This guide will show you how to clean and package the scanner for return to LI-COR. The included Quick Start guide will tell you
how to set up and use the scanner. Before you begin, please note the following.
Save all packing materials.
You will need the packing materials to send the scanner back to LI-COR.
Do not send SYBR® Safe stain back to
LI-COR.
Any leftover stain is yours to keep!

Cleaning and Packaging Instructions
Thank you for taking the opportunity to try out the D-DiGit Gel Scanner (model number 3500). Once you are finished testing,
there are four steps to return the test scanner to LI-COR.
1. Clean the scanner.
2. Lock the scanner.
3. Package the scanner.
4. Send the scanner back to LI-COR.
Specific instructions for each of these steps are located in this guide.

Care and Cleaning
Note: To avoid contamination, fresh Kimwipes should be used to clean each section of the scanner (as described below).
Note: Do not use any detergents, synthetic cleaning solutions, cleaning naptha, or other solvents to clean the scan surface.
1. Turn off the scanner and unplug the power cable from the AC outlet.
2. Wipe the top and sides
a. Moisten a large Kimwipe with warm water.
b. Thoroughly wipe down the top and sides of the scanner.
c. Wipe dry with a Kimwipe.

3. Wipe around the scansurface and under the handle
a. Moisten another large Kimwipe with warm water.
b. Thoroughly wipe down the plastic around the scan surface
and under the handle.
c. Wipe dry with a Kimwipe.

4. Wipe the scan surface withdeionized water
a. Moisten a large Kimwipe with deionized water and wipe
down the scan surface.
b. Clean the scan surface at least twice.
c. Wipe the glass dry with a Kimwipe.

Prepare Scanner for Shipment
Lock the D-DiGit Gel Scanner before shipping it.
1. Ensure the scanner is powered off, and the power cord is unplugged.
2. With the rear panel of the scanner facing you, tilt the scanner and locate the locking switch underneath the scanner.
3. Push the locking switch to the right until the "locked" icon is showing, as indicated in the graphic at right.
Note: Do not turn the scanner upside down while engaging the lock switch.

Packaging Procedure
Please package the scanner according to these instructions before shipping it back to LI-COR.
Important: Ensure the scanner is locked before continuing.
Important: Do not return the SYBR® Safe Stain to LI-COR.
1. Locate items to be shipped

1Viewing shield
1USB cable
1Large cardboard box
1Cardboard sheet bordered with foam
1Cardboard sheet without foam
2Foam pieces
1Large plastic bag for scanner
1Medium plastic bag for Viewing shield
3Small plastic bags (for cords)
Bags of desiccant
2. Wrap scanner in bag
Wrap the scanner and desiccant in the large plastic bag.

3. Place bottom foampiece in box
The bottom foam piece is the piece with semicircular cuts
on the outer edge. Place the bottom foam piece in the box in
the orientation shown.
4. Place the scanner in the box
Place the scanner on its side into the bottom foam piece
with the top of the scanner toward the back of the box. The
plastic feet on the bottom of the scanner should fit into
grooves in the bottom foam piece.
5. Place the top foam piece on the scanner
Place the remaining foam piece in the box on top of the
scanner. The grooves on the top of the foam piece should
be toward the back of the box.

6. Bag cords and place them in the box
Place the power cord(s) and USB cable in their bags, then
place the cord(s) and USB cable around the edges of the
box.
7. Bag the Viewing shield and place it in the box
a. Wrap the Viewing shield in its bag.
b. Place the viewing shield on top of the cardboard sheet that has foam around the edges. Ensure the posts on the Viewing
shield are placed inside the holes on the cardboard sheet.

a. Place the cardboard and Viewing shield in the box.
8. Add the last sheet of cardboard and close the box
a. Place the remaining sheet of cardboard in the box on top of the Viewing shield.
b. Shut the flaps.

c. Securely close the box.
d. Tape the lid of the box as it was taped when the box was received. Ensure the tape is secure, so the box will not come open
during shipment.
