The LX5550 by LG is enabled with speaker-independent voice recognition. This technology makes it
possible for any user to dial a number by speaking the name of a contact entered in the phone book or
by speaking the digits of a phone number. Voice command also provides quick and easy access to other
essential features and when coupled with speaker phone and driving mode, offers true hands-free usage
without additional equipment.
Activate Speaker Phone
1. From standby mode, press the OK Key, “Speaker Phone is set to On” will appear on the screen. To
deactivate, press the key again and “Speaker Phone is set to Off” will appear on the screen.
VOICE SETTINGS
Voice Commands
Allows you to select how voice recognition is activated.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Voice Commands (1).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Flip open or Side key only and press OK.
Announce Alerts
Automated alert notifies you by voice of incoming calls and text messages by contact name or phone
number. It also provides notification of new emails.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Announce Alerts (2).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from On or Off and press OK.
Best Match
After you say a name or number, your phone displays the recognition results that best matches the one
you said and asks you to confirm. You may select the number of results that you want your phone to
display.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Best Match (3).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from 1 Result or 4 Results and press OK.
Train Commands
An optional personalization feature that helps train your phone to recognize the way you pronounce
commands.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Train Commands (4).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select Training On and press OK.
4. Follow the screen prompts by clearly speaking the series of words shown on the screen. A percentage
bar will show your progress as the training of each word is successfully spoken.
Train Digits
An optional personalization feature that helps train your phone to recognize the way you pronounce
numbers.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Settings (4).
2. Select Train Digits (5).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select Training On and press OK.
4. Follow the screen prompts by clearly speaking the series of numbers shown on the screen into
the phone. A percentage bar will show your progress as the training of each number series is
successfully spoken.

VOICE MENU FUNCTIONS
Start Commands
Allows you to use your voice to activate certain features of your phone.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Start Commands (1).
2. You will be asked to “Please Say a Command”. Clearly speak a command from the list: Contacts, Digit
Dial, Redial, Voice Mail, Driving, Schedule or Time.
Contacts: a phone call is made by saying the name of a contact saved in your phone book. In this
function only the default number will be dialed.
Digit Dial: a phone call is made by saying a telephone number of 4, 7, 10 or 11 digits.
Redial: calls the most recently-dialed number again.
Voice Mail: connects to *1 voice mail.
Driving: activates Voice Command features and speaker phone for hands-free operation.
Schedule: reads out the events that you have scheduled for the current day and enables you to add
new events.
Time: announces the time and displays it on the phone.
Note: For voice recognition, keep surrounding area quiet and speak clearly.
Note: Pronounce phone numbers digit by digit. Do not say "1-800" as "one eight hundred." Instead, say
"One, eight, zero, zero."
Activate Driving Mode
Allows you to switch hands-free calling on and off during driving without the need for a car kit.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Driving Mode (5).
2. Use the Navigation Key to select from Activate or Deactivate and press OK.
Shortcut: You may immediately activate or deactivate Driving Mode when the phone is closed by pressing
the Voice Command Activation Key on the side of the phone for three seconds.
Schedule an Event
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Scheduler (2).
2. Highlight the event date using your Navigation Key and press Left Soft Key for Add.
3. You may set the appropriate start and end times, content, voice memo, recurrence (if any), alarm and
ringer by scrolling to the corresponding field and entering the desired information and pressing OK.
4. Press Left Soft Key for Save.
Record a Voice Memo
Allows you to record up to four (4) minutes of voice memos.
1. From the Voice (4) menu, select Voice Memos (3).
2. Press Left Soft Key for New.
3. Start recording after the tone.
4. Press Left Soft Key for Done to stop recording. By default, your message will
be listed by date and time.

DOWNLOADING AXCESSSM CONTENT
The new LX5550 by LG can download up to 1.5 MB of content from Axcess, an enhanced wireless service
that allows you to download applications ranging from games, news, sports information, ringtones, stock
quotes, and more to your phone.
Downloading New Content from Axcess
1. From the Axcess Apps (5) menu, select Axcess Apps (1).
2. Once the Axcess Shop page is displayed, select the shopping cart icon. Choose from ringtones, games,
e-mail and more.
Shortcut: Press the Axcess Shop icon on the navigation key while in standby mode to quickly start Axcess.
MESSAGES
Send New
Allows you to send text messages and emails.
1. From the Messages (3) menu, select New Message (2).
2. Press Left Soft Key for Contacts to select pre-programmed recipient or select Address and enter an
email address or phone number and press OK.
3. Select Message and press OK.
4. Enter a custom text message (up to 160 characters), and press OK to complete the message.
5. Press Left Soft Key for Send.
CHANGING THE SOUND SETTINGS
Selecting a Built-in Ringer
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Sounds (1).
2. Select Ringers (1).
3. Select Caller ID (1), No Caller ID (2), or Restrict (3).
4. Choose from the list of available default ringers and press OK.
Note: The ringer list includes both downloaded and default ringtones. Downloaded ringtones will be
indicated by all lower case names while default ringers will have the first letter of their name capitalized.
CHANGING THE DISPLAY SETTINGS
Changing the Screen Display Image
Allows you to choose the kind of background to be displayed on the phone.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2) menu, select Screens (3).
2. Select Wallpaper (1), Power On (2), or Power Off (3).
3. Select from the list of nine default images, or press Right Soft Key for more images by selecting from
from Default (1), Graphics (2) or Objects (3).
4. Press Left Soft Key for Save.

Enable
Changing the Backlight Timer
Allows you to select the duration the backlight is on for the display.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2) menu, select Backlight (2).
2. Select either Main LCD (1) or Key Light Timer (2).
3. For Main LCD (1), select Timer (1), and select from 7 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, Always off,
or Always on and press OK.
4. For Key Light Timer (2), select from 7 seconds, 15 seconds, Always off or Always on and press OK.
Changing the Font Size and Color
Allows you to choose the size and color of the number and text input font.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Display (2) menu, select Fonts (9).
2. Select Calling Digits (1) or Text Editor (2).
3. Select Size (1) or Color (2).
4. Press the Navigation Key to select the size or color of the text and press OK.
CALL SETUP
Allows you to designate how the phone handles both incoming and outgoing calls.
Auto Retry
Allows you to set the length of time the phone waits before automatically redialing a number when the
attempted call fails.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Auto Retry (1).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Off, Every 10 seconds, Every 30 seconds, or Every 60
seconds and press OK.
Answer Call
Allows you to determine how to accept an incoming call.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Answer Call (2).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Flip Open, Any Key, or TALK Only and press OK.
Auto-Answer
Allows you to select the number of rings before the phone automatically answers a call.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select Auto-Answer (3).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Off, After 1 ring, After 3 rings, Ans. Machine Speaker on, or
Ans. Machine Speaker off and press OK.
Note: This feature is intended for use with hands-free devices but is an independent feature of the phone
and must be manually turned on or off.
One-Touch Dial
Allows you to initiate a speed dial call by pressing and holding the speed dial digit.
1. From the Settings (9) menu, select Call Setup (5).
2. Select One-Touch Dial (4).
3. Use the Navigation Key to select from Enable or Disable and press OK.

MY MEDIA FOLDER
Allows you to access and use a wide variety of graphics, sounds, and animations that are stored in your
phone. Select graphics for wallpaper, ringtones for incoming calls, and pictures, sounds and animations to
attach to messages.
1. From the My Media (7) menu, select Graphics (1), Music (2) or Objects (3).
2. Use the Navigation Key to highlight your selection and press OK.
Scheduling an Alarm
1. From the Tools (8) menu, select Alarm Clock (1).
2. Select from Alarm 1 (1), Alarm 2 (2), Alarm 3 (3), or Quick Alarm (4) and press OK.
3. You may set the appropriate time, recurrence (if any), and ringer by scrolling to the corresponding field
and entering the desired information.
4. Press Left Soft Key for Save.
CALL HISTORY
Call History automatically logs up to 30 numbers for each category of dialed, received, and missed calls.
It is continually updated as new numbers are added to the beginning of the list and the oldest entries are
removed from the bottom of the list.
Making a Call from Recent Calls
1. From the Recent Calls (2) menu, select Dialed Calls (1), Received Calls (2) or Missed Calls (3) and
press OK.
2. Select the desired entry and press TALK to connect.
Shortcut: To quickly access the list of recent calls, press TALK from the main menu.
PHONE BOOK
The internal phone book is capable of storing up to 499 contacts with up to 5 numbers and 3 email
addresses per contact.
Adding a New Phone Book Entry
1. From the Contacts (1) menu, select New Number (2).
2. Enter the telephone number for the entry and press OK.
3. Select a label from Home, Home 2,Office, Office2, Mobile, Mobile2, Pager, Fax, Fax2 or None and
press OK.
4. Enter a name for the entry and press OK.
5. Set up a speed dial for this contact if you wish or press Left Soft Key for Done.
One-Touch Speed Dialing
One-Touch Speed Dialing: Enables you to dial 9 of your most frequently used numbers using a single key
press. These numbers are stored in your phone book in memory locations 1 through 9. For locations 1
through 9, you can use one-touch dialing by pressing and holding the corresponding key to the memory
location to be dialed or press a digit, then press TALK.
Two-Touch Speed Dialing: Enables you to dial numbers in your phone book through two keys (for
locations 10 to 99).
1. From the Contacts (1) menu, select Speed Dials (5).
2. Select or enter a slot number and press OK.
3. Select a name from the list using the Navigation Key and press OK.
4. Select the desired number and press OK.
