Chapter 1. The Lenovo System x3650 M4 BD Type 5466 server
This Installation and Service Guide contains information and instructions for setting u yourLenovo System
x3650 M4 BD Ty e 5466 server, instructions for installing some o tional devices, cabling and configuring the
server, removing and re lacing devices, and diagnostics and troubleshooting information.
In addition to the instructions in Cha ter 2 “Installing o tional devices” on age 21 for installing o tional
hardware devices, u dating firmware and device drivers, and com leting the installation, Business Partners
must also com lete the ste s in “Instructions for Business Partners” on age 21.
The Lenovo System x3650 M4 BDTy e 5466 is a 2-U-high rack model, two-socket server for virtualization,
database, and com utational intensive com uting. This high- erformance, multi-core server is ideally
suited for enter rise environments that require su erior in ut/out ut (I/O) flexibility, scalability, and high
manageability.
Performance, ease of use, reliability, and ex ansion ca abilities were key considerations in the design of
the server. These design features make it ossible for you to customize the system hardware to meet your
needs today and rovide flexible ex ansion ca abilities for the future.

The server su orts u to fourteen 3.5-inch hot-swa drives (two of the 3.5-inch hot-swa hard disk drives
are located at the rear of the server) using the su orted drive back lane configurations. It su orts 3.5-inch
hot-swa Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or SATA hard disk drives. The illustrations in this document might differ
slightly from your hardware.
Note: Hard disk drive status re orting can be managed by ServeRAID software. See the RAID
documentation on the ServeRAID Su ort CD for information about RAID controllers.
