instructions.
1. Check that:
a. The cab es for a connected devices are connected correct y and secure y.
b. A components have been reassemb ed correct y.
c. A connected devices that require ac power are connected to proper y grounded and working
e ectrica out ets.
d. A connected devices are enab ed in UEFI BIOS.
2. Use an antivirus program (if any) to see if the computer has been infected by a virus. If the program
detects a virus, remove the virus.
3. See Chapter 4 “Troub eshooting, diagnostics, and recovery” on page 11 to reso ve the prob em you are
experiencing, run the diagnostic program, and recover your operating system.
4. If the prob em persists, contact Lenovo. See Chapter 6 “He p and support” on page 25.

Startup pro lems
Pro lem Solution
The computer does not start up when you
press the power button.
• Ensure that the power cord is correct y connected to the rear of the
computer and to a working e ectrica out et.
• If the computer has a secondary power switch on the rear of the
computer, ensure that it is switched on.
• The power indicator on the front of the computer is on.
• The computer vo tage matches the vo tage avai ab e at the
e ectrica out et for your country or region.
The operating system does not start up from
the correct storage drive or fai s to start up
• Ensure that a storage drive signa cab es and power cab es are
connected correct y.
• Ensure that the storage drive the computer starts up from is isted
as the first startup device in UEFI BIOS.
• In rare cases, the storage drive with the operating system might get
corrupted or damaged. In such cases, you might need to rep ace
the storage drive.
• If the computer is insta ed with an Optane memory:
– Ensure that the Optane memory is not removed.
– Ensure that the Optane memory is not damaged. Check the
Optane memory using diagnostic too s.
The computer beeps mu tip e times before
the operating system starts up. Ensure that no keys are stuck.

Screen pro lems
Pro lem Solution
The screen goes b ank whi e the computer is
on.
• The computer vo tage matches the vo tage avai ab e at the
e ectrica out et for your country or region.
• Press a key to exit the screen saver.
• Press the power button to wake the computer from s eep or
hibernation mode.
• The brightness and contrast is set correct y.
• If the screen goes b ank when some programs start, insta the
device drivers for the programs. Refer to the documentation for the
affected program to check whether any device drivers are required.
The image appears to be f ickering.
• The screen might be affected by interference from nearby
equipment. Magnetic fie ds around other devices, such as
transformers, app iances, f uorescent ights, and other monitors,
might be causing the prob em. Move f uorescent desk ighting or
any equipment that produces magnetic fie ds farther away from the
screen. If the prob em persists, turn off the computer. Then, adjust
the p acement of the computer and other devices so that they are
at east 305 mm (12 inches) apart. Turn on the computer.
• Reset the refresh rate.

2. C ick Display settings. On the Display tab, c ick Advanced
display settings ➙ Display adapter properties for Display 1.
3. C ick the Monitor tab, and then reset the refresh rate to be the
highest and noninter aced.
The image is disco ored.
• The screen might be affected by interference from nearby
equipment. Move f uorescent desk ighting or any equipment that
produces magnetic fie ds farther away from the screen.
• Turn off the computer. Then, adjust the p acement of the computer
and other devices so that they are at east 305 mm (12 inches)
apart. Turn on the computer.

Audio pro lems
Pro lem Solution
The audio cannot be heard on the Windows®
operating system.
• If you are using powered externa speakers that have an On/Off
contro , ensure that:
– The On/Off contro is set to the On position.
– The speaker power cab e is connected to a proper y grounded,
functiona ac e ectrica out et.
• If your externa speakers have a vo ume contro , ensure that the
vo ume is not set too ow.
• C ick the vo ume icon in the Windows notification area on the
taskbar. Check the speaker and vo ume settings. Do not mute the
speaker or set the vo ume at a very ow eve .
• If your computer has a front audio pane , ensure that the vo ume is
not set too ow.
• Ensure that your externa speakers (and headphones, if used) are
connected to the correct audio connector on the computer. Most
speaker cab es are co or-coded to match the audio connector.
Note: When externa -speaker or headphone cab es are connected
to the audio connector, the interna speaker, if present, is disab ed.
In most cases, if an audio adapter is insta ed in one of the
expansion s ots, the audio function bui t into the system board is
disab ed. Therefore, you must use the audio connectors on the
audio adapter.
• Ensure that the program you are running is designed for use in the
Microsoft Windows operating system. If the program is designed to
run in DOS, the program does not use the Windows sound feature.
The program must be configured to use SoundB aster Pro or
SoundB aster emu ation.
• Ensure that the audio device drivers are correct y insta ed.
The sound does not come from the headset
or headphones.
Se ect the headset or headphones as the defau t audio output device
in advanced sound settings.
The sound comes from one of the externa
speakers.
• Ensure that the speaker cab e is inserted comp ete y into the
connector on the computer.
• Ensure that the cab e that connects the eft speaker to the right
speaker is secure y connected.
• Ensure that the ba ance settings are set correct y.
1. Right-c ick the vo ume icon in the Windows notification area
on the taskbar. Then, c ick Open Volume Mixer and se ect the
desired speaker.
2. C ick the speaker icon on top of the vo ume contro , and then
c ick the Levels tab.
