1 About LVI
LVI Low Vision International AB was founded in 1978 and is one of the
world's leading manufacturers of equipment for persons with visual
impairments. Development of new products takes place in close
cooperation with users and professional staff within the low vision
rehabilitation industry. LVI is quality-certified in accordance with ISO 9001
and environmentally-certified in accordance with ISO 14001.
The information in this manual has been carefully checked and is

2 Introduction to MagniLink AIR
Thank you for choosing this camera system. Our aim is for you to be
satisfied with your choice of supplier and vision aid.
MagniLink AIR is a product line of magnifying camera systems designed
for people with visual impairment. The system is available with several
different cameras that can be combined in various ways. MagniLink AIR
Uno with a combined distance and reading camera. MagniLink AIR Duo
with a distance camera and a reading camera. MagniLink AIR Distance is
a distance camera that connects to a computer via a network cable. You
can also connect various LVI reading cameras to the system. The system
offers features such as the ability to pan and tilt the camera,
magnification settings, autofocus, several artificial colours, reading mode,
mirror mode and distance mode settings, amongst other things.
MagniLink AIR can stream video to a PC or a Mac.
The systems complies with all CE certification requirements for medical
devices in accordance with EU regulation 2017/745.

3 Information
3.1 Reuse, installation and maintenance
The device may only be technically overhauled and prepared by an
authorized company. Re-use may only be carried out after appropriate
inspection and cleaning / disinfection.
3.2 Cleaning
Before equipment cleaning and maintenance note:
• Disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning.
• Use a slightly damp (not wet) cloth and a cleaning / disinfectant
agent intended for monitors and computers.
• Do not allow any liquids to enter the device.
3.3 Safety information
• If the product is moved from the cold into a warm room,
condensation (moisture) can form inside the unit or on the camera
lens. To prevent problems with condensation, the apparatus should
be installed in the room at least 30 minutes prior to usage.
• Please follow the instructions in the document called “Assembly
and Installation”.
• Store cables and power supplies securely.
• LVI recommends having two persons present when mounting the
unit to a ceiling.
• Make sure the system is installed correctly.
• Do not pull or hang on the system after installation.
• Be aware of crushing.
• Do not cover the system.
• Never operate the product if it has been exposed to water or other
liquids. Damaged or wet product can cause electric shocks or fire.
• If the system requires cleaning, pull out all cables and use a slightly
damp (not wet) cloth. Use only water or a cleaning agent that is
intended for monitors and computers.

• Do not rely 100 per cent on the results of an OCR conversion; the
OCR engine can misinterpret the text. This is particularly important
to bear in mind when processing sensitive information such as a
medical prescription.
• Make no further adjustments, even if the product does not function
normally after following the functional descriptions. Pull out the
power cable and contact service staff or the product distributor.
Only use spare parts that are specified by LVI.
If in doubt, contact your supplier.
Warning
The product is supplied packed in a plastic bag. To avoid risk of
suffocation, keep the bag out of the reach of children and infants.

4 Unpacking
The system is supplied in a box with the following contents:
• Camera system
• User Guide
• USB memory stick with software
Make sure there is no external damage before opening the box. In the
event of damage, contact the courier to report the damage. Open the
box, take out the MagniLink AIR and remove the packaging parts. For
further information, please see the chapter on Installation.
4.1 Packaging
The packaging consists of the following packaging material (LVI
recommends that the packaging be kept in case you have to return the
system or you need to move it):
• Packing material (EPEL E)
• Box (corrugated cardboard)
• Polyethylene (LDPE4)
For sorting and collection of packaging material, please call the
packaging collection customer service department for information on the
rules that apply in your municipality.
Note that the product and its accessories must be recycled as electronic
waste. A worn-out battery is recycled as electronic waste.

5 Accessories
The controller (MLAIR-A013) can be used to control the system if you
don’t want to control the system from the computer.
The control unit (MLAIR-A012) is used if the system is not directly
connected to a computer. The control unit contains pre-installed

software and cameras are connected to the control box, which in turn is
connected to a screen. Includes a hand held control
MagniLink Framegrabber (MLAIR-A004). Used to transfer images from an
external video source (e.i. a projector/smartboard) to the software.
Roof bracket (MLAIR-A014). Used if the ceiling is not using 60x60cm
panels.
Text To Speech for PC (TTS-PC) or Mac (TTS-MAC).

The distance camera is connected using the included network cable. The
distance camera is available with various brackets.

7 MagniLink ChromeViewer
MagniLink ChromeViewer is a software used on a Chromebook to display
images from a MagniLink camera system. The software controls camera
properties such as magnification level, artificial colours and brightness.
When a license is obtained, it is possible to OCR process a text and have
it read by a speech synthesizer.
7.1 Minimum system requirements
• Chrome OS version 98
• 1 integrated USB 3.0 port.
• Intel Celeron, 2 GB RAM
7.2 Recommended system requirements
• Chrome OS version 98
• 1 integrated USB 3.0 type A-port
• Intel i5 processor
• 4 GB RAM
7.3 Installation of software
MagniLink ChromeViewer is available for download from the Chrome
Web Store. In case you cannot find the application via the search function
at the Chrome Web Store, there is a direct link on our website that will
take you directly to the installation page.
The link will open a new page with the Chrome Web Store and the
MagniLink ChromeViewer will be selected automatically.

Press Add to start the installation.
You will then see an information box that explains what the application is
able to do, click Add app to proceed.

The installation is now complete and you can start the application by
following the instructions and clicking the highlighted icon. It is also
possible, as described in the picture above, to press the App button to
start the application.
If you want access to MagniLink ChromeViewer in the App Launcher with
the option to attach the application to the start area, do as follows.
1. Launch MagniLink ChromeViewer.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Press the Copy URL button located under the About settings page to
copy the address to the app.

4. Launch the Google Chrome browser.
5. Select the address field and paste the copied address either by
pressing Ctrl + V or by right-clicking on the address field and selecting
Paste. Press Enter.
6. Under More at the top right, press More Tools and then Create
Shortcut.
7. Select Open as window, then press Create.

In App Launcher you can also attach MagniLink ChromeViewer to the
start area.
7.4 Licensing
Camera systems used with ChromeViewer can be licensed with OCR.
ChromeViewer will automatically detect if your camera system is licensed
for OCR.
It is also possible to activate an independent OCR license. Such
activation requires you to give ChromeViewer access to certain
information in your Google account, as the license key is applied to your
Google account upon activation. This means that you will not be
restricted to one computer but will be able to use any Chromebook with
your Google account and still use OCR in ChromeViewer.
To give ChromeViewer access to your Google account, press the Sign in
button under Settings and then follow the instructions. Upon successful
sign-in, an input box is displayed where the license key is entered, then
press OK. Upon successful activation, you will have direct access to OCR.
Note that OCR with ChromeViewer has the following limitations:
• An internet connection is required for licensing, as well as for
the use of OCR in MagniLink ChromeViewer.

7.5 Using the software
7.5.1 LVI camera
To launch a USB LVI camera you must either press the Connect button,
on the far left of the menu bar under the Camera tab, or the
L shortcut. A
dialog box containing a list of connected USB LVI cameras will then
appear. Select the camera you want to start and then select Connect.
7.5.2 Functions via menus
The application consists of a window with tabs and groups of buttons.
There is a tab for the application settings, a tab for handling the camera
and a tab for Notepad. Depending on whether you have obtained a
licence, there is also a tab for handling OCR-processed text.
7.5.2.1 Camera tab
The following tab varies in the range of buttons depending on the
number of camera systems connected.
