1. Introduction
The adjustable Eleganza Smart Junior bed is designed for the hospitalisation of paediatric patients in
the age of 4 - 15 years with minimal height of 90cm, on standard hospital and long-term care wards.
The manufacturer does not exclude placing the bed in intensive care units, but this can be considered
only on the basis of the responsible choice of the medical care provider.
 The bed is manufactured in accordance with European directives 93/42/EEC and 2011/65/EU.
 The manufacturer words under the certificated quality management according to standards DIN
EN ISO 9001:2000, EN ISO 13485:2003, ISO 14001:2004.
The variant without setting the Trendelenburg position is not designed for use on wards
where the diagnosis of patients indicates the need for anti-shock treatment conditions
(Trendelenburg position). All staff using this bed must be informed about this fact.
This manual must be studied in detail before handling the bed. All actions and bed
operations must be carried out in accordance with the manual! Any other actions contrary
to use or for the purpose of the use of the bed are carried out at personal risk and the
manufacturer shall not be liable for any possible damage that may arise.
So it is important that the manual is accessible to the user throughout the service life of the bed!
WARNING:
 The manufacturer shall no be liable for any damage, injury, accidents or mishaps, which arise due
to careless, negligent or bad operation.
 Themanufacturer, dealer or trained person will provide bed operation training.
 Safety instructions for the operation of the bed and instructions regarding the operation of the bed
must be strictlyobserved.
 The manufacturer reserves the right to changes made in the contents of this instruction manual
which relates to the technical modifications of the product. It is for this reason that in some of its
details the contents of this manual may show differences from the current version of the product.

1.1 Method of Delivery
The bed is delivered either completely assembled or with ends. In case of the second method, these
parts have to be mounted on the bed before its use. Under the delivery note a check has to be
made on site to make sure the delivery is complete. Any faults or damage must be reported to the
carrier and supplier immediatelyin writing when accepting the order.
When transporting the bed, during its loading and unloading, the brakes of the bed must be unlocked
(see Chapter Central Braking System). The bed’s castors are designed for use in an indoor
environment and for travelling on even, smooth and clean floors (ceramic floor tiles, linoleum, cast
floors, etc.). The castors may be damaged when travelling with the bed on a rough, uneven and dirty
surface.
2. SafetyInstructions
Eleganza Smart Junior bed should be left in its lowest position when the patient is
unattended in order to reduce risk of injury due to falls!
Siderails of Eleganza Smart Junior should be located in the „up“ position to reduce
the risk of the patient accidentally slipping or rolling off the mattress!
Incompatible siderails and mattresses can cause an entrapment hazard!
Inappropriate handling of the power supply cord, e. g. by kinking, shearing or other
mechanical damages is hazardous!
When routing cables from other equipment in the Eleganza Smart Junior bed avoid
squeezing those between parts of the Eleganza Smart Junior bed!
Eleganza Smart Junior bed should not be used with bed hoists and bed lifts!
 The dimensions of the bed are designed for paediatric patient in the age of 4 –15 years with
minimal height of 90cm. It is not recommended to use the bed for younger or older patients.
 The instruction manual must be studied and all the operations carried out in compliance thereto
before using the bed
 When carrying out maintenance of and cleaning the bed in the space between the undercarriage
and the mattress platform, the adjustment function on the nurse control panel must be blocked so
no accident occurs due to the unwanted switching on of the foot switches and subsequent
movement of the undercarriage in a downward direction

 The bed may not be used if faults were detected which may damage the patient, staff or a third
person, the bed or the surrounding interior
 Before using the bed, the backup batterymust be charged first (if the bed is equipped with a
battery, it is alreadyconnected to the source when delivered); some bed adjustments cannot be
carried out without a connected battery
 Onlypersons mayoperate the bed who have the knowledge or practical experience that
guarantees problem-free handling of the bed
 The operating staff is obliged to acquaint the bedridden patient with the control functions that are
designed for the patient; this above all involves handling the hand control; the patient must also be
acquainted with the safety instructions (depending on the patient’s condition)
 The user (operator) is obliged, before use, to make sure the bed is functional and fault-free
 The bed may be used only on even and solid floors and under the conditions stated in paragraph
“Conditions of Use “
 The bed may not be overloaded even for a short time, however only if this is truly essential in
specific situations (such as during reanimation), the individual parts of the mattress platform must
be in the lowest position
 If a patient is on the bed, the brakes on the castors must be locked (except when travelling with the
bed) –if the bed brakes are unlocked, there is the danger that the patient, when leaving the bed or
leaning against it, may suffer an accident.
 During the transport of the bed with the patient, the side-rails must be always locked in upper
position.
 The mattress platform height must be adjusted to the height and condition of the patient
 No other persons may sit on the bed
 When handling the mobile parts of the bed, care must be taken that the patient, other person or
objects are not trapped
 If a lifting pole or infusion stand is positioned on the bed, greater attention must be paid when
travelling, lifting or tipping to the space around the lifting pole and infusion stand
 During the adjustment to Trendelenburg position, staff must give attention to the distance of lifting
pole (if it is used on the bed) and a wall, objects placed on the wall or other ambient objects. There
is a potential risk of collision and damage of ambient objects
 Before cleaning or maintaining the bed, a feeding cable must always be disconnected from the
mains.
 The bed may not be used in an environment where there is danger of an explosion, or the
presenceof inflammable anaesthetics
 When making repairs to the bed, onlyoriginal materials and components maybe used; when
replacing damaged parts with non-original or unsuitable materials, the manufacturer shall not be
liable for any damage that may arise
 Whenmaintaining and cleaning the bed in the space between the undercarriage and mattress
platform the adjustment functions must be blocked on the blocking panel so no accident occurs
due to the unwanted switching on of the foot switches and subsequent movement of the mattress
platform in a downward direction
 Only Linet mattresses and accessories may be used on the bed; if incompatible mattresses are
used this may result in the bad function of the siderails and endanger the safetyof patients
 When transporting the bed, the mains cable must be suspended on a plastic hook on the bed end
or other safe place to prevent the cable for being run over and damaged
 The mains cable must be led in such a manner so it does not get wound round mobile parts or
constricted between them; a serious danger of an electrical current accident may arise if the mains
cable is damaged
 The movable parts must be checked for wear and tear at least once a month.
 In case of power failure or insufficient electric tension it is possible to adjust safety positions of
mattress platform thanks to the backup battery (if the bed is equipped with backup battery) and
with the help of mechanical unblocking of backrest.


 Undercarriage of the bed is not intended for use as a storage place. In case of placing any objects
to undercarriage and to the space under the mattress platform, during the height adjustment there
can happen a damage of bed or these objects.
 Always set mattress platform to its lowest position and single parts of mattress platform to horizontal
position in case the patient is left on the bed without supervision of personnel and if his health and
mental status may indicate increase risk of falling out of the bed or entrapment.
 Personnel must consider overall adjustment of the bed and locking all of the positioning functions
in accordance to health and mental status of patient, especially if the patient is left without
supervision (even for short period of time) of the personnel.
 Manual positioning of parts of the bed which are designed for electronic positioning (e.g. back rest)
is forbidden. Otherwise there is a risk of damaging and dysfunction of the back rest actuator or
unprompted fall of the back rest.
3. Conditions of Use
The bed may not be used in an indoor environment where:
 The surrounding temperature ranges from + 10°C to + 40°C
 The relative humidityranges from 30% to 75%
 The atmospheric pressure ranges from 700 hPa to 1060 hPa
Other than the stated use must be consulted with the manufacturer!
The bed is designed for use in rooms for medical purposes. So the electrical installations in the room
must comply with the relevant technical norm determining the essential electrical installation
conditions. In spite of this, it is recommended disconnecting the bed from the mains in exceptional
cases (a storm).

Warning:
At the customer’s request, beds may be delivered with electrical parameters complying with the
standards for the country in question (different voltage, various types of mains plugs).
In view of the fact that the instrument is fed from the electricity mains, sensitive instruments
may be disturbed with the effect of an emerging electro-magnetic field. So the risk of
undesirable electro-magnetic effects is suppressed as much as possible, the bed is
manufactured in accordance with standard EN 60601-1-2. The bed must be used in
accordance with this manual in order to avoid these problems.

7. Bed Installation and Putting Into Operation
1. Remove the packaging from the bed and destroy the ecological packaging material.
2. If the beds are delivered in double packs (two beds one above the other), carefully remove the
top bed and lay it on the floor. At least two persons must carrythis out!
3. Check the delivery is complete according to the delivery note.
4. Carefully read the instruction manual and keep it for further use.
5. If the bed is delivered with dismantled ends (double pack of beds one above the other) proceed
with installation according to Chapter “Bed Ends “.
6. If the temperature during transport or storage of the bed differs from the operating temperature, the
bed must not be connected to the mains for at least 24 hours in order to adapt to indoor
temperatureconditions.
7. Connect the bed to the mains, including its connection to adjust the potential (see Sub-chapter
“Connecting to Adjust the Potentials“) and charge the backup battery(if it is part of the bed).
8. If the bed has a metal mattress platform –fix the short plastic covers on the back and calf rest to
cover the upper area of the column units.
9. Check the functionality:
 Adjust the individual mattress platform parts to the maximum position, tilt and height of the
mattress platform to themaximum andminimum position
 Check the flawless function of the central castor control, siderails,
 Check all the functions of the hand control, nurse control panel
7.1 Connecting the Bed to the Mains
The mains cable is a fixed component of the bed, so the bed is connected to the mains by inserting the
plug of the mains cable into the electrical voltage socket. The mains cable is equipped with a standard
transport hook, which allows the cable to be suspended either over the end, siderail or other appropriate
part of the bed during its transport.
7.2 Connecting to Adjust the Potentials
Due to the possible positioning instruments intravascularlyor
intracardiallyconnected to the patient, the bed is equipped with
so-called potential connection, which allows the adjustment of
potentials between the bed and these instruments.
The earth pin designed for this purpose is found under the
head end of the bed.

7.3 Charging the Backup Battery
The bed may be delivered with an attached backup battery. Before starting to use the bed the battery
must be charged to the sufficient capacity byconnecting the bed to the mains. The course of the
charging and capacity of the battery is indicated on the nurse control panel with the aid of a yellow
warninglight.
Table No.2 —Battery Condition Signalling
Absence or batteryfaulty condition (batteryis badlyconnected,
connection is interruption between the feeding source and battery, or the
batteryfuses are faulty); contact the manufacturer’s serviceorganisation
with this type of signalling.
Standard period for replacing the battery is approx. 2-3 years, the warning light on
the nurse control panel indicates the need to replace the battery. The battery must be
replaced after a maximum of 5 years regardless of the circumstances of use; there is
the risk that the batterywill be destroyed if it continues to be used.
Operation with the aid of an accumulator should only be applied if there is a power
cut or during the transport of a patient. Long-term disconnection of the bed from the
mains reduces the service life of the bed accumulator. The battery must be recharged
for approx. 12 hours when the batteryis completely flat –check the course of
recharging on the control panel with the aid of the yellow warning light.
If it has been detected that the batterybox, the control unit and cable boxes have
been thermally deformed, the first step is to disconnect the bed from the mains and
put the bed out of operation. The next procedure should be carried out in agreement
with the bed supplier, the service organisation respectively.

8. Bed Adjustment
The various controls stated in the next chapters can be used to electricallyadjust the bed. The choice
of controls corresponds to the bed equipment ordered bythe customer.
8.1 Nurse Control Panel (Supervisory Panel)
The nursing staff control panel is kept in the rack under the foot end. The control can be removed and
can be placed on the bed end or hand held when controlling the bed.

8.1.1 Activating “GO” Button
The activating “GO“ button is used to activate the keyboard not only of the central control panel, but
also other controls. Once pressed it begins an active period of 3 minutes during which by simply
further pressing the button of the selected function it is possible to adjust the position of the bed, or
block the individual functions respectively. The 3-minute period runs from the last press of the “GO”
button or button of the selected function. If the 3-minute limit expires without pressing any of the
control buttons, the “GO” button needs to be pressed again to reactivate the keyboard.
8.1.2 Standard Adjustment
All the accessible positions, i.e. the height and tilt of the mattress platform and the positions of the
individual parts, can be set with the aid of the central control panel using the following procedure:
1. activating the keyboard by pressing the activating “GO” button
2. subsequently simply pressing the selected function and holding it until the required position is
set
8.1.3 Setting the Programmed Positions
The central control panel is used to set 4 programmed positions, therapeutically important or safety
positions in the same way as for standard position adjustment as follows:
1. activating the keyboard by pressing the activating “GO” button
2. subsequently simply pressing the selected function and holding it until the required position
is set
The description and use of the individual programmed positions is stated hereunder.

8.1.3.1 Resuscitation Position –CPR
This safetyposition is designed for resuscitation. The individual parts of the mattress platform and the
mattress platform itself are set at the horizontally lowest position. The keys must be held until the
position is finallyset. This function cannot be blocked.
8.1.3.2 Trendelenburg Anti-shock Position
This safety position is used for a situation when anti-shock conditions must be secured for a person on
the bed. The individual parts of the mattress platform are at the basic lowest position and the mattress
platform is tilted to a 16°head downward angle. This function cannot be blocked.
The Trendelenburg position can be adjusted bypressing head-down tilt function, and than adjusting
back-restdown.
Warning: if the bed is not equipped with a backup battery, this function is not possible.
8.1.3.3 CardiacChair
This therapeutic position is appropriate for patients with heart disorders and respiratoryproblems. The
bed is tilted to a maximum feet downward angle, the back and thigh rests are in the highest position.
The button must be held until the position is set. This function can be blocked and reactivated with the
aid o flocks using the procedure described in the next chapter. The movements, which are blocked by
locks on the control panel, are not carried out.
When setting the programme positions, the individual parts and mattress platform move
simultaneously.
When setting the height or tilt of the mattress platform, there is a danger that persons may
be injured, or objects may be damaged with the columns moving down to the lowest
positions. So extra caution is required to avoid injuring persons when adjusting the position
of the bed. Increased attention is also required for the space around the infusion stand,
lifting pole and other accessories above the mattress platform, which moves with the
mattress platform height adjustment.
When adjusting the individual parts of the mattress platform, make sure that no objects are
trapped (electrical cables), or persons between the moving part and the frame of the
mattress platform or in the lever positioning mechanisms.
The effect of the uneven load and speed of both column units may result in a slight tilt once
the mattress platform height is adjusted. The head downward tilt may endanger the patient’s
health condition. It is for this reason that we recommend checking the tilt of the mattress
platform eventually aligning the position of both columns with the aid of buttons for setting
the tilt of the mattress platform (on the central control panel).

8.1.4 Locking the Individual Positions
The bed is equipped with a safety function disabling the setting of the individual positions by using
locks on the central control panel. The blocking is carried out in the same way as with standard
positioning:
1. activating the keyboard by pressing the activating “GO“ button
2. pressing the central locking button (position 3),
3. pressing the function button, which is to be deactivated (the warning light above the function in
question begins to flash)
4. pressing the central locking button again for confirming the deactivation of the function in question
(the warning light above the function in question lights up uninterruptedly, the others switch off)
The yellow warning lights for the individual functions lit up to signal the blocking of the positions. The
safety Trendelenburg (anti-shock) positioncannot be blocked.
8.1.5 Central STOP Button
The STOP button has been inbuilt into the central control panel so it is possible to immediately stop
and protect against any fault arising on the control switches and bed cables. After pressing the STOP
button, all the running electrical bed functions will stop and check that none of the control buttons has
been pressed. If any of the buttons is pressed, the command will not be carried out and the bed
remains in the quiet mode. This function allows the bed functions to be stopped if a fault occurs or
blocks the control buttons.
When pressing two random buttons simultaneously, the bed’s control system will register this as an
error and immediatelystop all the bed’s movements.

8.2 Hand Control
The hand control is used by the patient, the operator respectively, to adjust the individual parts of the
mattress platform of the bed. The same procedure applies for setting the positions on the hand control
as when adjusting the bed’s positions with the aid of the nurse control panel:
1. activating the keyboard bypressing the activating “GO” button
2. subsequentlysimply pressingthe buttonof theselectedfunctionand holdingit untilthe appropriateone
is set
1. a pair of buttons for adjusting the thigh rest
2. a pair of buttons for adjusting the backrest
3. activating the “GO“ button
4. a pair of buttons for setting the height of the mattress
platform
5. a pair of buttons for simultaneouslysetting the angles of
the thigh and backrest –auto-contour

We recommend place the handset on a side-rails (for that reason the handset is equipped with a hook
for hanging) or we recommend to place handset on a handset holder with flexible arm. (see page 37)
The operating staff must instruct the patient before he can use the control!
If the medical staff recognises that the patient’s condition is not adequate for the patient
being able to adjust the bed himself, it must be made impossible for the patient to adjust
the bed by either placing the hand control out of his reach or locking the positions in the

9 CPR Unblocking of Backrest
In urgent situations such as immediate
reanimation (CPR) the bed allows the
backrest to be quickly mechanically folded.
The CPR lever is used for this purpose
located under the bed frame at the head of
the patient. This method of folding the
backrest is used particularly when there is a
powercut.
By pulling the lever up the backrest is
released. It is recommended holding the
backrest with the other hand to check its
movemement.
With a single load, such as reanimation, the
backrest must be folded to the lowest
position.
Before CPR unblocking of the backrest the siderails must be placed in the lowest position.
However if the siderails are not in the lowest position for certain reasons, the hand of the
operator, when gripping the handrail, must not be placed between the siderail and the
backrest to avoid possible injury.
When checking the movement of the backrest, the backrest has to be held by the handrail
so the operator’s hand does not get injured.
10 Backrest Autoregression
When adjusting the backrest, it simultaneously pushes away in the direction of the movement. This
function - autoregression –reduces the pressure on the patient’s tissue in the sacral area thereby
acting against the formation of decubitus ulcers (bed or pressure sores). At the maximum angle of the
back and thigh rest the lumbar area is enlarged by 11 cm. Simultaneously it also partly prevents the
patient from sliding down when being positioned.
