Manhattan T1 Freeview Installation guide

FAQ
No HDMI input on your TV?
The Manhattan T1 and T2-R are designed for HD, which requires HDMI. However, if you have
an older TV that doesn’t have HDMI, these models can almost certainly be connected to your
TV using the Analogue AV Kit (not included). Your TV simply needs either of these inputs:
Manhattan Analogue AV Kit
Only £4.99 (inc VAT) + delivery. To order, call 020 8450 0005.
Included are a cable and adapter that will connect your Manhattan box to either of the inputs
above.
⚠Using a third party cable
You can purchase the 3.5mm 4-pole Minijack to RCA AV cable from third parties. However, as
there is no standard for the 4-pole Minijack, please be aware of the following:
The yellow, white and red cables may be mixed up when used with your Manhattan box.
Normally the yellow cable carries the video signal, the red cable carries the right audio

channel and the white cable carries the left audio channel. You might need to experiment
to find out which is which when using a third party cable.
Please check the length of the 3.5mm 4-pole Minijack plug (see below). The correct size
of the plug is 14mm. Connecting with an incorrect plug size, for example with the 17mm
type, will not work and may damage the AV socket of your Manhattan box.
Why does loop out (also known as loop through) not work in standby?
As explained on page 12 of the Get Started Guide, in order to meet EU energy regulations, it is
disabled in standby in order to conserve energy. It can be turned on in the System section of the
Settings menu. Press MENU and go to: Settings > System > Loop Out in Standby.
Why is the screen blank and I can't hear anything?
There are a few possible reasons.
Your T1 is not connected properly
Ensure your aerial is connected to your T1 and an HDMI or AV cable is connected from your
T1 to your TV.
When your T1 is turned on, the LED on the front is blue.
The correct input on your TV is not selected
Press the GUIDE button on your remote control. This displays the TV Guide, making it easy to
tell when you find the right input.
To change inputs, most TV remotes use a button labelled ‘AV’, ‘SOURCE’, ‘INPUT’, or with a
TV icon and arrow. Each press should cycle through your inputs. Check your TV's manual if
necessary.
Once you find the input displaying the TV Guide, press EXIT and check if live TV is working.
Try changing to BBC 1 by pressing '1' on the remote control. If the T1 says there is No Signal,
you may have a problem with your aerial. To retune:

Press MENU
Select 'Settings'
Select 'Tuning'
Select 'Smart Retune' and follow the on-screen instructions
An incompatible HDMI resolution has been selected
If you are using HDMI, the T1 may be set to an HDMI resolution that your TV does not support:
Normally the T1 is set to auto detect the HDMI resolution but this can fail with some
TVs.
The T1 can also be manually set to a resolution in the Picture & Sound section of the
Settings menu. This could cause an issue if you set a resolution (e.g. 1080p), then move
the T1 to another TV that doesn't support that resolution.
The T1 can automatically cycle through the available resolutions until you find one that works:
Turn the T1 on and wait 30 seconds.
Press MENU.
Press & Hold ‘0’ for 5 seconds.
The T1 will try each of the 3 HD resolutions for 15 seconds in this order: 1080p, 1080i
and 720p. Select ‘Confirm’ when you can see the picture.
Why is my Manhattan T1 not tuning all the channels? Why are some channels not working?
It is likely that the signal from your TV aerial is weak. Indoor aerials are particularly poor and
extremely sensitive to direction, meaning they will often tune some channels when placed in one
position and a whole different set when placed in another. If you have an outdoor aerial, it may
not be aligned correctly to receive signals from your local transmitter.
If you've moved your T1 to a new location (e.g. you've moved house), you should try retuning:
Press MENU
Select 'Settings'
Select 'Tuning'
Select 'Smart Retune' and follow the on-screen instructions
Why there is no sound on HD channels?
HD channels are broadcast with Dolby Digital audio. If you cannot hear any sound on HD
channels, it is likely that your TV does not support Dolby Digital but Surround Sound is selected
in the Picture & Sound section of the Settings menu. Change the 'Audio Output' setting to 'Stereo
PCM' to resolve the issue.

Why can I not control the sound on HD channels?
HD channels are broadcast with Dolby Digital audio. The T1 detects when your TV or AV
receiver supports Dolby Digital and 'passes through' the audio unaltered as required by Dolby. If
you prefer to adjust the volume with the T1's remote, change the 'Audio Output' setting in the
Picture & Sound section of the Settings menu to 'Stereo PCM'. The T1 will the decode the Dolby
Digital audio and output stereo audio instead.
How do I reset my PIN? I've lost/forgotten it.
Your PIN can be reset using the master PIN. In order to protect minors, we don't publish the
master PIN, so please contact us and we will give it to you.
Once you have the master PIN, go to the PIN section of the Settings menu and choose the
'Change PIN' option. When it asks for your PIN, enter the Master PIN and then follow the
instructions to create a new one.
Why does my Manhattan T1 switch off by itself?
The T1 has a power-saving feature called 'Auto Standby' that takes place after three hours when
no buttons have been pressed on the remote control or front panel. The duration can be changed
or Auto Standby can be turned off altogether by pressing MENU and going to: Settings > System
> Auto Standby
How do I download and update/upgrade the software of my Manhattan T1?
The T1 will automatically check for an update each night and install one if it’s available. This
can be disabled by turning ‘Automatic Updates’ off in the System section of the Settings menu.
You can also manually check for an update by selecting ‘Check for Update Now’.
Please note that unless the update is considered critical, it will only be released over the internet
and not broadcast over the air, so we recommend keeping your T1 connected to your internet
router by Ethernet cable. If you can’t connect your T1 to your router using an Ethernet cable, the
update can be installed using USB instead.
USB Updates for the T1 can be found in the 'Software Updates' section above. Before
downloading, please check the software version displayed in the Information menu of your T1 to
determine if it is up to date. To do so, press MENU, select 'Help' and then 'Information'. Updates
are provided in a 'zip' file that contains the main upgrade file, a PDF with updating instructions
and another one with release notes about the update.
To 'unzip' the file and extract the contents using Windows, right click on the file and choose the
option to 'Extract All'. On a Mac, simply double click the file. You may find it more convenient
to do this after copying the zip file to your Desktop.
After extracting the files, follow the updating instructions in the included PDF.

Why don't the USB sticks I try to upgrade with work?
There are three possible issues:
1. The USB stick is not compatible with the receiver.
2. The USB device is not formatted using the FAT32 filesystem.
3. The USB device does not contain the correct upgrade file.
If you're having difficulties, contact us and we will send you a USB pre-loaded with the software
via normal post.
Can I use the connect an external hard drive to the Manhattan T1 by USB and record or play
video files?
The USB connection is for software updates only.
Why can I not operate my Manhattan T1 with my TV remote or other universal remote
control?
Your manufacturer may not have programmed the remote control with the ability to control the
T1. Universal Electronics have programmed their Universal Remote to control the T1 using the
code SAT 3735.
