INTRODUCTION
This manual describes the use and safety instructions of the LVD laser cutting machines (Orion
3015 Plus machines). These machines are used to cut flat metal sheets by using a Fanuc CO2
laser source.
Keep this manual in a safe and convenient place to serve as a guide for proper operation of
this machine. The information in this manual is current at time of issue. However, continued
engineering improvements may cause this information to change without notice. LVD/STRIPPIT
believes that the information in this manual is accurate, but makes no claim that it is complete
or that other actions may be required to perform certain operations safety.
Before starting to do work with a laser cutting machine it’s necessary that the operator(s) &
maintenance technician(s) has knowledge of the security instructions.
To avoid accidents, these instructions must be followed strictly.
First read the safety instructions in chapter 1 of this manual.
Also read & respect the safety remarks & guidelines for
programmers & operators given on the next pages in this
manual.

BASIC GUIDELINES FOR LASER CUTTING
In order to achieve good cutting quality, stable piercing and acceptable cutting speeds, it is
necessary to comply with the following requirements :
the machine should have been set up according to the prescriptions for installation.
the maintenance program should be observed.
the mirrors in the optical path, the cutting lens and the beam nozzle should be in good order.
the optical path, the cutting lens and the beam nozzle should be correctly aligned.
the sheets should be clean (no rusty or painted sheets) and flat.
the composition or the material to be cut should be known (if necessary, ask your supplier
for details);
the same material quality should be used as much as possible.
the experience and motivation of the operator are very important.
the cooperation between the programmer and the operator is very important as well.
the technology book should be used for optimizing the piercing, cutting and engraving
parameters.
laser cutting experience should be recorded and reproduced for internal distribution.

SPECIAL REMARKS ABOUT CLAMPS ON ORION & ORION PLUS MACHINES
Respect the following guidelines to avoid collisions between the clamps and the cutting head.
Z-height during rapid movement (G0) between parts
The Z-height during rapid movement between parts must be set high enough if parts are nested
between the clamps. This height is specified in the off line software (cadmanL). The value of
this height can be checked in the nc-program (see parameter #514 in main program). A
minimum value of 30 mm is recommended. Using a lower value can increase the risk of a
collision.
Position of clamps
The position of every clamp is specified in the off line software (cadmanL). Do not modify this
setting. The clamps cannot be moved on the machine. Changing the position of the clamps can
increase the risk of a collision.
Safety zone around clamps
The safety zone around the clamp is specified in the off line software (cadmanL). Do not modify
this setting. Reducing these values can increase the risk of a collision.
Other remarks
It’s recommended in the off line software (cadmanL) to put first the clamps on the sheet and
then nest the parts in the sheet (in nesting module).
Check that no cutting line is passing over the clamps when using skeleton cutting in off line
software.
Check that no cutting line is passing over the clamps when using linear cut (rest plate cutting)
in off line software.
Check that no parts are put on the clamps (especially when manually nesting of parts on sheet)
in off line software.
Always see that a (small) plate is hold with minimum 2 clamps.

SAFETY REMARKS FOR ASPIRATION UNIT (DONALDSON)
The operator must be instructed to check and clean the unit daily following Donaldson's
instructions.
The operator must also be instructed that the unit and ducting must be cleaned before cutting
a different material type from what was previously cut on the machine.
For example if mild steel was being cut and the next material to cut is aluminum, the unit must
be cleaned.
Following sticker is put on the (Donaldson) aspiration unit.

1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 Introduction
A thorough review and understanding of the contents of this manual is mandatory before the
user (either operator or service technician) attempts to operate or perform maintenance on the
system.
The laser has been designed and built in accordance with the recognized safety rules to
provide maximum user safety; however, any equipment using high operating voltages and
emitting intense radiation can cause damage and personal injury if improperly handled. The
safety precautions given in this chapter should be observed at all times when installing,
operating or working on or near the laser as described in this manual.
The machine builder accepts no responsibility whatsoever if changes are made to the
mechanical, electrical and/or pneumatic components and to the safety equipment that do not
comply with the safety regulations in force. Any consequence of modifications carried out will
be considered as user‟s responsibility.
KEEP THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY

Special warnings are given here and there in this chapter and other chapters of this users
manual. Your attention is also given to important information and special dangers by means of
the symbols shown below.
DANGER
This “DANGER” symbol warns of dangers that can cause death, such as
high voltage, dangerously high concentrations of gases that can lead to
unconsciousness and death, and the presence of a laser beam that can
cause serious injuries, blindness or death. LVD does everything in its
power to warn staff as much as possible about dangerous situations. If the
“DANGER” symbol is not depicted you MAY NOT deduce from this
however that there is no danger. Nothing is more effective for preventing
accidents than your own judgment, knowledge and experience.
WARNING
Whenever you see the “WARNING” symbol, you must be aware of
particular information in connection with the preventing damage to the
equipment, loss of time or other important points. LVD does everything
possible to ensure that you possess all the information that is needed to
optimize the work you do and the reliability of your LVD laser.
This symbol (“CAUTION”) appears whenever extra information is
provided that is intended to inform you of how to use your laser cutting
machine in a more appropriate way.
By normal us of the machine, the class is I concerning laser safety (EN 60
825). By class 1, no special eye protection is needed to protect the eyes
against negative influences of the CO2 laser beam.
By maintenance, reparation or disassembly of the provided safeties, the
machine and the space will come under laser class 4. On that moment,
adapted safety regulations have to be made. In these cases, safety glasses
with following specifications are necessary :
CE mark mentioned on the glasses;
Wave length 10600 nm or 10,6µm mentioned on the glasses;
Safety L5 (or higher) mentioned on the glasses;
Continue protection (D)
These glasses can also be ordered in LVD (see spare part list in
maintenance manual).
When there is a risk for laser radiation, you will find this symbol
displayed.
