The foundation
1.
The most important factor that guarantees a successful assembly, is a properly built foundation.
The base must be well flattened and levelled out. It is also good to make sure that the ground permeates water
well and that the frost heaving is prevented.

assemble and the doors and windows work better, when the bottom is even.

Checking the package and sorting the parts

The instructions include a list of the parts and diagram drawings for the walls A, B, C, D, E and F,

Check and sort the parts wall by wall with the help of the wall drawings and the part list. Leave 1-2 metres

Handle the logs of the front and back walls very carefully. The logs are 5,85 metres long and they have three
timber linings, so they will break easily if stressed parallel to the breast.
Begin the erection by putting 11 foundation beams on the bottom area of the cabin as shown in

Do not use too much force or the log will break. If the log does not go to its place, check that it is straight on the
tongue and groove of the lower log. The logs are planed / timber lined with adequate tolerance so that the
fitting does not require a lot of force.
Start building the log framework by selecting 6 base logs (semi-logs), . Build the
from these logs Notice that the outer bottom boards are placed about 10 mm inwards
from the side walls. There are two reasons for this: if it rains, the area between the bottom board and the first
wall log will stay dry. The outer bottom boards will also function as supporting edges for the floor boards.
When the lowest log framework is assembled, check that it is in right angle by measuring it from corner to
corner and attach the bottom logs to each other and to the foundation beams according to the with

Continue assembling the walls log by log following the diagrams. When you have fitted four logs on each
wall, install the doors with their frames. The door has a frame with the shape of the letter U, which is fitted

will fit in. If the door does not fit in easily, check if the logs and the battens of the frame are straight. Do not use
too much strength in order not to break the frame.
Continue assembling the log framework and finish the 7th log frame. Notice that the 8th logs are already
shorter because of the window frames. Follow the precise wall diagram, wallsA, B, C, D, E, F.
Continue assembling the log framework until you reach the 10th or 11th log and fit the windows to their places
the same way as the door making sure that they do not fall down. Please make sure to install the
windows right side up. If installed upside down, the window will fall when opened.
Continue assembling the walls according to the wall diagrams. Please note that the last logs at the front
and rear walls are longer.

When you have completed the walls, assemble the to their places. It is advisable to have 1 or 2
persons helping you and to make sure that the wind cannot fall down the gable triangles before
have been installed. Note, that the small window upstairs is installed before
mounting the triangle F6.

Lillevilla 100 has a sleeping loft on the two little rooms (the second floor). When the loft is installed, first the
supports of the floor carrier beams P2 are fastened, 4 supports, . The side wall supports are fastened
with 6 screws of 70 mm per support and the partition wall supports with 6 nails of 100 mm per support.
Install the five floor carrier beams P3+P4 to both rooms at regular intervals, . Fasten the both ends
with nails of 60 mm. Lay the floor boards to their places starting with the groove facing to the wall. Note! Use
the floor boards without grooves on the back side for this task. Fasten the boards carefully to each carrier beam
with nails. mark the nailing line of each carrier beam to the side wall before placing the floor boards.

Note:
Now assemble the supporting elements K1 and K2's. Push the K2's into their place on the wall timber and
against the gable. They can be fixed with one screw at the top of the gable. Then measure the middle point of
the entrance of the loft (the middle point between the gable parts) and put K1 on the wall at this center point. It
is also profiled so that it stands steady on the wall.
Check that it stands vertical and fix with a couple of
screws to the wall timber. Please ensure that K1 is
fixed to the middle point of the entrance. If not fixed to
the middle point, the ridge purlin will not fit into it.

Although Lillevilla-cabin is very stable, it is advisable to protect the structure against strong winds with so-
called storm bars (threaded rods).
We have drilled holes to the side wall logs for this purpose. (You can also fasten the base logs to the
ground or to the floor concrete with L-shaped clamb irons that are available in shops that sell building
materials.) The storm bars are placed to the holes in the side wall logs so that they are tightened from below
with a washer and a nut and also a washer and a nut are placed on the top of them so that the bars do not rise
above the level of the roof triangles.
This is probably the best and most stable solution that can be provided for
log cabins.
To ensure this safety to the full at all times, you should regularly tighten the nuts of the tension rods, gently and
without force. In the damp months the wood is likely to swell - then loosen the nuts a little. This allows the
walls to "readjust" without being hindered by the storm bars.

The functionality of the door / window
5.
Because of the shrinking and expanding of the wood, you can adjust the hinges of the door or the windows by
screwing them inwards or outwards (note, that the door has three hinges; remember to screw each hinge as
much so that they are aligned straight).
If the door / window is too large for the opening, screw the hinges inwards.
Our wood material is artificially dried and in normal conditions there should be no problems in installing the
door and the windows.
: it is advisable to check the function of the door and the windows in the spring and adjust them if
necessary.

Floor

The floor boards have been planed to the profile. They are tongued and grooved and they have chamfers and
two dry grooves below. Usually the boards are dull-edged from below. This is not a fault.
Begin installing the floor from the biggest room by placing the first board chamfers/dry grooves down and the
groove facing to the front wall. Mark the centres of the bottom boards to the base logs with a pencil for
example.After this put the boards to their places.After this install the floor boards to the other rooms.
Also here it must be noticed that the wood lives according to the humidity of the air. When the weather is dry
the boards fit easily to their places. In a moist weather the installation can be tight.
The floor area is 3.81 m deep, so the floor boards can shrink or expand parallel to the side walls 4-6 mm.
Therefore Note that the wood will shrink
very little lengthwise, only a tolerance of 2-5 mm is necessary
between the side walls and the floor.
When the floor boards are in their places, fasten them to the
bottom boards with nails following the marks you have made to
the front and back walls, . You can use an alignment wire
or board in order to find the centre of the bottom boards. Cut and
fasten the skirting boards.
it is advisable to leave a space of 1 mm between each floor board.

In a view of the "sinking" of the log walls, it is possible that the storm bars touch the ground or the foundations
and could damage the roof when pushed upwards. Then simply saw a piece off the end with a metal saw, so
that they do not rest on the ground any more.
A few words about wood. Wood is a living material, it shrinks in a humid weather and expands when the
weather is dry. Therefore we have left an extra space (a slot of 4-5 cm) above the door and the windows. This
space is necessary for the log walls to be able to expand and shrink according to the weather. NEVER NAIL
OR SCREW THE DOOR OR WINDOW FRAMES TO THE LOG WALL EXCEPT TO THE
LOWEST LOG.
This has to be considered already when the foundations are
prepared.

Roof

Before starting the installation of the roof, make sure that the walls are straight, the door and windows function
and the whole cabin is in the right angle.
The roof boards have been planed to a softline profile. The visible, rounded side is facing downwards (into the
cabin).
The backside of the board can be dull-edged (as the floor boards). As mentioned above, this is not a fault. This
side will be covered with asphalt felt
Begin fastening the roof boards with nails according to the so that the groove is facing outwards.
Make sure that the roof boards do not go over the middle of the ridge beam and fasten them with nails to the
side walls and all three purlins.
Again it is advisable to leave a space of 1 - 1,5 mm between the boards because the wood shrinks and expands
according to the weather
