General information
This service manual contains information about how to
service Exterior Inground 400 LED.
Safety instructions
Before you carry out service work, read this document.
Installation and service work must comply with local
regulations and accepted codes of good practice.
Observe the safety instructions in the user manual for
the product.
Before you mount the product in the sleeve, make sure
that you have performed a vacuum test. Also, make
sure that you have tested all functions of the product.
Tools
Make sure that the tools below are available before you
start working on the product.
• TX10 screwdriver.
• TX25 screwdriver.
• Suction cup.
• Inground lifting tool. Can be ordered at
my.martin.com.
• Torque driver, 0-10 Nm
• ESD mat and wristband.

Take the necessary precautions
to prevent static electricity from
damaging the product during
modication or repair.

Product information
Before you start servicing the product, do the following:
• Disconnect the xture from power and DMX.
• Make sure that all necessary tools and spare
parts are available before you open the xture.
• Only perform this task in dry conditions.

Spare parts
For an overview of the spare parts and spare part
numbers of Exterior Inground 400 LED, refer to
martin.com.
1. Login with your user login details.
2. Search for “Exterior Inground 400 LED”.
3. Clik “Partnder: Layered” (1).
You will need the following spare parts:
• The parts that are to be replaced.
• An anti-humidity bag (P/N 37220000). 1

Troubleshooting
Status indicator
A status LED (1) is situated close to the edge of the
main LED array under the top glass. To see the status
LED, look directly down through the top glass from
close to the xture.
The LED gives the following information about the
xture status:
LED signal Fixture status
LED ashes. No valid DMX signal is present.
LED is constantly on. Fixture receives valid DMX
signal.
LED is green. Normal status.
LED is red. Fixture reports error. Check the
xture status via RDM*. See
gure 7.
LED is yellow. Fixture is in boot mode for
rmware update**.
* You can use RDM to send setup commands, check
the properties and view the status information of the
xture.
We recommend that you use a Martin™ M-PC to
congure the xture. Martin™ M-PC is an RDM
compatible DMX controller application that you can run
on a Windows PC. For more information about RDM,
see the user manual for the xture.
**You can update the rmware via a Martin™ Firmware
Uploader and a Martin™ USB DMX interface.

Repair and maintenance
Uninstalling the xture
1. Remove the three TX25 screws (1).
2. Lift the xture out of the sleeve and place it on the
ground next to the mounting hole.
3. Dismount the power and DMX connections from
the box inside the sleeve.
4. Use the suction cup to lift the xture out of the
housing. See gure 11.
5. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.
Removing the insert module
1. Remove the six TX25 screws (1) and remove the
top ring (2).

2. Remove the top glass.
It can be difcult to remove the top glass
assembly with the top sealing because the top
ring seal might be deform. In this case, use a
suction cup.

3. Remove the diffuser with holder, if included in the
conguration. See gure 16.
4. Remove the four TX10 screws (3) to remove the
glare shield, if included in the conguration.
5. Insert the lifting tool in the holes and lift out the
insert module.
NOTE! You can buy the lifting tool on
my.martin.com.
6. Before you can remove the insert module from the
housing, disconnect the two green connectors (4).
The connectors connect the mains power and
DMX.
7. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.

Replacing the housing
1. Follow the procedure in “Uninstalling the xture”
on page 7 and “Removing the insert module”
on page 7.
2. Store the insert module in a suitable and safe
place while you remove the old xture housing
and mount the new housing inside the sleeve.
3. Remove the old housing from the sleeve and
uninstall the cable from the connection box which
is placed below the housing.
4. Remove the mains power and DMX cables when
you remove the old housing.
NOTE! The old cables are molded to the housing
and must not be reused. New cables are included
in the new housing.
5. Reinstall the insert module.
6. Connect the cables from the new housing into
the connection box in the sleeve and fasten the
housing to the sleeve.
7. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.

Servicing the insert module
The insert module consists of some small modules and
assemblies. See gure 15.
The insert module is assembled in different
congurations which is why the construction can vary
accordingly.
Usually, the construction contains the assembly parts
as in gure 15. Some congurations do not include
diffusers and glare shield. The light engine can be one
of these models: 400, 410 or 420.
Diffuser.
Glare shield.
Light engine.
Service module.
This assembly contains the frame, main PCBA, mains
lter and fan.

Diffuser
Currently there are six types of diffusers available.
Before replacing a diffuser, make sure that you have
the correct one.
Glare shield
There are two types of glare shields available.
Depending on the conguration of the light engine, you
can choose between 22 holes and 56 holes.

2. Remove the four TX25 screws (3) that fasten the
light engine assembly to the service module.
3. Replace the light engine assembly
4. To reassemble all parts, follow the procedure in
reverse order.
5. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.
Service module
The service module is the same in all congurations
and it consists of the following:
• service bracket (metal frame)
• SMPS 32V/48V, 200W complete
• mainboard inground with software
• PCBA, mains AC lter
• Fan, 120x120x25.

Light engine
The three types of light engines are delivered as
complete modules with heat sink, heat-transfer pad,
LED pixel PCB, lenses and lens holder.
The complete light engine is connected to the main
PCBA via four wires and it is fastened by four TX25
screws.
1. Remove the four electrical wires (1) and the ber
optic wire (2) for the service LED that connects
the light engine to the mainboard.

5. Remove the DC connector (5) from the SMPS.
6. Replace the SMPS.
7. To install the new SMPS, follow the procedure in
reverse order.
8. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.
SMPS replacement
1. Remove the four Pz screws (1) that fasten the fan
guard grill to the fan, if available.
2. Remove the fan.

3. Remove the four TX10 screws (2) and unplug the
three main wires (3).
4. Cut the cable tie (4) that holds the wires.

Replacing the AC lter
1. Unplug all wires (1) from the the AC lter.
2. Remove the four TX10 screws (2) that fasten the
AC lter to the service bracket.
3. To install the new AC lter, follow the procedure in
reverse order.
4. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.

Replacing the mainboard
1. Unplug all wires from the mainboard.
2. Remove the eight TX10 screws that fasten the
mainboard to the heat sink.
NOTE! Make sure to reuse the heat pad under the
mainboard.
3. Replace the mainboard.
4. To install the new mainboard, follow the procedure
in reverse order.
5. Before you close the xture, follow the instructions
in “Closing the xture” on page 15.

Closing the xture
Before you close the xture, install an anti-humidity
bag, tighten the top ring within 20 minutes and perform
a vacuum test.
Installing an anti-humidity bag
Always replace the anti-humidity bag with a new one
(P/N 37220000) before you close the xture.
NOTE! Do not remove the anti-humidity bag from the
sealed alumnium envelope before you are about to
fasten it to the xture as the anti-humidity bag will start
absorbing the humidity.
1. Remove the four screws (1) and the grid.
2. Place the anti-humidity bag (3).
3. Place the grid above the anti-humidity bag and
fasten the four screws.
Tightening the top ring
When you close the top glass after service access, use
a torque driver and respect the guidelines below. Do
not exceed the nal torque of 9 Nm, or you may distort
the top ring and damage the seal, invalidating the
product warranty.
1. Cross-tighten the top glass bolts in the top ring
gradually in small steps. Work around the top ring
in the sequence shown in gure 27
2. Tighten the bolts in small steps until you reach a
nal torque of 9 Nm.
NOTE! The top ring screws can loose tightening
when neighboring screws are tightened.
Therefore, when you seem to have reached the
nal torque, continue cross-tightening in the
sequence in gure 27 until all six screws are
stable at the nal torque.
Performing a vacuum test
To perform a vacuum test, follow the instructions in the
tech note “Performing a vacuum test”.

Maintenance
Read the user manual before performing service or
maintenance on the product.
Failure to respect service and maintenance schedules
may cause damage that is not covered by product
warranties.
Cleaning the product
Do not use concentrated alcohol solutions, abrasive
products or solvents to clean the front glass. If wiping
with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water
is not effective, dampen the cloth with distilled water
containing 20% isopropyl alcohol in solution.
Conditions
Procedures in the cells marked with red must be
carried out by certied Martin™ by Harman technicians
only. Otherwise, you may cause damage to the product
that is not covered by your product warranty.
Ambient temperature:
Maximum temperature: +45°C (+113°F)
Minimum temperature: -30°C (-22°F), power must be
maintained below 0°C (32°F).
Voltage and frequency: 100-277 V nominal, 50/60 Hz.
