For Steel and Aluminum Pedals
General Installation Notes:
Please read these instructions completely before beginning the
installation.
Before beginning the installation, disconnect the negative battery
cable and use wheel chocks to block the vehicle's wheels.
Make sure the engine, transmission, body and frame are properly
grounded. We recommend applying anti-seize lubricant to all
aluminum threads before final assembly.
Refer to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 for the component names.
IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION: The Lokar Throttle Pedal
is designed for use with a Lokar Throttle Cable. A stock style throttle cable
will not work. If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, installation
of a Lokar Kickdown Kit (if applicable) is strongly recommended. Lokar
Throttle Cables and Kickdown Kits are application-specific according to
the type of induction system and the transmission model.
Step 1: Remove any existing throttle pedal assembly and linkage
components.
Step 2: Determine your desired mounting location. The upper and lower
arms can be switched from left to right by flipping the upper arm
over (so that the shaft points to the left) and moving the lower arm
to the left side of the mounting base.
Step 3: Steel Throttle Pedal Remove the 1/4"-20 x 1/2" flat head bolt
from the right side of the pedal mounting base using a 5/32" Allen
wrench, and remove the lower arm. Fig. 3 Slide the mounting
base off of the upper arm and use the mounting base to mark the
locations of the two bolt holes to be drilled in your firewall. Use a
9/32" drill bit to drill the holes, and install the throttle pedal mounting
base using two 1/4" bolts and nuts (not included). Fig. 4
Step 3: Aluminum Throttle Pedal Loosen the #10-24 x 1/4" set screw in
the lower arm using a 3/32" Allen wrench, and remove the lower
arm. Fig. 5 Slide the mounting base off of the upper arm, and use
the mounting base to mark the locations of the two bolt holes to
be drilled in your firewall. Use a 7/32" drill bit to drill the holes, and
install the throttle pedal mounting base using two #10-32 bolts
(not included). Fig. 6
Step 4: Reassemble the upper and lower arms and mounting base with
the lower arm pointing down and the upper arm pointing up. On an
aluminum Throttle Pedal, make sure that the chamfered bushing in
the base is against the upper arm.
Step 5: Push the upper arm forward against the firewall. Mark the firewall in line
with the 3/16" hole on the end of the upper arm. Drill a 5/16" diameter
hole through the firewall for the throttle cable fitting to mount into. Fig. 7
NOTE: If the throttle pedal and mounting base need to be mounted
further away from the firewall, Lokar has Throttle Pedal Spacers
available. If you are using an aluminum Throttle Pedal, order part
number GPS-6014 for brushed or XGPS-6014 for black. If you
are using a steel Throttle Pedal, order part number GPS-6015 for
brushed or XGPS-6015 for black.

Step 6: Install the Lokar Throttle Cable following the instructions
supplied with the Throttle Cable. You may have to reposition
the upper pedal arm on the Throttle Pedal in order to get
the Throttle Cable adjusted correctly. Make sure there is no
binding in the throttle linkage and that the throttle returns to
the closed position when the Throttle Pedal is released.
NOTE: Once the Throttle Cable is installed, make sure that the
Throttle Pedal is completely floored when the throttle is wide
open. If the Throttle Pedal is not completely floored at wide
open throttle, you will need to either change the position of the
lower arm on the Throttle Pedal or install a pedal stop.
