Chapter 1. eet your Chromebook
Connectors and indicators
1. Speakers Enable you to experience high-quality sound.
2. Microphones Capture or record sound.
3. Front camera
Take pictures or record videos by tapping Camera from the app Laucher. The
indicator next to the camera is on hen the camera is in use.
If you use other apps that support photographing, video chatting, and video
conference, the camera starts automatically hen you enable the camera-
required feature from the app.
4. Po er button Press the po er button to turn on your Chromebook.The po er button also can
be used to put the Chromebook to sleep mode or ake it up.
5. Volume button Increase / decrease the volume.
6. Audio connector
• Connect headphones ith a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch) and 4-pole plug to listen to the
sound from the Chromebook.
• Connect a headset ith a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch) and 4-pole plug to listen to the
sound from the Chromebook or talk ith others.
Note: The audio connector does not support standalone external microphones.

7. Po er status indicator
This indicator sho s hether the ac po er is connected to the Chromebook and
the battery po er status of the Chromebook.
• Connected to ac po er:
– Green (battery po er more than 97%)
– Amber (battery po er bet een 5% and 97%)
– Red (battery po er less than 5%)
• Not connected to ac po er:
– Off
8. Po er connector / USB-C™
connector
• Charge your Chromebook.
• Charge USB-C compatible devices ith the output voltage and current of 5 V
and 2 A.
• Transfer data at USB 2.0 speed, up to 480 Mbps.
• Connect to an external display:
– USB-C to VGA: up to 1440 × 900 pixels, 60 Hz
– USB-C to DP: up to 1440 × 900 pixels, 60 Hz
• Connect to USB-C accessories to expand Chromebook functionality. To
purchase USB-C accessories, go to https:// .lenovo.com/accessories.
Note: When the battery po er is belo 10%, the connected USB-C accessories
might not ork correctly.

Charge your Chromebook
CAUTION:
All plugs must be firmly and securely inserted into receptacles.
For models with a 10 W ac power adapter:

Navigate your user interface
1. Search box and the app
Launcher
• Type the name of your device, app, or Web page in the search box.
• Tap any app sho n in the app Launcher to open the app quickly.
2. Launcher button Open the search box and the app Launcher.
3. Shelf Pin your frequently used apps or Web pages to the shelf for easy access.
4. System tray Manage net ork connections, updates, and settings. By default, net ork
connection status, battery status, and the time are displayed.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
1. Tap the net ork icon in the system tray. A list of available ireless net orks is displayed.
2. Select a net ork available for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Connect to a Bluetooth-enabled device
You can connect all types of Bluetooth-enabled devices to your Chromebook, such as a keyboard, a mouse,
a smartphone, or speakers. To ensure the connection is successful, place the devices 10 meters (33 feet), at
most, from the Chromebook.
1. Tap the Bluetooth icon in the system tray. A list of available Bluetooth devices is displayed.
2. Select a Bluetooth device, and then follo the on-screen instructions.
Your Bluetooth-enabled device and Chromebook ill automatically connect the next time if the t o devices
are in range of each other ith Bluetooth turned on. You can use Bluetooth for data transfer or remote
control and communication.

Change the display language
When starting your Chromebook for the first time, you are prompted to select the display language. This
setting can be changed if you need to use a different language.
1. Tap the setting icon in the system tray, and then select Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Languages section, tap next to the language that you ant to use, and then tap ove to the top.
Notes:
• If the language you ant to use is not sho n in the list, tap Add languages.
• You need to sign out and then sign in for the changes to take effect.
• Each signed-in user can set their o n display language.
Change input methods
You might need to add an input method to type text in a particular language and s itch bet een input
methods.
Add an input method
1. Tap the setting icon in the system tray, and then select Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Input method section, tap anage input methods, and then select input methods as you prefer.
Switch between input methods
1. Tap the setting icon in the system tray, and then select Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Input method section, tap the name of the input method to enable it.
Use multimedia
Use your Chromebook ith the built-in components (camera, speakers, and audio features) or connected
external devices (an external projector, monitor, and HDTV).
Use audio
To enhance your audio experience, connect speakers, headphones, or a headset ith a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch),
4-pole plug to the audio connector.
To play a local audio or video file:
1. Tap the Launcher button, and then tap to display the full app Launcher.
2. Tap Files.
3. Choose a local audio or video file, and then open it in the media player.
To adjust the speaker volume, tap the system tray, and then adjust the volume bar.
Connect to an external display
Connect your Chromebook to a projector or a monitor to give presentations or expand your orkspace.
To connect to an external display:
1. Connect the external display to the USB-C connector on your Chromebook through a compatible
adapter.

2. Connect the external display to an electrical outlet.
3. Turn on the external display.
Supported resolution
The follo ing table lists the supported maximum resolution of the external display.

To change display settings:
1. Tap the setting icon in the system tray, and then select Device ➙ Displays.
2. Follo the on-screen instructions to change the display settings as you prefer.
Set the power plan
For ENERGY STAR® compliant Chromebooks, the follo ing po er plan takes effect hen your
Chromebooks have been idle for a specified duration:

• Turn off the display: After seven minutes 30 seconds
• Put the Chromebook into sleep: After eight minutes 30 seconds
To reset the po er plan to achieve the best balance bet een performance and po er saving:
1. Tap the setting icon in the system tray, and then select Device ➙ Power.
2. Follo the on-screen instructions to change the settings as you prefer.
Shut down your Chromebook
When you finish orking ith your Chromebook, shut it do n to save po er.
• Tap in the system tray.
• Press the po er button.
Interact with your Chromebook
This section introduces various ays to interact ith your Chromebook.
Use the multi-touch screen
Your Chromebook display supports the multi-touch function, and you can navigate the screen ith simple
touch gestures.
Note: Some gestures might not be available depending on the app you use.

Tap once
Open an app or perform an action on an open app, such as Copy,
Save, and Delete, depending on the app.
Tap and hold
Open a shortcut menu.
Slide
Scroll through items, such as lists, pages, and photos.
Drag an item to the location you want

Open a shortcut menu.
Tips
• Turn off the Chromebook before cleaning the multi-touch screen.
• Use a dry, soft, and lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-touch screen. Do not apply solvents to the cloth.
• The multi-touch screen is a glass panel covered ith a plastic film. Do not apply pressure or place any
metallic object on the screen, hich might damage the touch panel or cause it to malfunction.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate objects for input on the screen.
• Regularly calibrate the accuracy of the finger input to avoid a discrepancy.

Depending on the model, your Chromebook might come ith a Lenovo 10e Chromebook Tablet Keyboard
Folio (referred to as keyboard folio). Attach the keyboard folio to your Chromebook so that you can transform
your Chromebook into a portable notebook computer.

Frequently asked questions
What do I do if my Chromebook
stops responding?
1. Press and hold the po er button until the Chromebook turns off. Then, restart
the Chromebook.
2. If step 1 does not ork:
• For models ith an emergency reset hole: Insert a straightened paper clip
into the emergency reset hole to cut off po er supply temporarily. Then,
restart the Chromebook ith ac po er connected.
• For models ithout an emergency reset hole:
– For models ith the removable battery, remove the removable battery
and disconnect all po er sources. Then, reconnect to ac po er and
restart the Chromebook.
– For models ith the built-in battery, disconnect all po er sources.
Press and hold the po er button for about seven seconds. Then,
reconnect to ac po er and restart the Chromebook.
What do I do if I spill liquid on the
Chromebook?
1. Carefully unplug the ac po er adapter and turn off the Chromebook
immediately. The more quickly you stop the current from passing through the
Chromebook the more likely you ill reduce damage from short circuits.
Attention: Although you might lose some data or ork by turning off the
Chromebook immediately, leaving the Chromebook on might make your
Chromebook unusable.
2. Do not try to drain out the liquid by turning over the Chromebook. If your
Chromebook has keyboard drainage holes on the bottom, the liquid ill be
drained out through the holes.
3. Wait until you are certain that all the liquid is dry before turning on your
Chromebook.
Ho do I disinfect my
Chromebook?
1. Squeeze out excess liquid from ipe or disinfecting cloth before using.
Recommended ipes are hydrogen peroxide ipes and alcohol based ipes.
Do not use ipes containing sodium hypochlorite (bleach).
2. Gently ipe the Chromebook thoroughly, being careful to ensure no liquid
drips into the Chromebook. Do not ipe on connector pins.
3. After disinfecting, follo the cleaning procedure from the ipe supplier to
minimize chemical buildup of disinfectant residue.
4. Al ays allo the Chromebook to completely dry prior to any use.

What are CRUs
Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) are parts that can be upgraded or replaced by the customer. Your
Chromebook contains the follo ing types of CRUs:
• Self-service CRUs: Refer to parts that can be installed or replaced easily by customer themselves or by
trained service technicians at an additional cost.

• Optional-service CRUs: Refer to parts that can be installed or replaced by customers ith a greater skill
level. Trained service technicians can also provide service to install or replace the parts under the type of
arranty designated for the customer’s machine.
If you intend on installing a CRU, Lenovo ill ship the CRU to you. CRU information and replacement
instructions are shipped ith your product and are available from Lenovo at any time upon request. You
might be required to return the defective part that is replaced by the CRU. When return is required: (1) return
instructions, a prepaid shipping label, and a container ill be included ith the replacement CRU; and (2) you
might be charged for the replacement CRU if Lenovo does not receive the defective CRU ithin thirty (30)
days of your receipt of the replacement CRU. For full details, see the Lenovo Limited Warranty
