POWER FILTER UNIT (PFU)
1 Overview
The Power Filter Unit (PFU) is build up as a plug-in and accommodates two inter-
nal filters for dual power distribution. The PFU is located within the shelf and is
part of it in order to fulfill EMC requirements.
In cases where no PFU is needed, the PFU must be bypassed over power lugs on
the backplane.
2 Features and Functions
The main features/functions of the PFU plug-in are:
■noise filtering of both DC power inputs in both directions
■protection of AnyMedia Access Systems against transient overvoltages
■supply of redundant powering
■voltage gap buffering up to 5 ms at nominal voltage
■surge protection up to 1KV
■limiting inrush current in accordance to ETS 132-2

3 Description
This data sheet describes the PFU (Comcode 108165200) plug-in.
The PFU connects the AnyMedia Access System with the power supply through
two power supply busses -48AE and -48BE.
Each supply bus is able to deliver completely input power to the system.
The distribution of the input power to the system occurs by the two power supply
busses so, that the half input power is delivered by the -48A line and the common
-48RTN line and the other half input power by the -48B line and the common -
48RTN line.
Gradual charging of the capacitors is provided and also the inrush current surge is
limited.
The PFU faceplate is shown in Figure 1.
4 Installation and Testing
There are no switches to set on this plug-in.
Danger: Arcing
Arcing on removing or inserting a live power supply plug or the
Power Filter Unit (PFU).
Arcing can cause burns to the hands and damage to the eyes.
Ensure that the DC circuit-breaker on the fuse panel is in the “OFF” position
before removing or inserting the power supply plug or Power Filter Unit.

5 Faceplate Features and Op-
tions
There are no LEDs and no buttons on the PFU faceplate. The faceplate for the PFU
plug-in is shown in Figure 1.
