1Product Introduction
1.1 Overview
SM2300-28TC-AC switch employs the latest IEEE 802.3az standard, providing the
low power idle (LPI) mode application for the Ethernet Base-T transceiver (100Mb,
1GbE and10GbE) and the backplane physical layer. During the period with low
device utilization or idle period, disconnect the power connection. During the data
transmission period, recover the power connection and check the cable length and
supply the power by the length, which can greatly reduce the power consumption.
Maipu newly launched switch not only emphasize on the green, environmental, and
energy-saving, but also has excellent performance and operability. This series
switch adopts the new technologies such as RTCT, UDLD, Attack Prevention, and
MAC address learning restriction. In addition to the technology, the switch also
values the environment protection.

2Installation Preparations
2.1 Security Suggestions
To avoid device damage and bodily injury caused by accident, please follow the
following precautions:
Keep the switch free from damp and heat.
Ground the switch properly.
Please wear the ESD wrist strap during the installation and
maintenance and ensure the well contact of the ESD wrist strap and skin.
Do not install, move and disassemble the switch and module with
powering on to avoid human injury and device damage.
Do not plug/unplug the switch interface module and interface card
with powering on.
Please connect the interface cable of the switch correctly. Especially,
do not connect the telephone wire (including the ISDN wire) to the serial
port.
Pay attention to the laser safety. Do not expose the eyes to the light
emission port of the laser or the connected fiber connector directly.
Before cleaning the switch, pull out the plug of switch. Do not wipe it
with wet cloth and liquid.
Do not locate switch near water or humid place, and prevent water and
humidity entering switch shell.

Maipu Confidential & Proprietary Information Page 15 of 30
Do not locate switch on unstable box or desk. Falling may cause severe
damage to switch.
Keep the ventilation of the room and the switch.
Switch can work normally under proper power pressure. Please check
and ensure the operation pressure of switch is the same as the marked
pressure.
To avoid the danger of electricity shock, do not open the cabinet shell
when the switch is operating, even though the switch is power off.
2.2 Environment Requirement
The SM2300-28TC-AC switch must operate indoors. To ensure the normal operation
of the switch and extend the switch service life, following conditions must be
satisfied.
2.2.1 Temperature/Humidity
Requirement
To guarantee the service quality and life span of the SM2300-28TC-AC switch,
certain temperature and humidity must be maintained in the equipment room. If
the humidity is too high in a long term, the insulating performance of insulating
materials may be not good, even creepage and sometimes may cause the change of
mechanical performance and rustiness of metal parts. If the related humidity is too
low, the insulated gasket will be shrinkable which will cause the looseness of captive
screw. In the dry climate, static electricity may be caused which is harmful to the
circuit of the SM2300-28TC-AC switch. The higher the temperature is, the more
dangerous it is. It will greatly reduce the reliability of the switch, and long-term high
temperature will affect the life span of the switch. Overhigh temperature may
accelerate the aging of the insulating materials.

1. Measuring points of the working temperature and humidity of the
SM2300-28TC-AC switch in the equipment room mean the values measured
1.5m above the floor and 0.4 m from the front of the switch rack when there are
no protection boards.
2. Short-term operation condition means working no more than continuous 48h
and less than accumulated 15 days a year.
3. The critical working environment means the possible temperature and humidity
when the air conditioner in a general equipment room is faulty. It should be
recovered to normal condition within 5h.
2.2.2 Cleanliness Requirement
Dust is harmful to the operation of the SM2300-28TC-AC switch. The dust in the
room fell on the equipment may cause the electrostatics absorption, which may
result in poor contact of the metal connector. Especially when the humidity in the
room is relative low, it is more likely to cause electrostatic absorption. This may not
only affect the life span of the switch but also cause the communication failure.

Besides dust, the equipment room also has strict requirements for the salt, acid,

some metal parts. The detailed limit value for the harmful gas such as SO2, H2S, NH3,

2.2.3 ESD Requirement
SM2300-28TC-AC makes a lot of consideration in anti-static and multiple measures
are adopted. But when the static electricity exceeds a certain tolerance limit, it will
still damage the circuit even the whole switch.
In the network connected by the switch, electrostatic induction mainly comes from
two aspects: the outdoor high-voltage power lines, lightning and other external
electric field; indoor environment, flooring materials, the whole structure of the
internal system. In order to prevent electrostatic damage, we should do the
following:
Good equipment and floor ground connection;
Anti-dust indoor;
Maintain proper temperature and humidity conditions;
When touch the circuit board, user should wear ESD wrist strap and ESD
overalls;
Put the disassembled circuit board on an ESD work station with face up or in an
ESD bag;
When observing or transfer the disassembled circuit board, hold the outer edge
of the circuit board and avoid direct touching circuit components with hands.

2.2.4 Electromagnetic Requirement
This jamming sources, no matter from device or exterior application system, exert
influences on devices through capacitance coupling, inductance coupling,
electromagnetic wave radiation, common impedance (including grounding system)
and conducting wire (power wire, cable and output wire). Pay attention to the
following points:
Adopt effective anti power grid interference measures to the power supply
system.
It is better for the switch not to work with the grounding device or anti-lightning
device of the electrical device.
Keep away from the strong power radio transmission station, radar
transmission station, and high-frequency current device.
Adopt necessary electromagnetic shield mode.
2.2.5 Anti-lightning
SM2300-28TC-AC makes a lot of consideration in anti-lightning and necessary
measures are adopted. But when the lightning strength exceeds a certain tolerance,
it will still damage the switch to reach better anti-lightning effect.
The user is recommended to do the following:
Ensure the PGND of the chassis is well grounded using the protective ground
wire.
Ensure that the ground touch point of the AC power socket is well grounded.
The power arrester can be added in the front of the power input end, which can
greatly enhance the anti-lightning capability of the power.
To reach better anti-lightning effect, for the outdoor signal line connected by
the SM2300-28TC-AC interface switch module, the user can add the special
lightning arrester device in the front of the signal line input end.

2.3 Check Device and
Accessories
When the installation environment is confirmed to meet the requirement, then you
can open the package. Before the installation begins, you need to carefully check
whether the device and accessories in the package are complete according to the
packing list.
2.4 Tools and Devices for
Installation
The following lists the tools and devices required for device installation based on the
product condition:
1) Required tools:
Cross/Slotted screwdriver
Level, ruler, or tape
Gloves, ESD wrist strap
2) Required cable:
Cable in the device package
