Installation Instructions
1. Cut the tie wraps located between the two adel clamps on the strut housing. See
photo 1.

2. Remove the landing light feed wires from the bundle and cut them at the rear of the
existing lamp housing. Remove the chafe guard to allow splicing to the new power
harness. See photo 2.

3. Remove the existing landing light housings from the gear doors or from the main
gear struts by removing the two ¼” bolts that secure the housings to the attach
bracket. Detach existing power and ground wires from the landing light assembly.
It is not necessary to remove the attach brackets. See photos 3, 4 and 5.

4. The 35W LSM-SCD-006-3 or 60W LSM-SCD-019-1 Ballasts will be mounted to the
interior side of the 5522417-52 panel underneath the two clearance holes. Access
to this area is gained by removing the 512CZ (LH) and 612CZ (RH) access covers.
Begin by removing the six mounting screws on each access cover. See photo 6.

5. Tape the LSM-501-103-3 Mounting Guide to the vertical surface outboard of the
access cover opening. Be certain to center the template to provide clearance for
the ballast wire harness attachments. Transfer drill 3 ea .194 dia holes to the panel.
Remove the mounting guide. Attach each ballast using 3 each MS27039-0823
screws, 6 each DN212-202-18 hat bushings, 3 each MS21042-08 nuts, 3 each
NAS43DD3-48FC spacers, 6 each NAS549F10 insulating washers and 6 each
AN960-08 washers. Installation is typical for LH and RH of aircraft. See Figure 1.

6. Install the LSM-500-361-9 (LH) and -10 (RH) PAR 46 Assys on the existing
brackets using provided hardware. For gear door mounted lights, install the
outboard bolt first and then the upper bolt. Reversing this order will result in the
outboard bolt not having enough clearance. Do not substitute shorter length bolts
or the self-locking mechanism will be defeated. See photos 7 and 8.

7. Drill a 1.00 diameter hole forward of the existing hydraulic line holes as shown in
photo 9. Install MS35489-12 grommet in the new hole.

8. Guide the LSM-500-361-9 and -10 harness leads behind the strut, then up the strut
and through the new access hole. Attach the harness connector to the ballast
connector. Apply Dow Corning DC-4 (or other di-electric compound) to both
connectors prior to attaching. Install 11-12316 spiral wrap over the leads where
they penetrate the panel. See photo 9.
9. Attach the LSM-SCD-007-3 Power Harness to the ballast connector. Apply Dow
Corning DC-4 (or other di-electric compound) to both connectors prior to attaching.
Guide the harness leads through one of the two access holes in the panel. Install
11-12316 spiral wrap over the leads where they penetrate the panel. Trim existing
power and ground leads and harness leads to a length suitable for joining. Join red
lead to positive power and black lead to ground wire using M81824-1-2 connectors
and cover using M23053/5-106-0 shrink tubing. Leave extra cable at the top to
allow for twisting as the gear retracts as shown in photo 10. Installation is typical for
LH and RH of aircraft.

10. Secure all harnesses using MS3367-1-9 cable tie wraps per AC43-13.1B.
11. Re-install the access panels. Do a power on test of the lighting system. Aim the
lights per pilot preference. Due to the characteristics of HID lights, raising the light
beam path will result in better illumination.
12. Fill out FAA Form 337 and log book entry.

Maintenance Requirements –
Instructions for Continued Airworthiness
1. Maintenance Manual information for the Boom Beam is contained in LoPresti Speed
Merchants Installation Manual Number LSM-500-066 (this document), and should be
placed into the operators appropriate airplane Maintenance Manual.
2. Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) part numbers and other necessary part numbers
contained in the installation data package should be placed into the aircraft operators
appropriate airplane Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
3. Wiring diagram information contained in this data package should be placed into the
aircraft operators appropriate airplane Wiring Diagram Manuals.
4. Scheduled Maintenance Program tasks to be added to the aircraft operators
appropriate airplane maintenance program are as follows:
5. During an inspection interval of the lesser of 600 hours or one year, inspect the
mechanical and electrical integrity of the BOOM BEAM equipment and components.
All fasteners must be checked for tightness and all cable ties must be checked for
the security of the wiring harnesses. Loose or broken fasteners or cable ties must
be tightened or replaced.
The wiring harnesses must be checked for frayed or damaged insulation, broken
wires or connectors. Replace if damaged.
The bulb/starters, ballasts and reflectors must be checked for soundness in
mechanical and electrical conditions. Cracked or broken bulb/starter, ballast, or
reflector must be replaced.
Check for cracking in the reflector housing clamp flanges and for safety wire
integrity (if existing). Damaged clamp or broken safety wire must be replaced.

Electrical Load Analysis
The new Boom Beam installation replaces the existing lamp on each main gear door with a
ballast and lamp assembly; a total of two assemblies.
35W Ballast Kit
Each ballast assembly draws a maximum of 4.1 amperes at startup and then draws 1.65
amperes at steady state, after the lamps warm up.
60W Ballast Kit
Each ballast assembly draws a maximum of 5.9 amperes at startup and then draws 2.4
amperes at steady state, after the lamps warm up.
